in This is What a Piece of Shit Looks Like on danielmiessler.com | grep understandingWhy do you hate him? Because he has an opinion you don't agree with? Should I hate you because I don't agree with your opinions? Should he not deserve a life to live due to his differing opinion?
And you know what? Maybe he claims to BE a Christian, but actually isn't one. Isn't it society that keeps telling us all Muslims aren't radicals or extremists? That Islam isn't actually about the violent teachings in the Koran? If that statement is true, how can you stoop to this guy's level and generalize Christianity?
I've always figured you for a pretty level headed guy, but here lately, you have been bashing Christians left and right. Not that I mind, as I can take criticism and I realize you're entitled to your opinion. I just think it's pretty close minded of you to generalize all Christians in a lump category. I am a Bible believing Christian and I think you'd be suprised at what I do believe and don't believe.
I don't agree with his bumper stickers at all, but wow Daniel, who pissed in your cornflakes lately?

in Obama Knew O.J. Did It on danielmiessler.com | grep understandingI don't agree this is totally what America needs. For him to be mentored and take into counsel for 15-20 years the "wisdom" and advice of Jeremiah Wright concerns me. You can't be in that type of a relationship and not have some of his idiocy, and more importantly his racism, influence your world view and belief system.
Just look at his wife's senior thesis while at Princeton. Michelle Obama thesis was on racial divide. Disregard the article at Politico if you wish, but definitely read her actual thesis paper they have posted. Obama's getting black liberation rhetoric from all angles.
However, I think I've said it in the past, I'm definitely not a fan of Hitlery or McCain. So what do I do? Well, when it comes down to the general election, I'll do what I've always had to do: vote the lesser of two evils, which in my opinion is McCain. I don't agree with Democrats Universal healthcare plans, their plans to destroy 2nd amendment, global warming policy, lack of welfare reform, and a host of other policies. Please read this, if anything: I do not agree with many of McCain's policies either. I just agree with more of his than anyone else.

in OK, I’ll Stop Reading Reddit, But Someone Do Me a Favor and Send Me an Email When I Need to Buy Ammo and Camping Gear on dmiessler.com | grep understandingYeah I would definitely stock up now instead of later. Don't be one of those people who tries to buy the bread and milk AFTER an emergency is eminent, do it before it gets out to the general public. However, at this point, you could tell the American public that America was going to be broke by 01/2009 and no one would care. As long as they can get their big screen TV's and new cars at these really great low interest rates!
And for those of you not in the know about guns and ammo, here's another great reason to stock up now. There was a major 20% price hike on all ammo and components as of January 1st of this year. Ammo has never gotten cheaper as time went on. If anything, you can just view as an investment that you can sell later if you want.
Even if America doesn't crumble to ruins, you've got to be ready for the zombies!! :)

in If You Truly Support Ron Paul You Won’t Stand By and Allow McCain to Destroy This Country For Another Four Years on danielmiessler.com | grep understandingOne of the absolute most important issues to me is a candidate's stance on Gun Control. Obama and Clinton (since they are socialist's deep down) seek to control their constituents and when a government no longer has to fear the citizens, that is complete governmental control. Each Democratic candidate would seek to enforce mandatory gun registration which in turn leads to a very easy confiscation initiative.
While I do admire a number of Obama's stances more so than McCain, I still can not and will not ever vote for him or Hitlery because of their opinion on gun control.
Call me a conspiracy theorist if you will, but we are heading towards a Socialistic society just like in V for Vendetta. Laugh and joke, but it's true. The Federal government can't manage FEMA, the war, Social Security, Welfare, but we think they can manage healthcare? HA!
So no, I can not and will not vote for anyone other than RP. Wasted vote you say? That's your opinion, but at least when the US goes down the crapper, I can hold my head high and say I did the right thing. This is the absolute worst slate of presidential candidates I have ever seen or could imagine.

in Mexican Immigration on danielmiessler.com | grep understandingGreat post Daniel! The US is turning into Mexico overnight. Not because of the influx of Latino's, but as you mention, the proliferation of their culture and way of living. No, I'm not talking about just Latino food or Latino music. I'm talking about the fact they are just recreating their communities they left in Mexico, here in the US.
Certain races/ethnic groups have certain cultural tendencies and general cultural lifestyles. Sometimes those tendencies need to be adjusted to conform to where they are. Reminds me of "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."
For example, the Spanish language should NOT be forced upon our children in school. This is why the immigration problem is creating a merged society. This is America, not little Tijuana. English is the accepted language. Immigrants should have to conform to the US standards. If they don't like that idea, then maybe they should stay where they are and try to improve their own communities that do possess some of the cultural traits that are most pleasing to them.
Legal pathway to citizenship? There is a legal pathway to citizenship. Plenty of immigrants are doing it and thousands have already. If we grant amnesty to all the current illegals residing the in the US, what does that tell all the immigrants who went through the appropriate process? What does that tell future illegals? It tells them, just wait long enough, cause enough problems, and generally be a nuisance to the people of the country they're in, and they'll get amnesty.

