i dream about colors. and smells. in my dreams i can smell. which is really amazing when i wake up i can remember the dream through visuals and scent. I love the work you are doing. would you create a font set?

Ninja Hi Ms. Ophelia,

Thanks for stopping by and sharing. I usually have very strong visuals and sounds in my dreams, but rarely anything concerning taste or smell. Maybe it's because my room is stuffy and my nose is all plugged up?

This typeface already exists (sans the little girl). Do you recognize it?

Cheers,
Ninja

in Startup Reactor: 8 Tips for Startup Hiring Success on How To Split An Atom
I have experienced Start Ups that work from the proverbial "Garage" mindset. "We are boot strapping it and we can only move fast if we don't do all that stuff other companies do". Fix if it leaks, if it doesn't ignore it until it does. Then it just costs twice what you would've spent.

And that's the problem; a Start Up is a company and it should be run that way. If your ultimate goal is be financed, the first thing they look at is the way you run your company. Liabilities can kill a deal and a good idea.

Is there a way to gauge Twitter spikes during internal strife or events that cross all socio-economic classes? i.e. Paris Riots, UK elections, Celeb Arrests/Jail time/pregnancies?

Let me bolster that comment of "We are the Mongols". If ever, Heaven Forbid another 9-11 occurs. Lets see where the amount of activity will be. Online. Twitter, vlogs, chat. That networking online will become a unifier and a place of comfort. Those not in it now, will discover it and find the community they long for.

sbspalding Maybe not even that extreme. I can't remember who said it, but we'll know this has gone mainstream when police and fire departments start using it to communicate.

You can't remain in a vacuum. To stay on top of what was happening, you have to be in the "town square" and listen to the conversations going on around you. How else will you know that the Rampaging Mongols are about to hit your village? Not by staying cloistered in your yurt. :O)

sbspalding But tons and tons of people still do remain tucked in safely in their yurts. Could we possibly be creating our own Mongols?

in The Cure and their 13th album on Ninja vs Penguin
i have in my possession a silk screen LP cover done by hand by the Cure, it was their first LP pressing. they made their own LP sleeve, which they printed on 12 x 24 bristol board and then folded to hold the LP. unfolded it was a poster. the image is of a small boy on crutches...the ink used was florescent orange on pale blue board.

i have it hidden. just incase a bunch of rabid Cure fans come over one day.

Secret HQ is just down the hill in Silverlake. A wonderful area of sole ownership stores (no major brands, what a relief). Gelato, books, funky designer clothes, retro furniture, moroccan, peruvian, bespoke coffee, and the most amazing cheese shop with the nicest people behind the counter (you could eat lunch on their samples).

thanks for giving Scott space on your blog. as always you are the Maven of art.

yes we do care, if we sponsor a product it's our "name" that is attached to it. it's a new world. we are going to care about what we sell. this generation has more at stake (more than our souls). a company telling me that a product will improve my life is not going to get anywhere with me, i want someone whom i trust to let me know the truth. i have less time and money to waste on blind trust.

sbspalding That's exactly right. Display advertising, while still marginally effective, is almost exclusively about keeping a product top of mind now. Real selling, I think, especially of high ticket items will come from endorsement.

There will be the same pot of money, but more guests at the table. (btw that flashing gif ad drives me nuts)
Corporations will not take your word anymore, they will attach their own software to your content and get the results directly. There's no more "well Nielsens said 2.5 million watched the show".
Accountability is the selling point. When they attach themselves to your content you have to do the extra work to get it out there on all levels. By Twittering, blogging, commenting, linking, it will be a full time job and a new one ( maybe call it Maven)

sbspalding So we become a world of brand evangelists do we? Do we start determining who to trust by who they allow to sponsor them? Do we care?

in Aggregation Obsession on How To Split An Atom
One problem I can see happening is that all your tweets, comments, pics are all jetsam and flotsam. One day you just might to gather it all up. But you can't because you forgot the password, username, url etc. So it floats all over the web. And we look out our windows and see it all float by, there is no net big enough to catch it all. So be good, behave and leave only what you would be proud of. All your words and images combine into multiple web feeds, which means it becomes infinite.

reminds me of Aubrey Beardsley http://beardsley.artpassions.net/

i love Beardsley, when i first saw his work when i was about 10 years old. my dad had one of his books, and i grabbed it from the shelf. i was hooked then on pen and ink, and flowing lines.

the sensuality of the lines that wrapped around the body, i felt like Alice, when she fell down the rabbit hole. i was in love and in a swoon over his work.

your work is sublime. i am constantly amazed and inspired by your energy and art. i love the "blackness" of the final hair. and the choice of the wood panel is inspired. so what's next? i can't wait to see what is brewing...

in Dealing With Stress on How To Split An Atom
I miss the social interaction of an office, but I love the silence of my studio more. When I do get stressed out, all I have to do is walk outside and sit in the garden. You could do that at an office, but not in your lumpy sweat pants and "I <3 Pandas" tshirt.

i love these. they have a "lost" quality about them. lost stories, lost pages, lost images. very singular. bits of floating jetsam and flotsam.
