in Macbook Air: Perpetuating the myth on BabyGotMac
AM: it's one heck of an expensive accessory, which is kind of my point: spending way too much for way too little gives credence to the elitist view of Mac users.

I'll be frank: if I had the extra money for something like this, I'd like to have it. But if it's just for casual use, I'm perfectly happy with my EEE and the extra cash.

in Leopard 10.5.2, Airport EXTREME and Time Machine on BabyGotMac
Hi Mattyohe.

I'll have to check on another machine tonight, but I seem to recall that the only way to backup to a shared drive is with a hack (either this line: defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 or a method like this one: http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2007/10/12595/ ).

Again, not positive and can't test right now, but it almost certainly doesn't work 'out of the box'. Are you sure you didn't use an app like iTimeMachine at some point?

in Leopard 10.5.2, Airport EXTREME and Time Machine on BabyGotMac

Did you try doing the first backup locally and then hooking the machine up via the network share (Airport Extreme) to do subsequent backups?

Yes, with no success.

I’ve been using Time Machine with my AirDisk via the Terminal hack smoothly for a few months now. Like on your machine it began by creating a sparse disk image in the root directory of the AirDisk (named by my computer’s shared name and its AirPort address). Yours seems to be failing at creating the disk image. Try fixing it by using Disk Utility to manually create a sparse disk image named sm_001b63b0891d.sparsebundle on the drive before selecting it as your backup volume.

Hmm. Interesting, I'll give that a shot and report back.

don’t you think they just did this on purpose to sell time capsule to people who already have airport extremes? If it works with time capsule, I see no reason why it shouldn’t work with airport extreme.

I do think it was some clever marketing to make Time Capsule seem more attractive. They underestimate the Mac nerd market though.
:)

“perhaps we’ll see the ability to use Time Machine with network/Airport disks”

Are you implying that network Time Machine backups are not working properly in 10.5.2? Or just that Air Disks still do not work?

Both?

in Leopard 10.5.2 update adds DVD sharing, better Stacks, translucent Menu bar and remote backup! on BabyGotMac

Anyone been able to verify Time Machine support for network drives? MacRumors is saying it ain’t necessarily so …

Please see the second and fourth screenshots, above.

Must have named it that out of habit when I got it, sorry.

Why is the graphic of the Airport Express actually an Airport Extreme?

Not yet...haven't had too much time since to mess with it.

Don't let it detract you from getting one though - they are awesome little machines.

Yep, take it to your local Apple store -- the repair takes no time at all.

in Parallels - a waste of space? on BabyGotMac

The bad part is a corrupt Windows requires a complete reinstall, unlike copying the VM file over.

The other bad part being that it requires actual hard drive space, instead of compressed. An 80gb VM only takes 20gb of Mac space, as opposed to an actual 80gb for BootCamp.
:)
Not to mention you lose the functionality to write to the Mac side from Windows (unless you use a 3rd party app).

Oh, I was just saying that it really is nice, not at all cheesy. The colors look SO good on the white. It's surprisingly high quality!

in Bizarre post-Leopard Macbook problem on BabyGotMac
Other than the jump from 10.4.6 to 10.4.8, I don't know. What's really frustrating is that if I hadn't had the other Macbook disc set handy, I'd have been out of luck...

in Weekend Quickie: 3 Tips and tricks to manage your Mac on BabyGotMac
Ah, but when you use the screen saver hot corner, you have about 1.5 seconds after it starts to 'undo' it, so an accidental corner move can quickly be nullified.

And clicking the menubar item for Keychain access voids the 'without clicking anything' concept!
;)

Good tip though, thanks.

A couple of ideas I had:
*A spring with a happy Mac face, somehow...
*Dual iMacs (G3 style) with a happy Mac guy standing atop them (think Baby Got Back video...), like this:
