I prefer curling up with an actual book rather than reading electronically, but you may think differently. But this goes over the $249 limit, I believe, so..

- If you don't have an iPod yet, go get yourself one.

- Or consider investing in a sound system.

- Audeo earphones. Way more than I'd ever consider spending on a pair. Several blogs I follow have reviewed this product, and all apparently have nothing more than praise to offer in it's name.

- Want a tech toy? Try out the Chumby or Nabaztag (did I spell that right?).

- An external hard drive? Something to be considered, at least.

Hope some of these suggestions help you in choosing. Good luck, and Happy Holidays!

Re: Sponsored: Sears, Christmas And Granting Wishes

Haha, you look like you had a blast!
If I won, I'd like Package #3, please. And for a fine reason. I do agree with Heather on the point that Microsoft wants to be able to call some shots, as put, and is after some data.

I for one joined Facebook and soon after closed my sporadically-checked MySpace because I could decide who saw what on my profile. At the time, it seemed secure. Now, I realize that in truth, no social network is truly safe, as they're all vulnerable to hacks and can sell/share user data. Users should be more concerned than they are. There are many people that upload bucket loads of photos to Facebook, precious memories. But what if (hopefully not) all that data were to be lost and they had no backup? Now, that would be a mistake upon the user's part, but simply put, people shouldn't post anything to any social network, or anywhere on the 'net for that matter, that they wouldn't be willing to share with the world.

Re: Sponsored Post - Sears Shopping “A-Ok” With This Blue-Collar Guy

Aw, you have a lovely family! We're just stalling, but eventually, we'll see an exponential increase in the speed. Music.. well, tangible music seems so alien now. Although I still remember when walkmen were used, and when CD players were the new thing (as well as when MP3 players and iPods hit it big), it all seems so long ago. I honestly cannot remember the last time I went out and bought a CD. In fact, the last CD I bought was over a year ago. A great chunk of the music-listening population now owns iPods and/or an MP3 player. They get their music from iTunes, or download it from elsewhere.

The only two I'm not quite sure on are newspapers and books. Although I can see the death (or at least a more mainstream shift to not using actual physical newspapers as much), they won't be replaced with ease, especially with the not-so-tech-savvy group. As much as I'd like to see a more widespread mainstream integration of Kindle and other tablets, it's just not going to happen too soon. Quite a few people find it easier to read a physical copy rather than on a PC or tablet. It's just not going to happen until the tablet-makers find the one thing that will draw the mainstream population in. As the general public begins to accept it, it'll slowly be integrated into our lives, but we won't see the "death of books" quite so soon. Newspapers and school textbooks, however, I can see being replaced.

Re: 2008/11/18/twitter-fail-whale/

Been a while since Twitter's gone down for a while, hasn't it?
The whale was epic! I'd like to search for events between certain dates, and certain categories only as well. It would also be nice to search for events that are within a certain area only as well.

Other than these two, Facebook is great. I do believe that she should be punished in the sense that she influenced the victim's emotions to an unstable extent, causing the loss of a life. However, that does not entail that anyone and everyone with a fake account should be held liable (as not everyone has caused an emotional unbalance in another).

I do understand that people have created fake accounts in the pursuit of privacy. And that Terms of Service are usually far too contradictory, and far more often than not go unread, so perhaps they should be kept straight to the point? But honestly, we're in an age where technology is [possibly far too] integrated into our lives. Shouldn't we at least be able to claim who we actually are online, or at least not create a completely separate personality? I mean, if you're so worried about privacy, just use a nickname, initials, or such and don't provide your cell or address, and make your email private. No need to invent a non-existent personality. Just my two cents.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Re: 2008/11/27/lycos-europe-shut-down-recession/

Huh.. That would kind of keep Chrome's look relatively simple and clean, all the while implementing something many users want. I've suggested this already, and hope to see it put into effect.

Also, would love to be able to sync my other other Google services (i.e. Bookmarks, Notebook,..).

But not too many things. Because if I wanted an add-on overload, I'd revert back to Firefox.

Re: 2008/12/06/2008-year-end-review/

I like Christopher's idea; let's see predictions for 09! I was never really a big add-on person, had maybe, at the most, five in Firefox, so it wasn't difficult to switch over. But Chrome has made me realize how slow Firefox was before, for I did have to open it due to some complications with Chrome. And IE was absolutely unbearable.

Re: 2008/12/21/denver-plane-crash/

Well, it's not just limited to Twitter; this change encompasses any site where users can update statuses (stati?)/micro-blogging tools. For example, I wouldn't think that it'd be uncommon for people who don't use Twitter, but do use Facebook to update their status when some large event happens via mobile.
The people I've asked about news sources say that they'd be more likely to believe in news coming from someone who actually experienced the event rather than a news report for a major corp. It's easier to relate to eye-witnesses rather than reporters.
With that in mind, I'd say that major corps will be filtering sites like Twitter for breaking news (and eye-witness accounts), but will have to justify whatever they find with more plausible facts before they release a story (because, well.. anyone can post anything, but that doesn't make it true), if they aren't already. Which I'd highly doubt, especially after the hype Twitter got after the Mumbai attacks.

Re: 2008/12/24/shiba-inu-puppy-cam-alternatives/

Hehe, tweetbomb, eh?

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Re: The Top 10 Social Networks for Generation-Y

Very nice list. Is it enough for me to become a full-fledged GIMPshop user? Definitely not. Then again, I don't have Photoshop on my personal PC. The idea's pretty much spot-on ridiculous. Popularity shouldn't be associated with authority. And authority isn't always the equivalent of quality. This isn't to say that those with more followers don't turn out good content - it just doesn't hold true for everyone.

Re: Theory: Obama's Zune was giveaway

I love how I've seen at least six different articles pointing out that Obama had a Zune instead of an iPod.

But I do agree with your theory.