in Guns on University Campuses as a Microcosm of Larger Society on dmiessler.com | grep understandingThanks weasel, I've been there. My point is the UK didn't feel any safer than I do here in America. There were the clean, safe parts of town, just like there were the seedy, red light district parts of town.
And last I checked, gun violence has NOT been eliminated there. My point is, our country was founded on the principles of individual rights and liberties. This was written into our founding documents in the very beginning. Are we just going to allow that to be taken away? People live out of fear now. And the government uses that fear like the way they use 9/11 to pass things like the un-Patriot Act and Warrantless Surveillance bills.
George Washington said it best in 1790: "A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."
This is what a true checks and balances mean. Where the citizens AND the government keep things in check. And Weasel, are you saying you disagree with my example of Kennesaw, GA? You disagree that an prevelantly (sp?) armed society is a polite one?

in Guns on University Campuses as a Microcosm of Larger Society on dmiessler.com | grep understandingScrew equations. Let's break it down into IT Security terms. The only truly secure, impenetrable computer is one that is locked away underground and never powered on and never has ANY network connectivity. That then makes it inconvenient/unusable as well as secure. So we have to balance convenience with risk.
Using that knowledge we know that no computer or network is perfectly secure. We just have to secure it as best we can and make our systems harder to penetrate than the next guy right? This way, we won't be the easy target and most malicious folks would move on to the next easier target or victim.
Translate this to guns. If you knew that a certain home/school/town were armed in most cases, you, as a would be criminal would most likely not attack said location. You would move on to an easier target. People that are armed refuse to be victims.
"Gun free zones" are advertisements for massacres and gun violence. When a bank says it is a gun free zone, does that keep the criminals from robbing it with guns? No. VA Tech was a gun free zone right? Gee, I wish Cho Seung-Hui would've gotten that memo before he murdered 32 people.
I believe people should be able to Conceal Carry a Weapon (CCW) on campus or almost anywhere else. To back up my belief, take a look at Kennesaw, GA, (AKA Guntown, USA) where as of 2007 they were murder free for 25 years! http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?A...>
An armed society is a polite society. Would crime and gun violence be eradicated if everyone were armed? No. But it sure couldn't be any worse than places like the UK where guns are supposedly banned. That only means honest people aren't allowed to have guns, criminals never have a problem having them even in the UK.
Anyone ever wonder why unlawful shootings ever occur at gun ranges?

in Home Network: Windows Server 2008 and Stuff on danielmiessler.com | grep understandingFor Server '08 (and any other MS product) look into the Microsoft Action Pack subscription. It's $299/year and you get pretty much any and all software MS puts out mailed to you in a big binder, plus you get quarterly updates. You have to be a MS Partner to participate, but all that means is that you can be a consultant, teacher, reseller, etc that endorses/teaches/resells MS stuff. VERY easy. $300 and you get EVERYTHING. Beta's, Alpha's and Final Releases.
Also, if that doesn't appeal to you, I've heard about MSDN subscriptions. However, I have no experience with that and don't know what all is included, so YMMV.
BTW, my recommendation for a Check Point box is to run their Secure Platform OS (SPLAT) and run the firewall on that. Very stable IMO and experience.

Yeah, so does CNN and any other news network out there. Hard right wingers and Neocons watch Fox and absorb it. Hard leftie's and MoveOn type people feed off of CNN. Hardly anyone does their own research anymore and is just to quick to accept what they are spoon fed.
That mentality translates to a large reason why Ron Paul didn't get more support. People WANT to be sheep. They WANT to be taken care of. They DON'T want to have to think. But I digress...

in Montel Pwns Fox News Simpletons on dmiessler.com | grep understandingI'm still confused. So we shouldn't talk about Heath Ledger's death? All news shows should focus only on the troop's that died that day? I think if we're going to talk about all the bad that's going on in Iraq, we need to also talk about the lives that a lot of those soldiers are changing, even if it's just a one on one basis.
However, I'm for bringing them home ASAP. I'm with RP on this and think it's an unconstitutional war. But to talk about the Iraq war like there has been some sort of massive casualty count is ridiculous. The number of casualties in this war has been nothing compared to the amounts from previous engagements.
