Guitarist John Squire painted all the Stone Roses disc covers and now he's retired from music and focuses on his art career.
I also illustrated the disc cover for "More Needful Things", from my band, World Racketeering Squad:

This sounds like awesome news. I think you might mean "choreographer" Hinton Battle.
Battle is a veteran choreographer and dancer on Broadway, who also played the dancing demon in Buffy's "Once More With Feeling", and who choreographed the stage version of "Evil Dead: The Musical".

I agree with TheLoneIguana.
What was "the point" of making Raiders of the Lost Ark? Or Star Wars? "It might be fun." What's, really, the point of an adventure movie beyond having fun?

Allen Quatermain was created in 1885 by H. Rider Haggard in his novel "King Solomon's Mines".
Perhaps the existence of those movies in the '80s was inspired by Indiana Jones, but I'm not sure it's accurate to call the character a "knockoff" considering Quatermain predates Jones by almost a hundred years.

Yeah, it was warm and summery a few days ago, but the weather projection for this week is cold and rainy. We're ready for Spring/Summer too.
Will you be going to the film panels? I'll be volunteering on that crew from Saturday til Tuesday.

Mike, that's an interesting take on it. I disagree, but there's not any "definitive" answer, so it's cool to think about.
I don't see Michael's desire to take the family "legit" as more than superficial. In the beginning, he SAYS that's what he's interested in, and it may be, for a while, but I see Michael's only goal as amassing power and more power, for its own sake.
I think that's what Part 2 was trying to convey, with the flashbacks where we see how well Vito becomes part of his community and helps the people in the neighborhood, becoming a beloved figure.
People loved Vito. Nobody loves Michael--they only fear him.
It's true that we don't necessarily see how Vito would have handled having a brother as weak as Fredo who betrayed him in that way, but throughout Part 2 especially we see Michael's obsession with eliminating his "enemies". Tom Hagen even tries to convince him to chill out about it, but he's obsessed with wiping out anyone and everyone who has wronged him or who ever could wrong him. I think he comes across as paranoid.
Just look at the differences in the family situations between the two men. Vito had the big loving family, wife who was loyal to him forever, lots of devoted children and a community of supporters who loved and admired him. Michael wouldn't even let his children see their mother and his ambition tore his family apart.

Oh, I agree. McCain is a terrible politician and a generally bad person, but his thoughts on movies were pretty cool, and much hipper than I would have expected.
I'd love to see a similar interview with Obama or Clinton, giving that much depth to the subject of movies. Or music, for that matter.

Peter--thanks for the references. You pointed out that McCain was the only one who mentioned recent movies. My guess it that if Clinton and Obama had the same kind of interview, specifically on movies, as Variety did with McCain, they would've mentioned some more current films.

Also:
"The rise to power, correcting the mistakes of the forefathers (Michael:Vito :: Obama:Presidents before)."
You might want to watch the movies again or re-think this analysis. Don Vito was an extremely successful Godfather in both financial AND family terms. His family was of paramount importance.
By those terms, Michael was a leader who made the crime family successful, but he was paranoid and almost singlehandedly destroyed and alienated his own family.
He killed his sister's husband, leaving his sister a bitter shell, he killed his own brother, he alienated his adopted brother Tom Hagen, he alienated and demonized his wife to the point where she aborted his baby rather than bring another Corleone into the world.
I've always felt that the true value of the lessons of Michael Corleone are as a warning against the dangers of paranoia and the value of family. I think Corleone's was a warning rather than an example.

Peter, what are your sources for this information?
I don't see a link to the source anywhere in the article, and Googling for the candidates and movie names either leads back here or to other blogs quoting this one.
Where'd you get these answers?

But then again, you're the guy who regularly complains about the "ruining" of the He-Man and GI Joe franchises by movies, as if those franchises had some original content or point beyond just selling toys to gullible kids that could be "ruined".
So, um.... yeah.

What do you mean, "read what you will" about Anthony Hopkins. The original had Claude Rains playing Lon Chaney's father, which is about as far-fetched.

Hunter--tell that to Peter! He's apparently got a deep, vested interest in the GI Joe and He-Man "mythologies" (his words).
It's funny to watch him pretending like those movies are worth caring about.
