in Boing Boing Mea Culpa on In Pursuit of Mysteries
I caught Xeni posting some total mis-fact at one point or another--I can't even remember what it was now, but it was egregious--and I sent her email to point out to her what the true facts of the matter were. She never corrected what she wrote, nor even acknowledged the email.
I'm sure she's a very busy person.
I stopped taking Boing Boing seriously about three years ago. This latest fracas only confirms the wisdom of that decision.
(PS: I'm out of town as of tomorrow until 8/2, in Portland, Ottawa and Amsterdam, successively. I should be back for most of August, and I'll certainly be at LinuxWorld. Are you planning on showing up there...?)

in 2008/03/17/iphone-sdk-wrong/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
The fellow who "knows from experience" seems to simply be apologizing for the iPhone lack of adequate power management. Neither Windows Mobile devices, nor Symbian devices, seem to have the need to disallow applications from running in the background in order to preserve battery life. Presumably they're not somehow violating the laws of physics by doing this...

Exactly. I read that post and all it does is saying "Apple is right about this one, and most devs don't have a clue." Well, OK, that's one opinion. It doesn't change the fact that no, SDK third party apps can't run in the background according to current rules.

It's a "real SDK"...? With the iTunes Music Store the only means of distribution, iTunes the only means of installation, and a requirement for an "Okay by Steve" seal of approval on every app...?
Hm.
