Nothing against UNICEF, but seeing how this is to some extent a technology themed blog, I think the Electronic Frontier Foundation is a better option.

I'm curious to know if it would be feasible for a product like this to use the rotors or spindles or whatever you call them from within the tape deck itself to power it, or at the very least provide a bit of juice to prolong the life of the battery.
Perhaps you could set it to fast forward/rewind when you're not using it in order to charge it?

If memory serves, it was in netscape communicator - not sure if they had it first or not though.

Is this some kind of fancy digital etch-a-sketch, or is there some magical technique to make lines separate from all others that I'm not aware of?

Attractive, but being as obsessive as I am, dusting and polishing those rings would be the end of me.

A good idea, but I don't think it will be much use at 30m without a flash. By that depth the water has filtered out enough light/colors that you won't get decent pictures without one.
Good for snorkelers, but I don't think it would be much use to scuba divers going particularly deep.
That would of course depend on where you're going and the visibility of said place.
I've yet to do my first dive though (still in training!), so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I wouldn't think it would be that hard to come up with a template you can print off and use to cut cardboard into a shape that can be folded into this. And that would only cost $0.
The main difficulty would be that you'd have to account for different sizes of power cords, but I don't think that would be that big of an issue.

Prior to this I didn't even know that you could get heated towel racks. I can live without the TV in the bathroom however, so I guess I & my demographic won't be needing this piece of wonderful gadgety convergence.

I don't think it'd be nearly as creepy if it weren't for the creaky noises.

I find it hard to believe that there are 104 million photo sharing sites, especially considering that a google search for 'photo sharing' only returns 112 million pages (or thereabouts).

If memory serves, this was invented by a contestant on CBS's Survivor. I think it was either a winner or a runner up. Not sure.

A note to any canadians trying to track one down. Zippo has a canadian website, including a canadian retailer locator.

Looks like a nice idea, but there are few things I find more annoying than a table I can't get my knees under while sitting at it. Having to reach 2 feet to my cereal isn't much fun.

This should be perfect for my Evil Lairâ„¢.
I really wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see this system used in a movie, as it's just too good to not use in hollywood.

One thing I've noticed in all of this is that a lot of users were screaming about how this was going against their freedom of speech, rights, et cetera.
To all of those people, I say this: Welcome to the internet - you're not in kansas anymore.
With all the TOS agreements and so on, freedom of speech on (most of) the internet is not the presence of freedom, but rather a lack of a removal of it.

I've been waiting for something like this ever since I first learned what a CVT was. The price is still a bit steep though - hopefully it'll drop down to average-joe-level within a few years.

Automatic may be a neat idea, but I doubt I'll be leaving regular bikes until they can offer me a CVT. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuously_varia... )

It would be epic to buy a few sets of these things and put them on either side of your sidewalk. Rig them up to motion detectors, and then as people come up your sidewalk at night, pillars of fire erupt on either side with every step.

It's a great idea though, and it has been quite a while since it was last mentioned, so I imagine there are many new readers who haven't seen it yet.

Sounds like a lovely idea for warm places - I can't see that solar panel doing much once it's covered in snow though.

One other quick note - if you guys are really really obsessive about bandwidth usage, load times, et cetera, I figure you should be able to trim (at the very least) 5,062 bytes off of a front page viewing by compressing 8 out of the 20 .gif images into .png images - in my testing, the other 12 compressed better as .gif images.
Yes, I have no life whatsoever. And yes, you can feel free to make fun of me for it. :P

Very neat & tidy, and everything just fits. I like the lower-contrast text you've used in so many places - very nice touch.

It does, photophile - there's already a license plate on the back of the vehicle - it's not visible in these pictures though, it's a bit higher up.
If you had a bike on the rack, however, it would obstruct the 'primary' license plate, which is why there is a second plate, identical to the primary plate.
