It's also one of the reasons why I don't put anything on my car (the icthus, bumper stickers/magnets, etc), I don't want it to be seen by others as a proclaimation on my part that I have the moral and spiritual high ground and that they're pond scum. Besides, it could really turn off people from Christ if they saw me get pulled over or inadvertantly cutting someone off in traffic and think that such behavior applies to all Christians.

BTW, a carpenter, guy in his 30s with a beard who liked to drink with his friends - it's obvious that Jesus would drive a full sized pickup! ;)

Re: A Question For You…

Asking the hot chick several rows down from me for her name and number and if she's available on Friday night.

Re: “Christians Are the Worst Tippers Ever.”

I knew all too well about this stereotype as I've known several people who were in the restaurant biz and told me all about this. One of them also liked to contrast this with the fact that the men who stopped by after the gay bar down the street had closed for the evening, were among their best tippers and left a very generous tip for something as simple as coffee and pancakes.

By default, I give a 20% tip, even more if the service is better than I had expected it to be. I will, on occasion give a larger than expected tip just for fun, simply to surprise the heck out of the server and indulge my playful/mischievous streak by throwing a huge surprise someone's way. It's fun, and I will most definitely make an effort to try it the next time I'm eating anywhere after church on Sunday.

Also, who's the sadist who designed those tracts that you fold up so they look like $20 bills? Found one of those on the floor at a restaurant a few years ago and felt a wave of embarassment, humiliation, and anger. I'm sure the designer had the best of intentions, but there are so many better ways to do that than to disguise a tract as an actual $20 bill.

Re: 7 Reasons Why I Don’t Like Most Christians

Yes, seven times over. There must be times where Jesus has a hard time recognizing us as His followers.

Re: How Much is Too Much?

Absolutely. It's what I like about twitter as opposed to facebook or myspace, there's only so much room for something, so you'd better make it good, but then you don't have to tell everything about yourself either. The "less is more" approach is something I try to strive for in a lot of things.

Re: Are You Gonna Go My Way?

Yes. One of my all time favorite songs and vids. I recall Pastor Mike mentioning it in a sermon a year or two ago, wouldn't surprise me if he were to use it again.

Re: Are You Gonna Go My Way?

Nope. I was at CityBranch, as usual. You ought to come one of these Sundays. Pastor Richard once said it reminded him of Immersion but with the lights on.

Re: A Christian Responds to the Iowa Gay Marriage Ruling

Granted, it goes against my personal beliefs, but it's a civil marriage, they're not forcing the church to recognize it. Even then, the couple of gay people I know are aware that while I disagree with it, I still treat them as a person. Much like how a Jew or Muslim would respond to me eating a pulled pork sandwich, they may disagree with the action, but they still treat me as a person regardless. It's a shame that some of my fellow Christians cannot look beyond the sin and actually love the sinner.

Re: The Profit Motive: Evil or Good?

IMO, it's not a bad thing to want to be well off, nobody would have remembered the Good Samaritan if he wasn't loaded. One just needs to be sure that money doesn't take the place of God in their life.

Re: Are Reproducing Muslims the Enemy?

Funny how this video speaks of a declining birthrate in the US. I've seen a lot more expecting parents over the last year or two than I have ever seen. Some of my friends and associates have also noticed this as well. Anyone else notice this too?

I agree with what Michael mentioned earlier, many of the Muslim immigrants and refugees who are coming to Western nations aren't the fanatics we see and read about in the news, most of them came to the West to escape extremism and are nominally Muslim at best. While the video itself may have the best of intentions in mind (lovingly spreading the Gospel to those who don't know Christ), it comes off in the worst possible manner and serves only to demonize those who we should be loving just as much as we love our Christian brothers and sisters.

I hope the day comes when some in the church abandon the borderline conversion by the sword mentality they have toward evangelism and opt for a John 13:34-35 model instead. What a world this would be if Christians were known more for their love and respect for people than their politics or the things they're against.

Re: The Mark of True Intelligence

Knowing and communication of ideas to others is one aspect of intelligence, knowing what to do with those ideas and how best to put them use is also another aspect of intelligence which can easily get overlooked.
