Went to see it in 79 (16yrs old ) at that time had a Kraut parka wae badges and all that shite, was educated that day in 79,had a fishtail by the end of the week.Went to see it twice that day. Must be honest and say I have never seen any mistakes in it though.

Charlie, maybe I was being a wee bit too serious, my knowledge of the Mod scene in 87 is nil, ergo my ignorance of what was happening in Brooks & the RA's at that time. I am not trying to rain on anyones parade, Modism as the quote goes is " an anachronism for clean living in difficult times " this could apply to anytime , 79 or 87.
I can only talk from what I experienced and that was that 79-83 when there were a lot of Mods around, granted that a lot of them were states and could only loosley be called Mods, but the numbers did give the Mod scene a significant precence at that time. Wether the quality of Mod in 87 was better in the late 80s I dont know.I can recall well known Mods getting into the New Romantic pish in the early 80s but to my mind they were no loss to the Mod scene, hey we all tried a wee bit of eyeliner.

NGMods re memorabilia , when I find it.
As for the RA's if mod were using it up till it shut they must have been dressing up as old men as thats all |I ever saw in there.
I accept that your point that there were still mods about in the late 80s( fuck there are still some kicking about now ) but you have to admit that after 83 it was dead on its arse.I was only 20 in 83 and for a number of years still regarded myself as a mod but the magic wasnt there anymore ( by magic I mean the feeling you got whenn you walked in the doors of the Scene on a jumpin Saturday night or getting up at 5 in the morning on bank holiday weekend to scoot off to some seaside town or just knowing if you turn up at the bandstand any night of the week you would meet up with some like minded people.
I have seen some other posts regarding what were the credentials for being a Mod, some say it was having a scooter or good clobber or the right attitude the fact was it was a combination of all 3. There were times when I was a Mod pedestrian, but I must say, apart from when I was in the Scene on Saturday night, the the times I felt more of a Mod was when I was togged up too the nines sitting on my Scoot, feet at 45 posing like fuck.Talk of Minis and Aston Martins is pish, the mode of transport for a mod was a scooter otherwise you would just have been another one of the millions with a car.I would accept that when the Mod scene was at its peak ( 80 - 83 ) alot of good mods were too young to aquire a scoot or afford but in my opinion the credentials for calling yourself a mod at that time were what they were.
Need to now ma pinkies are aw sore way aw this typing.

KC re brooks bar, I accept the fact that you DJed at Brooks and that it was a "mod night" but there could not hve been any mods there as there was no real mods about in 88, the mod scene was well finished by then.
As for the R.Attillary Club, Iwas a member throughout the 80s ( until the old cunts barred me ) the only Mod I ever met in there was my uncle, who was a Mod in the 60s.

hi i have just got round to reading these comments about the polish club and a comment by lambretago125 has angered me and i feel i need to comment you say there was no real mods in glasgow in 88 bullshit there was more real mods in glasgow at that time than there was in 79/81 period .once all the handbaggers and hangers on moved on to the next fad others like myself ,jim, casey ,mikey ,charlie etc carried on and made the scene in glasgow more vibrant than before because to us it was a way of life and still is your comment just belittlles the memory of the great mods that i remember who carried the faith forward in very difficult circumstances when it would have been easier to throw in the towel and lead a normal life .i dont have a personal beef with you or anyone else but to say that there where no real mods and the scene was dead just made me angry

No chance of that Chris, the boy that got nipped stuck me in at the time, and as I said never even got a toggle for my handle bars out of it.
By the way, I also rattled the scooter centre, not talking about that 1 though.

KC I was never out of Brooks in 88 and dont remember any Mod nights down the stairs, the pub by this time was owned by a relative of mine and and was just used for celebrating success by the hoops.

I have seen some posts referring to Ayr 1980, Iwasnot at Ayr that day I was tanning wee MIckeys shop.Had bought my first scooter of him about 6 months earlier,a nice Lambretta GP 125, £163.But had been pumped from my job so could not afford to do it up, nver mind tax n insure it. So myself and a couple of other boys tanned the shop, got alot of chrome, also got a chase from plod and had to ditch afore said chrome. One of the boys got nipped & because he was from the same area as me wee Mickey put 2 n2 together and assumed I was involved. I went into the shop later that week and bluffed my way out of it and we all lived happily everafter.
The wee cunt robbed me on the price of my scooter so I was due some recompense wasnt I. Might have been 81.

Brooks Bar was first used by myself and John McQuillan we also used the Avalon round the corner.
John and myself got some other Mods drinking in the Avalon first, this would be in 81 , wass, chas, bobby black and so on, being of an age were it was not easy to get served in pubs a lot of other mods probably chanced there arm in the Avalon.
So to answer your question about Brooks, it was not a far step to move from the Avalon to Brooks, geographicly anyway. But I assume the time your talking about is when the EEM were using it, that occurred when John, who by this time was hanging about with the EEM, introduced them to Brooks. The owner John McDonald obviously spotted a good earner and encouraged the Mod nights
but his pub got kind of took over by the EEM. this would be late 81,82.
I myself never used it as much at that time .
My best night in it was in 88 , The Centenary Season, that was a good night.
My memory of these time is not always the best so if anybody has a different recollection of Brooks, Im sure it didnt Have an e in it, then let me know.
The avalon was far better as it had a jukebox with some right old shite on it.
