in Nearly 60% Won't Graduate At Chicago Southside's Myra Bradwell Elementary, Some Parents Such as Tatianna Dennis Blame the School for her Son's Failure on Black Political Thought
Janet, I certainly didn't intend to paint all blacks with a broad brush. I'm glad that you grew up with two parents and that you're making sure to raise your kids the same way. But you can't deny the fact that Chicago - and other large cities - have been Democrat-run for decades.

You also can't dismiss the fact that Obama was a big mover and shaker with regard to the Chicago school system. He chaired the Annenburg foundation for at least four years (I won't even mention William Ayers participation). This foundation got millions of dollars and was supposed to "bringing hope and change to the mostly minority inner city school children trapped in Chicago schools." How's that going? Doesn't make a difference. He's President now.

Sorry, I see the Democrat party's ideological fingerprints all over this and all other inner city school failures.

Janet Shan Eric -- I hear you and I don't think you and I are that far apart ideologically. I am afraid people like Rev. Jesse Jackson, Roland Burris, President Obama and all the other movers and shakers in Chicago are guilty of not doing more to help these communities and improve these inner city schools. I do believe that a big part of the problem has to do with a lack of personal responsibility by the parents of these children. It is unfortunate that many black homes are headed by single parents. The breakdown of the family structure is a big problem that contributes to a lot of delinquencies in these children. The mother, being the only breadwinner for the family, has to work and sadly, that leaves her in a tenuous position of not being there for the children as much as she should.

As always, thank you for your comments.

in Nearly 60% Won't Graduate At Chicago Southside's Myra Bradwell Elementary, Some Parents Such as Tatianna Dennis Blame the School for her Son's Failure on Black Political Thought
Hi Janet, Haven't commented here in quite a while but decided to be the fly in your ointment today ...

Did anyone notice that every adult interviewed or referred to is a female? Mother Tatianna Dennis, aunt Loetisis Billingsley, “parent” Vanessa Ewing, “parent” Sharon Shavers, and “another mother.” All these mothers refer to their role as parents in the singular. Ms. Dennis says specifically, “There’s nobody but me.”

Perhaps I’m reading too much between the lines here, but do these students have any dads? Where the hell are the fathers? Did Mr. Williams try to find this out? Probably not: Too politically incorrect.

So blame the schools, blame the parents, blame the kids if you want. But you know who deserves the blame most for this predicament? Liberalism, which has sowed the seeds of perpetual poverty and illegitimacy and the it’s-society’s-fault mentality since LBJ’s Great Society. One of the hugest failed government programs in U.S. history.

I feel bad for these people. I really do. For two generations they’ve been dependent on a system that does not work. And what will the system’s solution for this failure be? More of it! That’s how liberal big-government works!

And speaking of failed government programs, the irony should not be lost on anyone that this is Chicago, where President P.O.S. reigned, the guy who one week from today is going to be using ABC News as his own media biatch to dupe the nation into buying into his nationalized health care scheme.

Janet Shan Eric -- I was with you until you started your rant about liberalism.
Whatever happened to personal responsibility? Yes, there is a breakdown of
the family structure in innercity homes and the fathers are mostly absent.
That's where personal responsibility comes in. I grew up in a home with a
mother and father present and my kids are growing up the same way. I don't
look to the government to determine my how I live and or my self-worth, so I
cannot blame President Obama for the ills of the inner cities across the
USA. Chicago isn't the only city fraught with these issues, but they have
been in the news the most for obvious reasons.

Thanks for your comments and great to have your input!

"Suddenly, sales of 400 cookies in a good week soared to more than 1,000 a week, with requests coming from as far away as Mexico. Alas, the price is going up, from 50 cents to 75 cents a cookie to make up for the time it takes to make more each day."

What!?!? They jacked up the price because there was more of a demand for a product? And by 50%??? That's PRICE GOUGING!!! Obama-induced price gouging, no less. Remember when Obama was concerned about how quickly gas prices went up. But not even evil ExxonMobil would dare raise their price by 50% in so short a time. Will Obama stand up to this cafe who jacked up their price so quickly and by so much? Shouldn't Schmuck Schumer be organizing a Stalinist "windfall profit" show trial right about now?
