I used to be a reporter for the Island Packet. I miss that place SOOO much. And to answer your question about the jelly fish, generally speaking, you're right it's stupid to go swimming when you see so many wash ashore, but on warm days sometimes you have to take your chances. I lived there for two years without being stung. Then on one of my last weekends there, my friends and I went nightswimming and I totally got stung on the elbow. It hurt, for sure, but wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Next time you go to Hilton Head, you have to go to the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. Also, try to go to the north end of the island and walk around the "heel" of the island near Calibougie Sound ... It's so beautiful. You can access it via Fish Haul Creek Park. If you go during low tide you'll find the best shells, and in the summer you'll almost always spot dolphins there! Oh your post made me miss it even more. As for the red wine, can't help you there. I do enjoy me some wine, but when it comes to sweet reds, I'm at a loss.

Re: Critter’s Krib » Blog Archive » P90X Day 60 Sneak Peak

Great job, Critter. I hate it when marketing people say "let's make a viral video." I love your cat in a bath of ice water analogy! Very funny, but I would expect no less from you.

Re: Writing Going Down the Tube…

It's hard for me to answer this question b/c I've been a grammar nerd since elementary school. My English teacher made us diagram sentences, memorize every single preposition and more. Also, as a newspaper reporter for eight years, I learned the value of self editing and trying to make sentences as concise as possible. That's one good thing I can say about Twitter. The 140 character limit often makes you stop and rethink what you're "tweeting" b/c it won't fit. That forces you to self-edit, which in some cases can be a good thing (b/c let's face it, we can all be a bit wordy sometimes).

That having been said, for whatever reason, students today are not learning how to write properly (that's a sweeeping statement I realize, but doesn't it seem to be completely true). So in that regard, I can see the character limits on Twitter and text messages adding fuel to this poor grammar fire.

As I write this, I realize I've typed b/c instead of because. Guess that's become a habit for me.

Re: Where's the Clark Griswold House in the Triangle? › Follow Greg

I was wondering the same thing. So far, the only place I've heard of is in Clayton. Someone submitted a video of their huge family display to MyNC. Here are the details:
http://clayton.mync.com/site/clayton/community/...

Re: Alex - First Car

My first car was a 1984 Buick SkyHawk (not to be confused with a Skylark). What do you guys think of encouraging everyone to bring one or two canned or boxed food items? We can turn our tweetup (which generally has pretty good attendance) into a food drive. If everyone brought two items and 50 people showed up, that's a lot of food we could donate to the NC Food Bank. I'd be happy to coordinate this if you think people would be interested in helping.

Re: The NBA to host it’s 1st tweetup with exclusive access for twitter friends & when was NC 1st tweetup?

That first tweetup was so fun. I remember @waynesutton livestreamed it. I couldn't stay for the whole thing because I had a hair appointment. I remember thinking the word "Tweetup" was so cute/clever. And since then I've come to know/collaborate with @theRab and @dgtlpapercuts. And love chatting with @shepherdfx whenever we see each other at conferences or other tweetups. So much has changed on Twitter since then.

Re: Lean Cuisine Stuffed Cabbage Makes an Appearance on Rock of Love Bus

Another Triangle blogger blogged about this episode. I'm relaxing a little when it comes to instant messaging. More often then not, I still feel compelled to make sure my IMs are properly spelled and punctuated, but I'm starting to relax a little about that. It will be interesting to see what the future holds when it comes to business and correspondence. Maybe when today's youth are in charge, something like this will be the norm in corporate e-mails: OMG, I <3 your idea.
