Sounds like a great idea, but it could become a little hairy. Microsoft already hosts "on the road" tours and events, which I think would be a little better at throwing parties :)

I'd much rather have a solid music/video experience than a more full-featured PDA (which is essentially what the iTouch is). Most of the apps are pointless, and especially so with no cell reception. A Zune with a solid browser (not mind-blowing, but well-suited for its tasks) would blow Safari out of the water, provided it crashed less often. Also, I have no idea where people get the notion iTouch is good for games. It's mediocre at best. Zune HD is powered by a Tegra processor (YouTube it; you won't be disappointed), which looks to be amazing for games. There's already XNA for games, and even compact .Net framework on all of the Zunes already out. Most of the tech stuff for a store would seem to be in place; they only need to get the policies and marketing worked out.

I use Rhapsody and Napster for my music because the Zune Pass just doesn't have the artists or playlists (not to mention suggestion features) I want. I unDRM my music using FairUse4WM, and it plays fine on my Zune.

Steven: If it's your first, I'd recommend you go for the Zune4. It's got plenty of space, and it's the cheapest of the new guys. If you don't mind a little more heft, I'd definitely get a Zune30. They're the cheapest overall, and they have all the software features of the new units. They're scratch-proof and have a gorgeous 3" screen.

The real question comes down to three factors: memory size, physical size, and cost. Go for what you need, and don't overpay ;-)

Yeah, I got mine yesterday. On the box it said "contains 2", and I got a little excited, but it turns out it wasn't to be. The rest of the box space was taken up by those plastic air packets.

I was impressed at how fast it went! It literally took only a minute for each of my players to get updated, from download to install. Impressive!

This is similar to what they did with "Live at the BBQ" last year. They had a bunch of headline, big-name talents (MIMS comes immediately to mind and the unannounced LL Cool J), but also a number of more indie, low-level famous talent (Large Professor, the Clipse).

I went to Rock The Bells (which happened to be sponsored by Sansa) two weeks earlier, and though the talent was obviously more well-known very few of the artists seemed truly interested in performing.

I'm not sure if we really need an entire wiki for Zune. There's just not enough content or community involvement for it to be worth it. If you decide to go through with it, I'd be glad to help (I'm an admin at Wikipedia, and helped set up the YTMND wiki). E-mail me if you want to talk more about this.

I can't believe they're putting all these features on every single Zune. It just really shows that the investment I made two years ago was totally worth it.

I really hope we see more by way of XNA soon, though.
