good stuff. i actually responded to this over at skeptical brotha. i'll repost my comment here...if that's cool with people.
--------
interestingly, the only person who i've heard hit this dilemma on the head is jon stewart on the daily show.
the corporations of media have almost dared the black people who can do something about it, to say something!
what's worse, the cats who did cover the speech labeled it and obama as some sort of cannon for the 'silent impending black riots'. wtf.
while i know we are all divided on what candidate is the best, i almost feel like educated black folks need to pull a 'GOP, year 2000' and just vote for our guy....because in the end, he'll at least, AT LEAST, force these issues into a back-alley speech....even if john boy and his crew decide to cover the next chapter in paris hilton that day.
who knows....obama may even mean it....
:-)
side note: 'ignores' in the title is misspelled.

i am kind of mixed on the issue. on one hand, i understand that my man worked hard and volunteered. on the other, i feel like he exploited the popularity and 'brand' of obama by asking for some giant fee. democrats, by association, are always assumed docile. i don't blame them for using cut-throat business tactics to try and take what was rightfully theirs anyways.
i mean, its not 'joe anthony' @ myspace. its barack obama @ myspace who je anthony had the pleasure of working for.
when in doubt, hire sharks, and let them fight in the pits.
on a side note, can we get some link love? :-P

in Ask Questions, Get Answers from John Kerry on the Environment on Jack and Jill Politics
i'm a ybp that has been in london for the past 6 months. i've noticed the aggressive measures the UK is doing to curb the onset of global warming, including green taxes on airfare, taxes on power consumption, and taxes on certain vehicles.
is the u.s. considering funding a lot of environmental progression through taxes? what do you think is the most effective way of communicating to americans who are used to consuming in mass quantities that a lifestyle change is necessary?
last but not least, environmentally sound cars are expensive. a majority of the black community is below the poverty line and cannot afford these vehicles. are their plans to provide incentives to those who may not be able to afford these cars outright....like the HUD program for housing?

i also was pretty inspired by al speaking out. you get so used to him being in a particular role.
i had a small idea about what we can do. nothing big, but sometimes small change helps.

If you watch that video, and strictly speaking from a face-value standpoint, Deadlee is NOT the cat who will be spitting poignant shite. My man can't seem to talk without his hands and the overused 'yaknowwhatimsayin'.

in learning to program on YBPGuide
duly noted. while software can help the logistics of a project, the people that are involved are still ultimately the key factors.
learning programming trains your mind to re-check, test, and evaluate the efficiency of how things are done.
while commercial software may benefit, there are also other robust, free open-source options.

i'll have to check that out, ancestry.com.
was there any apprehension in seeing if you could determine the family that owned your ancestors? what kind of feelings does that prospect create?

very true. i think one thing to keep in mind, as well, is that harboring negative feelings towards someone takes more energy than letting things go.
while it will always sting when a friend does something to you unexpected, it will be even worse for your well-being if you never internally forgive that person and move on.

the main point to take away is that the term 'lending' goes out of the window when it comes to someone you know. its not a loan, its a gift.

while a sentence is purely subjective, the point is that violence is not the answer. ever.
we learned that as kids. self-control is a very important skill to learn. it allows for less stress, self-confidence, and proper perspective.
it shouldn't take a traumatic experience to bring people back to reality.

Another neat option, Ashley, to facilitate a clean Inbox is the 'Archive' function. It's right next to the 'Report Spam' button. By selecting the emails you want to Archive, then selecting the 'Archive' button, they will be hidden from the Inbox view.
Coolest thing about it is that your archived items can still be searched!

in Love . . . is a pair of really good jeans on YBPGuide
interesting note about the importance of material clothing over intimate contact with another person. are men really that bad?
thats so deep. i wonder if men were given the choice of sex, cars, money, and sports....which would be preferred.
anyways, speaking on the topic of 'jeans that are great', found an article in time about a website that aims to improve this match.

true. i doubt ANY form of government will ever 'apologize' for anything. this whole 'my fathers did it, not me' mentality is still rather hypocritical though.
cats wants jobs and hookups because of their family, but don't want to own up when they've used that advantage today for their means to an end.

in editorial: black people glorify violence on YBPGuide
I'm not sure if the post was about praising the writing skill, but more of her frank opinion on the topic.
Interestingly, I agree with James on the back and forth of her recent articles. I especially disagree with her recent article comparing Tank to Ray. Either way, there is a fine line between the contradiction existing in our pop culture, to the icons that live it, to the ybp's that attempt to sort it all out.

Well, you obviously can't speak for everyone. I do know that the executive leadership for quite a few Black Greek organizations are putting their money where their mouth is and suspending and even removing the charter from chapters that still practice tortuous methods. The point is although it only takes a few to ruin it for some, the structure is in place to weed these people out, so when stuff like this happens, it doesn't go ignored.

in Death Penalty Moratorium Project on YBPGuide
What's weird about statistics like that is that they probably only paint half the picture. I think one of the more landmark actions regarding the disparity of the death penalty enforcement is how governors are putting a 'stay' on all executions in some states because of the bias that was so blatant 10 to 40 years ago....i.e. former Illinois Governor George Ryan.

in New BMW set to hit U.S. shores on YBPGuide
There is a little bit of back and forth about whether luxury car companies should 'water down' the market with entry-level and mid-level cars. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I'm definitely a fan of the trickle down effect of some of the technology that gets put into the 7-series and 6-series. I think the main downside is that the brand will not hold its value as well, especially if the entry-level segments aren't put together well. Think Cadillac in its first version of the CTS, Mercedes with the C-Class, and Land Rover with the Freelander.
