This is an amazing article, and I agree with everything you say. I'm a web programmer and sometimes fall into the trap of over analyzing things. It's alot easier on my part in programming if a site is simplified, and also on the users side. I have to keep reminding myself that I just need the follow the basics, and the rest will follow.
I did some data mining with Yslow on the Alexa's top 10 websites to see how each one ranked. The results are posted on my signature link, check it out. You wouldn't be surprised whose at the top, hint. Google, but you might be surprised at the low grades of some high profile websites.
I love your post and agree that DoFollow entices users to leave constructive comment by giving them a much better incentive. If you want even more incentive, check out my DoFollow Search Tool that lets you search only websites that have the DoFollow enabled, this means that you can search for your targeted keywords, and only DoFollow sites will show up, so you can get extreme link juice.
