Thank you for raising my consciousness. Though I do not use them, I now have more reason to tell my colleagues why we should not use them.

Is it work specialization for business competitiveness or individual fulfillment? Breaking down a series of tasks into smaller components, and having different persons specialize in each of the tasks increases productivity, but repetition without the opportunity to explore beyond what is required to keep to the cycle time is against human nature. A musician specialising can become Beethoven, but a wheel assembly operator cannot explore possibilities without disrupting production flow or increasing costs. Operations management work specialization is a cruel way to suppress the creativity and potential of a person to satisfy the sales targets of corporations.
