If you think that's bad Aaron, I haven't seen 24 seasons 1-3. My wife got me all 3 seasons for Christmas this year and I just finished season 2. Yeah, I haven't slept much LOL Not too mention I'm sicker than a dog.

HeH.

Since I don't see a T-day post I'm using this one.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you and your family!

in Spam Issues (or why Akismet isn’t proving worth the money) on Technosailor
Well that explains the major delay in waiting for the "comment" window to appear.

Akismet is great! But, the spammers are changing their tactics in how they send spam and it's causing problems across the board.

Thanks Eric for the update. I have a friend of mine who tipped me off on Buffalo and I never heard about it in the MSM at all.

in Road Trip on Technosailor
Hey Aaron,

I hear that Buffalo is suffering with massive power outages. Outages, which surprisingly has not been mass reported in the MSM as they are too busy to focus on Texas flooding, or Iraq/Vietnam comparisons.

Bring a generator, and have a cup of hot cocoa for me?

Good luck!

in Urgent: Windows Vista Blogger Needed on Technosailor
Windows Vista is not for old PC's. There is a reason why modern Motherboards are capable of using 2GB of ram.

Also, Vista comes in two processor flavors. 32bit and 64bit. Do not use the 64bit unless you know you have a powerful enough processor to use it.

I've tried both versions, and I have to tell you that I would get the 32bit before the other one (simply because it bogs down when you don't have a processor with power) and there really isn't much difference in functionality.

That's not to say there isn't distinct differences, it's just a fancier form of XP, with a Mac OSX bend.

No Aaron, I'm not signing up to blog about it ;)

in Shopping for a New Guitar on Technosailor
I had a seagull acoustic that I absolutely loved.

I've also had a Jackson JJ series, and a Fender Mexi-Strat with Texas Special pickups.

While on vacation I ran into a husband and wife couple from Cali who play nothing but Taylor guitars and swear by them. However, after looking at the pricetags, I can't get them for the forseeable future.

Since I no longer own any of my former guitars (bad financial times caused me to sell them) I am looking for something inexpensive which won't break the bank, and will satisfy my craving to play again.

Good luck Aaron, I envy your search!

Aaron,

Great article, wish I coulda sat next to you at the Conf.

Not surprisingly I also agree with you about the "obliqueness".

One on the verge of "pro-blogger-dom" doesn't and shouldn't be so obscure with his wording simply because he might lose his gig.

His usual matter-of factness is what landed him or her into that position and one shouldn't compromise because of it. Otherwise you are no better than any MSM journalist who compromises their story because they don't want to lose their 9-5 gig.

Blogging is all about saying what hasn't been said because some organization is obstructing the news or interpreting what should be news to the average Joe.

Plain and simple. Good work A

That sounds like a ton of fun and I am envious of your trip. If you get information about next year's events or something can you post it?

I never know about these things until they are happening or have happened.

Scheduling time in advance to next year's conference would so wonders for my technical proficiency. Ya know? LOL

Since you've never been to San Fran Aaron, let me give you a few tips.

The last time I was there was in 2000 for some technical training so things may have changed.

1) Use the Commuter Rail, Buses, and Subway systems as much as you can. You can get anywhere in San Fran/Oakdale very cheaply on public trans.

However, nothing beats chauffers so if people are going to be driving you around, there's nothing nicer than that eh? LOL

2) San Fran has GREAT sourdough bread. There is this Sony "Mall" in downtown. At the food court on the first level they had this place where you could get philly cheese steak sandwiches on sourdough bread. It was awesome!

3) I managed to get to chinatown and fisherman's wharf. Both are excellent tourist sites and worth looking around.

Good luck, have fun, be safe!

in Anything to Make non-Microsoft Products Look Bad on Technosailor
FF is an awesome browser for being an open source project. I also happen to use Thunderbird for my email. Granted, it makes things difficult when you try t sync your iPAQ because it's not FF/Thunderbird compliant, but it's a heckuva lot cheaper. Sure, I have Office XP, sure it syncs great, but FF/Thunderbird = free. And I always like free.

If this involves You and selling your blog to some "schmuck" who will cherish the thought of running this site into the abyss then I'm not interested.

However, if by changes you mean you are changing how it operates, adding writers, and leaving me with warm happy feelings, then ok... ;)

What Sean said.

I went to see "The Passion" with my Dad and sister. I could not for the life of me understand why they had boxes of kleenex spread all over the theatre until I saw the movie.

Yeah, I got it after that.

The only thing about United 93 is "Can I see it?" 9/11 is still fairly raw for me, and I haven't flown on a plane since then.

Time will tell. Perhaps I can go to McDonalds and rent it for $1 ;)

I like the change Aaron. I am certain that someday I will get sick of black backgrounds, but I think everyone else uses white. What the heck? LOL

You are a pro with WP any way, so for you to feel comfortable changing things up, more power to ya. It's been a learning curve for me, and I am not out of my "shell" yet LOL
