in Spud And Chloë: A New Pattern And A Contest on The Hook and I
How wonderful that they asked you to design a CROCHET pattern for this new yarn. I sometimes print out the photo of a piece in black and white and decide what colors it suggests to me. The shape, the stitch pattern, or whatever color might look good in that style -- or whatever color I'm thinking of at the moment.

Why are the comments duplicated both down the left side and down the right side?
Overkill, overkill. PS the Swedish Chef is Annette, right? ;-)

Kim Werker The comments on the right are mostly for show on the homepage; it's just
showing where the conversation's at.

in On Editing: Style on Kim Werker Blog
Yes, this is satisfying! Thank you for discussing it. Good copyediting makes the magazine look professional. Punctuation, used accurately, helps express the tone and even the body language. That's strange about "ravel"; the first definition in my dictionary says "to separate or undo the texture of: UNRAVEL." Suggesting that "unravel" is preferable. ?? P.S. How did you adjust to Canadian (British) spelling? ;-)

Thanks, Kim, this is terrific. Great conversation with Mary Beth, too. (For more on color, check out the great interview by Kelly Petkun with Margaret Hubert on the KnitPicks podcast.)
What also stood out to me from your first post was how your motivation to be The Editor was present all along. Some of us are designers, some are copy editors, tech editors, graphics people, and focus happily on one part of it, but you as The Editor have the overall view -- and the mindset.

Hooray for talking about your editing process. I'm curious that you don't mention a submission review panel; do you make the accept or reject decision by yourself? Are you the only contact with the people submitting work? How do you stay ahead of trends, in styles as well as in yarns? I love the last paragraph; it echoes what happens in academic publishing -- except there's no "revise and resubmit."
