The level only takes into account food costs, not cost of living, not transportation, not child care or any other important economic variables.

More accurate information would be the self-sufficiency measurement, which measures what it takes to be self sufficient without the aid of government programs. According to data for Colorado in 2008, a family with three children in Denver county would need to bring in at least $59,000:

http://www.cclponline.org/ccs/reports.php

Even if we do take the federal poverty level into account, its still estimated that 20 percent of Americans are under the level according to the federal government.

I think its important to note that the majority of jobs in Colorado are not the best paying ones.

Also, as far as

Re: Colorado’s top employers don’t always pay stellar wages

Well notachanceatall, as anyone who has been poor can tell you, the federal poverty level is not very accurate. As it states in the story the school is located in the Denver area but not part of the Denver Public School system.

Re: Pot Trial Ends In Settlement

To give you a quick answer: probably. Please feel free to critique. You're the reader, the most important part of this site.

According to the information I got from MESA, the school was opened after a number of other lower achieving schools were shut down in the district. Many of the students from those schools went to MESA, so I don't think it's just a case of the good students being there. The kids at the school do seem to be treated with respect. Class sizes are kept to a minimum and the school also holds community meetings where the students can vent and talk about what's going on with them. I don't know about a union for teachers though. I'll try to find out.

Re: The Union memo that wouldn’t die

I already have a copy that is linked above. I wonder how that will come into play? Few Latinos I know look favorably at the state Dems for that very reason.

Re: Colorado National Guard plans to rent 500+ hotel rooms for DNC

That's really interesting.
