Any successful person knows that you have to listen more than you talk or you won't learn anything new. You won't ever have anything to contribute because you're not taking anything in.

I definitely appreciate your comment, Monica :)

Re: Cross-Posting Etiquette: A Few Ways To Stay Connected

Thanks for the comment, Jesse :)

The whole discussion about this Identi.ca->Twitter bridge has really had me thinking about my own micro-blogging strategy again.

I like the fact that you want to make people aware of where you're posting from. I also appreciate your interest in getting replies.

My only gripe with the bridge is that I may see fragments of conversation that I can't reliably follow, but I guess that's not a big deal.

It seems that most of us just want to have interesting conversation wherever we can find it. Ping.fm is one way and a bridge between services is another.

I am not going to be "that guy" telling people the rules for the tools. Although, I will definitely continue to make strong suggestions on occasion :)

Rahsheens last blog post..Are You Financially Fit? That is probably the only part that gave me issues initially.

Second thing you wanna try is "telnet localhost 1099" and see if you get a connection to GMail.

You should get a response like "220-mx.google.com ESMTP..." and then a prompt. That means stunnel is working just fine.

If you don't get that connection, disable all security/firewall stuff and try it again.

I know some of this is basic, but it's necessary so that we're on the same page :)

Also, we may get a more useful error message from "telnet" than we're getting from stunnel.

Re: Remember The Milk: Posting Directly from Your Desktop

Wulf, "telnet 127.0.0.1 1099" should give you the output above. If not, stunnel isn't running properly or is running on the wrong port. Or, there is some software that is blocking the port.

Rahsheens last blog post..Don’t Call Me, I’ll Call You…Maybe

Re: Andy DeSoto » Maintenance Mode

I also find it crazy to try and keep up with all the things required as a blogger, but there are a few tools that can help you keep your head above water.

1. Ping.fm allows you to keep your followers up-to-date across multiple services (status messages and full-blown blog posts)

2. FriendFeed will help you to stay on top of the latest news if you don't really have time to catch up on Google Reader. Try doing a search for "service:blog" or "service:googlereader".

3. Leading off with reading is a great tip because this naturally leads you into commenting on other blogs, stumbling, Digg'ing, bookmarking, etc..

Re: http://www.andydesoto.com/commentary/cross-posting-saving-time-at-the-expense-of-others/

Great article! After I did my post, I started noticing a lot of cross-posting abuse and I was actually going to do a follow-up on etiquette. Now there is no need :)

It's very annoying to see people @'ing their Twitter followers on Identi.ca, for instance. It's also frustrating to find that these people never respond, or respond on the wrong service.

Oh, and I'm glad you enjoyed my piece. I didn't read something somewhere else and then say it in my own words, I took it and flipped it in a totally different way. These posts were mostly based on my ability to talk about things I created outside of blogging.

The only thing that separates us from other people are the things we do that they can't, won't or haven't gotten around to. I agree that video and other types of media may help you to feel like more of a creator, this is one of the reasons I started doing music talking about things out of the blogosphere.

Seems like the more tools you have at your disposal (and can actually use), the less boring you will be to yourself and your audience.

Re: Social Messaging Communicators: Ping.fm versus HelloTxt.com

Great post!
