That making the file out of 4's and 5's won't work, because those are make out of 1's and 0's themselves.
DRM is something that is always destined to fail. Why? Because there will always be someone smarter and more motivated than the person making the DRM that will find a way to BREAK the DRM or remove it totally.
Making an uncopyable file is impossible. A better thing to do would be for all music and movie files downloaded off the internet from stores to be labeled with the name, address and phone number of the person who bought it. That would solve the problem of piracy, because who is going to trade a file that would be so easy for the police to trace back to them.

You make some very good points in this article. Interoperable DRM is a contradiction in terms, and we are going to have to start pushing for legislatures to make DRM of any form illegal.
The only thing that DRM does is make legitimate users jump through hoops in order to use their legitimate downloads.
It's bull, and people are beginning to realize in the enthusiast section of the tech community, that is what it is.

The best thing that we could do in terms of copyright is to severly limit it, like make copyright terms at the most 10 years.
Copyright is too often used today to mean "perpetual money coming in our pocket", which is not what the founders had meant for it to be.

A better thing to do would be for the government to step in and say "One price for 20GB, 40 GB, so on".
That would solve the problems of bandwidth leeches of which I am admittedly one (download 20 gb of stuff a month or more).
But if the government were to do that, I would cry foul UNLESS they lowered the prices dramatically as compared to unlimited access plans.
