in The Best Super Bowl TV Ad? Here’s My Vote on Marketing Pilgrim
Yeah Andy that is pretty funny. I was in Canada during the Super Bowl and so our ads were different... But I did go over to Yahoo and I to watch their "best of super bowl ads" video page that they put together.
I didn't see that one, dang I wish I was home... I was so looking forward to them. lol

in Yahoo Losing, Google Gaining Display Dominance on Marketing Pilgrim
Very interesting topic. I made a comment about this recently on one of your other post.
It's interesting to see Google creeping up on Yahoo here, but not surprising.
Yahoo doesn't really talk about their display ads platform (banners) to the world as much...it's not as "popular" per say.
Meaning if you search the net for ways to advertise it's rare that you see some marketer mention heading over the Yahoo to test display ads, but you do here people talking about PPC and going over to Google to use Adwords.
Yahoo should take some notes from Google and start making their display platform easy to use, and quick to start showing ads, like Google does with their Adwords program. They should also start a "buzz" campaign and direct response campaign that gets marketers talking about the Yahoo advertising (display) network.
People don't know enough... Yes they have big advertisers, but only online marketers I hear really talking about using them are the Garcias. But they talk about using big ad budgets, $10,000+
Yahoo is now seeing Facebook grab some of this market and Myspace (well kindof). They need to get people talking, they need to make it easy and fast, and they need to make it available to the normal mom & pops marketers like Google does. This gets people involved and spending money and then more once they try it.
They could start giving out free coupons and stuff for people who want to test it out.
Let the world know that they are doing 7.1 Billion dollars here and that they are the best at what they do in this arena before they lose out to Google and Facebook. They should also get more reach. Google has been well known for increasing their reach, which is why their Adwords platform is All That. lol
Anyway, this comment is pretty long.
Thanks for the great post Jordan and Have a great day Andy.

But of course. If they really want to become a major player against Google like they say they do they will have to acquire Yahoo Search...

in Is Search Weathering the Recession Storm? on Marketing Pilgrim
That's awesome. I would expect though that search would hold it's own. When money is tight you have to go with what you know works, and with search you get to put yourself in front of prospects that are looking for your product right then.
I still think that the Yahoo and MSN deal is a good one. I like both of them. And some of the services that MSN offers like adlab.msn.com would be even better.

in Google Closes Print Ads - Still a One Trick Pony? on Marketing Pilgrim
Yeah, this platform just never really got me that excited. I don't know why. But good for them that they're the best at their one trick. lol. And it's the reason why they're Google today. That's not so bad. They do have different versions of their trick though...video, text, banner, search, site targeted... ; )

in Yahoo CEO’s Salary: $1M if She Sucks, $19M if She Kicks Butt! on Marketing Pilgrim
I love it. I think more companies and almost all publicly traded companies should go to a performanced based salary. Get the job done get paid. I mean your not gonna starve on a $1 million salary, so she'll be alright. But the upside is awesome.
Maybe Yahoo will set the trend for this new type of CEO salary offerings. Especially in a economy like this one.

in Search Spending Down 8% in Q4; Will Google’s Earnings Report Reflect the Same? on Marketing Pilgrim
We know this is going to effect Google big, but I wonder how much more will it hurt them than Yahoo,... because Yahoo makes a lot of money through other forms of advertising such as media buys (banners) and such. Although online advertising spending is down too.

Very interesting. I think it's cool, but... Glad this is still in "beta", lol.
This will definitely make SEO harder. But it's the same stuff we've been saying, you need good content. Give your readers a reason why they would want to say good things about you and come back. Also means that diversifying traffic sources will be important.

in Yahoo Has Eyes on Internet TV on Marketing Pilgrim
Interesting. I have liked the idea of Internet TV for sometime now. Not that I watch a lot of TV at all really, but there are 2 shows I really like, and occasionally it's nice to pass the time. As we start seeing more of this, we will start to see more discussions on net neutrality too. How's Hulu doing?

in Would Better Results Make You Switch Search Engines? on Marketing Pilgrim
Google and Yahoo both provide great search. I think the normal searcher can "learn" to search better. I search Google for searches related to business, but Yahoo for most everything else, and my wife loves Yahoo. I saw that Google has over 70% of search, How is that possible when Yahoo has the #1 Alexa ranking? I mean they just had a new commercial about them getting more traffic than Google...or something like that.

True. Google and Yahoo both do that for very competitive terms. I don't see that as much non-competitive terms, but the ones that make them money, they do.

in Digg’s Lack of Ad Targeting is Hurting Revenue on Marketing Pilgrim
Interesting find... untargeted ads. This is obviously super important and easy to fix. Hopefully they are monitoring alerts so they'll get this post and stop loss ; ) I don't know how that will go selling to Google though considering they were going to get sued for becoming a monopoly earlier this year when trying to work a deal with Yahoo. I mean they are really being watched. So much exciting drama online, can't wait to see what happens...lol
