Wulf, "telnet 127.0.0.1 1099" should give you the output above. If not, stunnel isn't running properly or is running on the wrong port. Or, there is some software that is blocking the port.

Hey, Wulf.
First thing is to check and double check your stunnel config file. That is probably the only part that gave me issues initially.
Second thing you wanna try is "telnet localhost 1099" and see if you get a connection to GMail.
You should get a response like "220-mx.google.com ESMTP..." and then a prompt. That means stunnel is working just fine.
If you don't get that connection, disable all security/firewall stuff and try it again.
I know some of this is basic, but it's necessary so that we're on the same page :)
Also, we may get a more useful error message from "telnet" than we're getting from stunnel.

in 5 Ways to Use Ubiquity for Getting Things Done | SheenOnline on Sheen Online
Kelly and Leslie, I didn't notice any Firefox instability, but the plugin itself did have some bugs. It's still not perfect, but it appears to be getting regular updates. I think it depends a lot on what add-ons you have installed.
Micah, thanks for the link. I'm always looking for new commands to make Ubiquity more useful. Hopefully, I'll be creating some of my own soon.
Thank you all for your input!

Glad you guys are enjoying the script ;)
Joseph, shouldn't make any difference in your mem usage at all. Whenever you navigate away from the "tab", it's gone for good until next time.

I really enjoyed this post. The Like feature is so simple that a lot of people miss the power of it.
One thing I'd like to add is that, if you'd like to take the Bookmarking nature of Like's a step further, you want the Read Later Greasemonkey script. It lives here: http://ffapps.com/readlater

Thanks for the comment, Jesse :)
The whole discussion about this Identi.ca->Twitter bridge has really had me thinking about my own micro-blogging strategy again.
I like the fact that you want to make people aware of where you're posting from. I also appreciate your interest in getting replies.
My only gripe with the bridge is that I may see fragments of conversation that I can't reliably follow, but I guess that's not a big deal.
It seems that most of us just want to have interesting conversation wherever we can find it. Ping.fm is one way and a bridge between services is another.
I am not going to be "that guy" telling people the rules for the tools. Although, I will definitely continue to make strong suggestions on occasion :)

in You want fries with that website? « My Thoughts On Social Media on Social Media Marketing Strategies
I think the main reason I fell into this trap is that I was stuck, so I went with the quickest and most affordable switch I could. My old host would actually go down reliably throughout the day. As you already know, Michael, I made the wrong choice :)
You're definitely right about the branding with GoDaddy. I still have no idea what hosting companies are garbage and which are not. I'm not even sure how to research this reliably as users may fudge their opinions because they are part of affiliate programs and things like that.
If there is a reliable way to sort this out, somebody please let me know :)

That's my attitude as well. Any successful person knows that you have to listen more than you talk or you won't learn anything new. You won't ever have anything to contribute because you're not taking anything in.
I definitely appreciate your comment, Monica :)

Awesome, thanks for the tip, Bruce. I used to use Pidgin in Linux, now I use it in XP, but I don't think it does half what you just listed.
Thanks, Michael! I really appreciate your appreciation :)

Definitely agree here. I have no problem reading a relatively long blog post if the content is interesting. I can't stand receiving a long email.
I don't want to spend all day in my inbox. Maybe this is because the GTD side of me is too busy focusing on emptying that inbox. When I come across a long email, it's like a speed bump.

You bring up some good points here, Andy.
The most popular content on my blog is stuff that is, for the most part, original and specific to me. I didn't read something somewhere else and then say it in my own words, I took it and flipped it in a totally different way. These posts were mostly based on my ability to talk about things I created outside of blogging.
The only thing that separates us from other people are the things we do that they can't, won't or haven't gotten around to. I agree that video and other types of media may help you to feel like more of a creator, this is one of the reasons I started doing music talking about things out of the blogosphere.
Seems like the more tools you have at your disposal (and can actually use), the less boring you will be to yourself and your audience.

in Why Exercise When You Can Take a Pill? on Marina's Musings
It doesn't matter how far science goes. You can never reap exercise benefits without exercise.
Just like with anything else in life, you just can't get something for nothing.
Lipo, diet pills, even people who go so far as to get gastric bypass can't succeed without actually doing real work.

If we don't make it clear what does NOT work for us, we will have a heck of a time trying to figure out what does.
I gave Plurk a fair shake and ran into the same things you did, Chris. Trying is all you can do. Everything is not one-size-fits-all.

Great article! After I did my post, I started noticing a lot of cross-posting abuse and I was actually going to do a follow-up on etiquette. Now there is no need :)
It's very annoying to see people @'ing their Twitter followers on Identi.ca, for instance. It's also frustrating to find that these people never respond, or respond on the wrong service.
Oh, and I'm glad you enjoyed my piece. It's always good to know *someone* is paying attention :)

I also find it crazy to try and keep up with all the things required as a blogger, but there are a few tools that can help you keep your head above water.
1. Ping.fm allows you to keep your followers up-to-date across multiple services (status messages and full-blown blog posts)
2. FriendFeed will help you to stay on top of the latest news if you don't really have time to catch up on Google Reader. Try doing a search for "service:blog" or "service:googlereader".
3. Leading off with reading is a great tip because this naturally leads you into commenting on other blogs, stumbling, Digg'ing, bookmarking, etc..

in BlogCatalog- A Social Network for Bloggers on Chris Brogan
I have an account with BC and also an account with MyBlogLog. I really don't understand how to use either one. I can see the potential in being able to network with other bloggers, but I don't really see how to leverage that.
I get a lot of Broadcasts (spam?) from BC from people who want me to check out their blogs and MyBlogLog is pretty silent for the most part.
I think it goes back to what Chris says. It's hard to find stuff on these sites that I want to engage in without doing some digging and I'm just not sure if it's worth it.

in Is Being A Stay-At-Home Dad Manly? on Art of Manliness
This all depends. Are you a single dad? Do you work from home? I would say the only instance where this is not manly is if you are just a lazy guy.
