Releasing a buggy version just for the sake of making a date is never a good decision. It hurts you in the long run.

If you look at the statistics of problems above you also must taken into account that the average Linux user is a far more technical user than a windows or mac users. This means that when they were able to install with a few minor problems the average windows or mac user would find these bigger problems.

Doing a release like this just pushes away more people who might consider trying it.

I am just so disappointed after being so happy with the 9.04 release. Definitely a step backward!

Re: Karmic Koala displays bad karma

I too had problems with sound on the 9.10 install. Very disappointing to find a bug that caused it and that it was released with the known bug. The whole OSS, ALSA, PulseAudio sound fiasco is pretty bad. Shows the down side of open source and many alternatives.

Releasing every 6 months is more important than quality???? This is no way to try and build a following.

Even got me looking at going back to OpenSuse for my Linux Boxes.

Re: My Upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty

I have to agree that logging in with root is unwise. I have worked with systems for many years and only windows requires you to be an administrator to function properly. I started with Xenix well over over 20 years ago and have worked on many .nix systems and I have never found it necessary to be logged on as root.

But the bottom line is that it is your system, you are the king and the king gets to do as he pleases :)

Re: McCain/Palin Supporters Dissected

I'm a Libertarian so I didn't support McCain or Palin and I agree with you on most of your points. Those are generally people that may shine in those corporate environments but are at loss when they dont have a working established product, a prestigious company name, and a large amount of staff to do coffee, buy flight tickets, organize schedule, do some graphics, do some slides...etc...

These profiles I would argue may be suitable when the startup is no more a startup but a well established company with an established product and arrays of customers (or users), and they would take it even further to the next level. Otherwise, those guys are the type of people that will make your startup die, as they are far from appropriate for the product definition phase and are a huge liability.

Re: What Counts As “Criminal” Speech?

The right way to do this is for a V-chip to de-scramble adult content, rather than block it. Then everything even remotely controversial could be scrambled. An adult wanting entertainment for adults could turn on the descrambling chip. If you have kids, you leave it off, and half your TV programs are scrambled. Old TV sets would get scrambled content. If you want adult stuff, buy a new TV, or a descrambler box.

The scrambled content could be rated as to reason -- language, sex, violence, etc., and the box could selectively descramble. This would be the perfect solution for adults -- they would just switch the box on all the way, and get uncensored content. And if they turn off the box, the TV is safe for the kiddies (if boring!)

Do you suppose a government would ever take this approach?

Re: National ID sneaked through

So is it going to be illegal for me to demagnetize this thing, or zap it for a few seconds in the microwave to fry any chips in it?

Re: L’enfant aux 4 ultraportables !!! - By Pierre Lecourt - eeepc, MSI WIND U100 - Blogeee.net
