Naked shorting without intent to borrow has always been illegal. They should clarify the rules and remove things like 'intent'.

UCR/DCR is definitely interesting if oil can hold this level. Given the weakness in the US economy, that's not trivial.

The earnings miss was surprising but its the breadth of weakness. Almost everything outside of NBCU and Infrastructure was weak. The US economic is definitely screwed up. I wouldn't bet against GE given the low multiple on trough earnings.

By all means a cool new tool, but not innovative per se. It's essentially a RSS reader. It's nice for those who are too lazy to configure their own feeds.

Market seems to be less disappointed than I expected. $SPX is only down 15.

CPI numbers were amazingly good and the markets were doing well until Bear collapsed. I am not sure the Fed would cut 75 bps. I think they need to focus on rescuing Bear and others out there. Don't forget that TMA is still on life support.

If you really believe in $120 / barrel oil, then you should definitely look into UCR/DCR arbitrage. Short DCR.

Did I just read that you advocate borrowing to 'invest'? This is the worst idea ever. First, you are borrowing on a recourse line that cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. Second, you are telling unexperienced poor people to invest money. The reason they don't have any money is because they can't manage it. This is the path to ruin.
Yes, student loan lines and 0% APR credit cards provide a low cost of capital. Unless you a proven track record and a risk management plan, don't play with leverage. Borrowing is leverage.

Definitely setup a trading system. I was inspired by A Trade A Day to write mine up (A naked put selling focused options trading strategy explained). It has helped with my thinking process a great deal.

I added to SIRF and WB in the aftermath (Added delta to SIRF and WB amid market freefall). SIRF is doing ok; WB less so.
