They do have a non-exclusive arrangement, however when another company that has their own network is managing some of the best CJ affiliates there is a serious conflict of interest and I'm not surprised at all at this response from CJ. Whats to prevent Pepperjam staff from pilfering all the best CJ affiliates and merchants since they have access to this information.

Re: Thank you Jason Calacanis

Don't blame the affiliates for getting pages into the index, even republished content can rank well or are article directories a bad thing too? If the big 3 search engines haven't become savvy enough to rank good content take it up with them. This concept of affiliates polluting the search results was relevant like 3-5 years ago, but the search results have gotten much cleaner in the last couple years. Good affiliates with good sites and good content will always prevail and the "spammy" sites will fade. I don't think he pointed out anything that wasn't the bleeding obvious...just a couple years too late.

Re: Top rated Super Bowl commercials

Wow nice widget! I think Pepperjam would be more inclined to extract affiliates and encourage them to join their network. Merchants its not really an issue because of the non-exclusive agreement CJ has with merchants. Since CJ clearly has the best performing affiliate base in the world, I think this is the major issue here. I don't think CJ needs to make any statements, they have the right to tell their merchants to drop Pepperjam due to a major conflict of interest. Let those merchants just exclusively over to Pepperjam and they will lose their CJ performers.

Re: PepperJam Network vs CJ

CJ and Linkshare have the best name-brand merchants and thats what tends to convert well for affiliates. To include everyone influential in all of performance-based marketing would be a room of hundreds. The meeting seemed like more of a local chapter meeting in reality but nonetheless very needed that we have some organization or organizations to discuss and deal with issues relating to affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is now a world-wide phenomenon much bigger than any single forum or conference. Nobody owns, controls or represents the entire industry or even webmasters in general. In fact there are numerous excellent webmaster/seo/affiliate forums i.e. Digital Point, 5staraffiliates, Sitepoint, Affiliates4u and other great conferences like Adtech and Webmasterworld that heavily represent the industry. There are many influential people in affiliate marketing that would inevitably be "left out" of any small affiliate organization...I think most would be pleased an organization existed and support it. All in all, this was a great first step toward a formal organization and should be looked at only as that...it drew a lot of attention to the issue and hopefully can result in a great organization, maybe even multiple organizations if that’s what needs to happen...I would support it in any way possible.

Re: Buying Links: Good or Bad?

I like this guy Wil!
