Yeah, this is right up my alley! Marijn, I have a real life rock crawler, not too sure it'd crawl over all traffic, but it was designed to crawl over big rocks!!

And no more waxing the beemer! I just wonder how long it would hold up to the sun and weather. What about a heavy dumping of snow? Or do they assume you have it garaged unless you are driving it?

I can't offer any raising advice. My only experience is raising my dog. I do hear that sleep becomes a thing of the past for a while tho. Enjoy each and every moment because all too soon, there will be boys knocking on your door wanting to take her to the movies!

John, I saw the same thing in Denver. It was truly amazing! Probably not for kids, even ones who are 5 yrs, but it was very educational and worth the price of admission.

Bruce - I feel the same way about the self-training materials. Being a newbie myself, I am having a hard time getting into the program and I feel bad because my employer has dished out some big bucks (for our small company) to buy the software.

But I learn so much better by learning for an expert who is sitting across the hall, but there is none in my case. I have got some good info from the turorials offered currently, but there is a need for more!

That makes two of us Josh. I'll take one in black. My old low-end Motive I bought before I was able to drive legally (gee that's in the double digits) has seen better days. It has served me well tho. I did a final design project in school, where I drew a Rock Shok in 3D. AFAIK, it's still on display. Anyway that was before I knew anything of solidworks, but I would like to go back and re-draw it with soldiworks.

We do something similar as well, but we typically have only 30 parts in our final assemblies. I am starting fresh and for once luck got me on the right path. Most of our projects are similar where just sizes or lengths of items change, but they all still exist. We assign each job a project number, which is sequential, then add the year onto it. For instance our 31st job of this year gets a project number of 1312007. then I use that number in all the files:
D-1312007-1r0.SLDDRW (drawing 1, revision 0)
1312007-____.SLDASM (Final assembly)
1312007-Tube Bundle.SLDASM (Sub assembly)
1312007-Tube-Rtrn.SLDPRT (single Tube)
1312007-Channel-Leg (one part of the frame which is used as a leg)
1312007-...etc

The trouble is starting a new job, I have to go in and manually rename all the files according to the new project. I need to find a Find Replace file renaming program.

Those are good Josh - And John - nice! I know that would fool most of the folks I deal with and their company is small enough there is no IT.

Generally I have been straight up with my bosses. I can think of two instances I told my boss "I am not feeling well today *wink wink, I have some friends with the day off and we're going 4-wheeling". It wasn't a problem since I made sure I was caught up at work and had gobs of sick time to use.

The other time, I told him I was going to be sick next Monday. Took him a while to catch up with that one. But wouldn't you rather know ahead of time if you were the boss?

Uh oops - I replied to the email, not the blog. DOH! I said:

But I also like spending time with my wife and the outdoors, hunting, fishing, wheelin'...anything. Gotta a desk job - go figure! :)

Josh - I am trying to figure out and digest what all you say here, but being new to Solidworks, I am not sure which is best for me. Or what is considered a LARGE assembly. I have started a project and I have the Model completed, however, I am not certain I drew it correctly. And due dates are looming for fabrication drawings. If you have some time, I would like to corresponde with you and get your opinion as to which approach would be best for me and what I should do with my first project (assuming I went down the wrong path).

BTW - This is the first tutorial of yours I have read, and I can already see I will be spending more time here soaking in all the expert info I can. Thanks!
