in Acronyms are NOT Your Friend - A Podcast on Writing White Papers
Why don't we just write in acronymal style and never spell any of our words?
Acronym use is an ego trip. It's a way to appear mysterious and "knowledgeable" It's a shortcut for lazy writers.------Doug

Should I apologize for being so different? I have a computer bought for me by my brother along with a fairly small income. Call me retrotech. So new
technology strikes me as novel and out of reach. I have no desire to earn
money. My present income is quite sufficient. So,as my previous blog says,
I am not subject to being sucked in except by the occasional software and
the allure of Stumbleupon. Sorry folks.-------Doug

Your writing sucks. Please take time to proof read and don't foist your
poor sentence structure and misspelled words on me because I see right through your carelessness to your attitude which is really the cause that sucks. ---Doug Rosbury

sbspalding Everyone has a right to his opinion, and no one is forcing you to read.

That being said, I appreciate any opportunity to improve.

If you have any specific corrections you want to see made, I'd be happy to make them. Thanks for your passionate opinion.

in Top 10 GTA IV Cheats & Easter Eggs (And Pigeons!) on GadgetHeat
How do we learn? How are we influenced in the things we later engage in such as
crime and abuse toward women and the seeking after power? Where does it all start? Games are extremely influential in this picture. It is those things that we don't question such as our own attitudes that we act upon subconsciously that cause us to become anti social. Those who see the danger are a voice crying in the wilderness of denial watching while crime and terrorism plague society and while we as members of society clamor for solutions and ask why we feel increasingly unsafe even in our own homes. Everything we experience has its beginning somewhere, somehow and I suggest it is in those things we do not question that these beginnings are hidden. GAMES ARE NOT GAMES(!!!!!!)

You attract what happens to you. The power of attraction
is responsible for everything, no exceptions. This is a mechanism that continues unabated, never to stop. Your only
control over it is how you think. Belief is its instruction.

in How Do You Deal With Flakey Clients? on Writing White Papers
This is a classic situation. You can't change others but you can change your attitude toward them. Be tolerant and realize that they too are having problems. Be kind in the face of this difficulty. You're here to learn to rise above your own self and to not be affected by the problems of others. Why do I have to tell you this? You should know it already. When something is inevitable, Relax and don't get uppity over it. Do your job With patience and tolerance and compassion. Get on with it and stop complaining. Doug

in Do you need a white paper or a whitepaper? ASK MIKE on Writing White Papers
Please tell me what "WHITE PAPER" means. No one to date has come up with
an explanation. How can Susan Weiner say "I agree with white paper", When none of you people has found an explanation for "WHITE PAPER"?
This kind of discussion violates my sense of logic. We're all talking about
"WHITE PAPER" and no one actually knows what it means. HOW DUMB (!!!)
How can you say, "I agree with"WHITE PAPER" when you have no idea what the meaning of it is? Is this an example of our intelligence? Hmmm(!!!)Doug

in How Do You Deal With Flakey Clients? on Writing White Papers
Mr. Grigg said it better than I could have, so why am I butting in? I'm not a
professional writer, but I guess I am an amateur psychologist. People become flaky due to a lack of education. So it falls to us who are with it to educate them or at least to give them an experience of rejection so that they might be encouraged to examine themselves. Is there a need for an educational
forum to help these people? How about a "white paper" to be required reading for prospective clients? This would be a prerequisite to client status. It seems to be needed in my opinion. Or a technique such as tough love intervention?
Pure honesty might wake them up. The field of writing needs to be revamped
because client and practitioner are a unit. Writers can't afford a superiority attitude if anyone can. The humility to realize the necessity to help prospective clients Would go a long way toward better working relations
between writer and client.------ Doug Rosbury

in How Do You Deal With Flakey Clients? on Writing White Papers
Here's a case in point (windows xp installation for those who have not do it)
Make sense? of course not and this is the kind of flakiness that I see all
throughout my web surfing. Why is it that people cannot proof read? I suggest it is because they don't recognize their errors as being errors. It is error prone mentality and an unwillingness to question oneself due to an
inflated sense of self importance that endows us with stupid logic.---Doug

When It's that particular client, arrange to take his call where you live and sleep. Why go out of your way when you know that it's likely he will only have another excuse? He obviously is not managing his time. when you have responsibilities to business and that means to other people, time management is crucial. Why do business with an irresponsible person? Be assertive with him about this. Perhaps a few words of counsel will make him wake up.
If you let him control the agenda, you're just being foolish.---Doug Rosbury
p.s. Can you see the possibility that he is intentionally controlling you?
I think you need to wake up!

in Who Inspires Your Writing? A Podcast on Writing White Papers
Who inspires my writing? No human writer, no human source. Within me, I have a sense of what is to be written. the words come and I monitor them.
Then I type them. I seem to understand the context and I anticipate the words to come. It seems to be a partnership of two realms or two person
alities. I suspect this is the case with many, or most writers. Some writing
may very well be cases of plagiarism which, in my opinion is simply theft.
But when I write, I certainly don't recognize what comes out as having been written before. Who inspires my writing? In a way It doesn't really
matter who inspires me because what really matters is the words themselves. The words themselves inspire my writing. They come if you
will as an answer to my prayer for something to say that is appropriate
to the need of the situation. but isn't it true that all prayers have an answer? Sincerely Doug Rosbury

