My mum used to record Neighbors onto cassette (pre-VCR), pausing for commercials, and listen to them the next day. That died a death soon after she pressed pause one too many times, recorded all the commercials, and none of the show.

in Ep 158: Eureka, Top Gear Australia and a Postcard on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
I like Eureka. The first season was very good, and you can play a quick game at the start of each episode of 'spot the plot source' (which book/film/idea they've taken this week's story from). Kind of a nerdy version of spot the pop culture reference.

The second season was a bit less so, but had a better story arc, and the third looked like they were getting desperate for a good plot line. I had the same thoughts about Dark Angel.

Top Gear Australia is taking too long to develop its own personality. The hosts try to emulate Clarkson &co, but don't seem to believe even their own rants, and some of the segments in the first season were, to use their phrase "what were they thinking?" It's OK, but it can only get better.

in Ep 157: My Own Worst Enemy, The Worst TV We’ve Ever Seen on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
I never know why people make up these 'worst of' lists, especially of TV shows when you can flick channels so easily. Do you mean TV shows that are so popular you wonder to yourself why you Just Don't Like it?

That said, I nominate The Office and Little Britain as the shows that I tried to like but just couldn't.

in Ep 144: Olympics, Hole in the Wall, Neighbours, Chicken Ads, with Gerard McCulloch on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Having saturation broadcasting of the Olympics is great. It's the only chance in the past four years that commercial TV bothers to broadcast any sport other than the usual four (golf, tennis, football, cricket).

Hooray for SBS, who at least have an idea that we might be interested in games other than the above, or played between teams who aren't Australian.

I'm TiVo'ing the lot, and playing back hours at 90 times speed, just to get to the minutes of coverage of sports only ever seen on TV during the Olympics.

I've been using my (oz)TiVo for the past several years. The user interface for the TiVo is the best so far, and is still held as the standard against which others are judged. The fast forward is intelligent, you can tell it to save only the latest xx episodes of a show, or record only first-run episodes. The best (at last non-unique?) is that you can tell it to record a show by name, wherever they move it to, rather than specifying this channel, that time, and to start recording xx minutes before the start, and yy minutes after the end, to catch the time slips that especially Channel Ten thinks is mandatory.

I hope that the official TiVo hasn't taken away too much of what makes them the best.

To all those people complaining about commercials. Do what I do. Press fast forward! It's been years since I've had to endure a commercial break.

I love that Naked News line. The office wondered what I was laughing at.

When you were talking about pitbull fighting, I kept thinking Kingswood Country. I think I've seen too much comedy....

Re: Coulthard's comment: They replayed the 'seven kinds of shit' comment on the Ten News after, so they can't have been too annoyed about it. I did note that they snipped the 'if he doesn't apologise' bit on the replay.

There have been several incarnations of The Stig so far (according to the Wiki), so it's not out of the question that the Grand Prix winner might also be The Stig.
