in Travel Honey Vous Aide A Retrouver Votre Voiture on Ubergizmo France

in The Case Against Everything Buckets on Jonathan Buys
Those everything buckets are fun, but you are locked into the model envisioned by the developer. And now I'm also back to the plain old file system.

in The Nice Guy Paradox [Solved] on danielmiessler.com | grep understanding
Dating isn't rocket science:

- Women are most attracted to confidence and humor.
- Physical appearance isn't as important as it is to men, though you have to be clean and well kept.
- Niceness usually translates to neediness or a push-over. Just treat a woman like you would any other friend.

in Why It’s Sometimes Immoral To Treat The Poor and Uneducated As Equals (A Libertarian Essay) on danielmiessler.com | grep understanding
"I’ve seen a 20-something guy (who was able to walk on his own and was obviously able to lift 40 pounds) purchase 2 liters of soda, a whole fried chicken, and a carton of cigarettes with food stamps."

You can't purchase cigarettes or cooked meat with food stamps.

in The List Of Shame: Websites That Don’t Allow Special Characters In Their Passwords on dmiessler.com | grep understanding
"Becareful of taking a holier than thou attitude, while you can use special characters in reddit, they are stored plain text in their database despite the fact that their backups containing the passwords were stolen from the back of a van a few months ago."

I believe you are mistaken. After they lost the backups and everyone yelled at them they implemented password hashing.

This annoys me also. I get angry when sites don't even allow spaces or punctuation. I use phrases (around 3 or 4 words) for my passwords since they are easy to remember. The length also makes dictionary attacks infeasible, so I can use regular words.

in A Logical Approach To Gun Laws on dmiessler.com | grep understanding
"Perhaps they could get a certificate from a psychologist certifying that the person is mentally fit to own a fire arm and show it at the gun shop before he is allowed to buy a gun."

That would be nice, but I don't know how successful it would be. The guy in the VT shootings had been to a psychologist and issued a clean bill of health. He also could have easily taken someone else's gun or obtain a gun in some illegal manner. If he couldn't get a gun, he would have used explosives, knives, or something else.

in OpenBSD’s Amusing Handling Of Remote Kernel Overflow on Matasano Chargen
OpenBSD has avoided the term "vulnerability" for some time. Distinguishing between a denial of service and a remote exploit is important. "Vulnerability" is too vague.

That being said, I personally consider a ping of death a "vulnerability".