in What Music Helps You Write? on Writing White Papers
When I write, I need quiet. Whatever Is to be written comes automatically,
however, I cannot write with the tv on or anything else. Sorry Mike. I seldom listen to music anyway. Quiet is my accompaniment. logic and wisdom are my
inspiration. I require that all "outer influences" be kept to a minimum. Writing,
for me, is an inner dialogue. Sincerely, Doug Rosbury

in Marketing Lessons from Apple on Writing White Papers
Good morning: This is your devils advocate, here to say how good it feels to not be sucked into the latest tech gadget. It is my pleasure to not be like everyone around me. The same goes for swooning for anything or anyone
in the entertainment field or the latest in automobiles or the latest in anything.
Power over me cannot be had by anyone pretending to enhance my life with
their newest gadget. It's not so much a matter of pride with me as it is a practical matter of knowing that I can't be easily sucked in and be controlled
by some electronic whizbang offering that I don't really need. There is a
philosophical reason for my attitude and also a practical reason. Do I want a particular thing or do I need it? We can Make a list. What are needs and what are wants? I don't need what everyone else slavishly imagines that they need, when in fact, they are being slaves to the latest gadget or
entertainer or anything else or anyone else with the charisma to
enslave them and take away their freedom to decide for themselves
the difference between wants and needs. I will not be such a slave to
marketing trends or to anyone who the majority of people are swooning for. Doug Rosbury

in Acronyms are NOT Your Friend - A Podcast on Writing White Papers
Michael, acronyms are a time saver and mostly a space saver for the writer,
however they are used at the expense of simple communication. Also, I think
they are a spurious badge of self importance. (look how important i am because i know all the acronyms). It is because of these elements of dumb
writing that I agree with you that acronyms should only be used if they are
accompanied by an expanded explanation or not used at all.
By the way, michael, you would benefit greatly from some speech training
in my opinion. You drop your g's for one thing which is a common error in
mass communications these days. For anyone like you who presents verbal
thoughts to his public, your public image suffers with sloppy speech.
A word of wisdom to one trying to improve his image should be sufficient.

in Flushing Opportunity By Asking Too Much on Writing White Papers
I for one do not feel comfortable when someone asks me a lot of questions.
It seems that they don't trust me. But more than that, i'm a private person.
Can't people be kinder and not ask questions unless they have a more practical reason than to ask questions merely out of curiosity? What ever happened to "a right to know"? There's an attitude by people to act like they are in authority over you simply because you come to them for some kind of service. Microsoft is a prime example. Authority is too often assumed and
imposed. No one has authority except the individual person to exert when
he or she has to defend their rights. Authority is earned through performance.
The asking of questions should be preceded by permission received.
kindness and diplomacy are the prerequisites of a positive relationship.

"White" paper (?) White usually indicates purity. Is a white paper free of impurities? And how can a written piece be free of errors when, in fact,
due to the fact that we are so relatively ignorant, everything we do is not error free. Please explain what(you) mean by "white paper".------Doug

in What do you make of this? on Writing White Papers
Mike, Don't feed into stupidity. the more attention you give it, the more it will downgrade the whole process. You might tell this person how their demand has affected you and that under the circumstances, such a poorly composed request does not meet the requirements of your business model and then just write them off. No amount of money is worth prostituting yourself to the ignorance of uneducated people. Standards of diplomacy should be upheld.
How much do you value your self esteem?

in 8 Random Things About Me on Writing White Papers
now is not a good time for me to write something. I'm in the midst of a huge disappointment with a person with whom I have had an ongoing relationship
complicated by medication prescribed by my doctor that causes me to have psychotic and confused episodes complicating my relationship due to the fact that she acts in a psychotic way, just when I need her to be clear minded and helpful causing me to retreat to my own apartment. I am not a happy person having suffered depression and apathy my whole life long. I need friends who wont be"offended" and "critical" and walk away from me . This applies mostly to women but men also act like i'm some kind of poison. I'm very much isolated and alone but talented and skilled at counseling. Right now, I,m unhappy and confused. I have never had a normal life and everything for me is good regarding my luck with all the
physical attributes of life but for matters of the heart, life sucks. Doug

in Writers! Looking for More Time to Write? on Writing White Papers
How much do we relegate faith to a religious belief and as we put it behind that partition it becomes unavailable to be our main tool for making things happen. There is this "separation of church and state" idea that creates the impression that faith doesn't belong in the flow of daily life and is only an
article of religious belief, when in fact, it is faith that makes all things possible.
How, for instance could you walk across the street with all of the implications of such an act if it were not also an act of faith? Faith is free to us for any purpose under the sun. ANY PURPOSE (!!!) using our faith, we can circumvent
our ego based limitations such as worrying about having enough time in the day for writing. With faith we can transcend all limitations because our faith is a direct connection with God and it is God who takes over if and when we are willing to set aside our ego based limitations.----So-------
A word to the wise is sufficient.------Doug Rosbury

in Writers! Looking for More Time to Write? on Writing White Papers
To whom it may concern, We have limited opportunities within each day to
act on chosen projects. This prospect should be viewed with a smile for it is our challenge to fit into that day as though we have but one chance to get a message out. However, there is one obstacle we must master. That obstacle is our own greed for recognition. Indeed, if we put ourselves first, we open the door for our own personality flaws to intervene and cause disruption in
our plans. If we put the welfare, the informing of others first, then we can relax and allow the spirit to perform its magical feat of fitting us in to the
available time. This is the truth of it because it is the human ego that causes our concern, our anxiety but it is our faith that makes great things probable. Faith ignores limitations And what gets done turns out to be our
best contribution. Oh ye of little faith, go in peace and sin no more.
Let your spirit do its magic ------Doug Rosbury
