It was not your immagination. There really was a continuous string of scandals, wronged women, corrupt officials, bribery, associates on trial, people lying to investigators, people fleeing the country, and finally a disgusting list of pardons of low level crooks (a bunch of Arkansas used car dealers who were convicted of resetting odometers) and rich campaign contributors.

Nothing Hillary could and will do to win power should be a surprise.

I hope Obama's skin is flame-proof as well as black because that whole evil machine is going to be pointed at him soon. The lies, the private eyes, the synophants using code words. All of it is going to be used to try to bring him down.

I consider myself a conservative but see little reason to vote for another Republican after the disgusting behaviour of Bush and the Republican Congress on so many issues.

I pray for Obama every night because he looks like the only real hope to achieve some level of basic goodness and sanity in our politics.

If the Dems are foolish enough to nominate Hillary I will certainly vote for whoever the R's nominate. Evil can not be allowed to win, and Hillary is evil.

Re: Creative Resignations » Meshio.com- a Malaysia Personal Finance Blog

I work for job satisfaction. I left my previous job end of feb this year (n i still dont hv a job) because it just wasn't challenging enough and there wasn't enough demands to develop and improve. How is it a bad move for Blago to praise Palin and yet a good idea for Obama to involve himself with Sen. Nepotism Jones and Gov Press Release? Illinois has the politicians it deserves and we should leave the Democratic Presidential candidate out of this mess.

Re: Attention, all Illinois editors!

I was excited when I saw the headline b/c I thought we would finally get to see the $400K+ staffing study the Gov's office ordered of DOC facilities years ago. But that's not this study. That staffing study was never released ... presumably b/c it would have called for greater staffing levels. DOC hasn't wasted just $400K on a study, they've wasted over $800K on studies they disagree with or refuse to release. Bad or costly news is never discussed under Gov Press Release.

Re: This just in… Deputy Governor Resigns *** Senate convenes Monday at 5 ***

Bob is a smart guy but not always pleasant and he definitely drank the Kool-Aid by the gallons. He spent years as Filan's de facto enforcer and learned from his boss well. He intimidated and threatened people to get the job done as a GOMB staff person and deputy chief of staff. It appears he just continued that method of operating as a deputy governor. I find it difficult to admire a bully for his smarts.

Re: Breaking news open thread

The $1.4B certificate sale that was to be conducted today has apparently been delayed until Tues 12/16. You can see the updated addendum to the sale at munios.com.

Also, Bond Buyer is reporting that S&P has placed IL under negative watch. That means higher borrowing costs on the delayed certificate sale and future bond sales. This was likely coming someday, but was hastened by the charges against the Governor.

Re: Mrs. Blagojevich unemployed; Guv misses deadline; Feigenholtz video *** UPDATED x1 ***

Crazy to think a non-profit was paying her $100K. It's not my field, but a friend who is sent me several adds for positions as head of development in non-profits in Chicago and NY and not one listed a maximum salary above $60K. Many listed $30-40K as the range. Really?

I’d say politics continues to play a role in capitol allocations and CSU still gets a big chunk of cash. In addition, so does NEIU. I’d never heard of NEIU until the past couple of months. Now I wonder, is it a coincidence that the OMB Director Ostro is married to an NEIU finance dept honcho and they’re a top earner in the Gov’s capitol proposal? Take a look at this comparison of Quinn’s capitol proposal and 2007 fall enrollments I got from IBHE website:

University	07 Enroll	Per Capita/Quinn Proposed
WIU 13,331 $7,352
CSU 6,810 $7,165
NEIU 11,644 $7,162
SIU 34,381 $4,872
GSU 5,692 $4,415
U of I 72,928 $3,707
ISU 20,274 $3,212
NIU 25,254 $1,472
EIU 12,179 $1,065

Analysis is quick back of the envelope, but the figures are still revealing. What this says to me is Quinn believes the most important institutions and those most in need are by far and away WIU, CSU and NEIU. NIU and EIU? Not so much. And how did he reach that conclusion? It would appear the fingerprints of Blago’s people are all over that capitol proposal and Quinn hasn’t changed a thing. Someone really needs to question how staff arrived at these recommended amounts. My guess is he’s never questioned his (Blago’s) staff on capitol.

Re: Chicago State U decries politics?
