in Is the American Dream of home ownership all wrong for us? on This is going to be BIG!
I almost want to post this anonymously but I'll resist. What about the social benefit to having a partner, in my case a wife, when she likely will want "roots". This anchor to one spot for a chunk of my life seems inevitable. Can't one's career grow if you're willing to travel a bit but still have a "home base" to return too?
Phenom post Charlie, I'll be using the second to last paragraph in a blog post about investing coming up.
Thanks.

in The Glue Community Gets What It Asks For on Steffan Antonas' Blog
Steffan,
You never disappoint. This is a phenom post and reflection on the new GLUE. I've really enjoyed the new features. Just this weekend I was hunting for movies to see with the lady and found that using my friends (Fraser's) recommendations a movie was very helpful!
Keep it up. Hope all is well!

in SlideFail: Making fun of yourself: Ok. Getting your users to embarrass themselves in front of their own networks: Not cool. on This is going to be BIG!
Charlie,
I received the same email, I assumed it was on a Credit Crisis deck that I did for a Slideshare competition a while back. I got top 20 in the comp so I figured, sure maybe it got all the hits.
No reading your post I realize the the tweet I sent out just made me look like a fool! And, like you, I'm not that amused by the whole thing. Pretty fuckin lame actually.
Slideshare really blew this. I've always been a loyal supporter, now I have a bad taste in my mouth.
Take care.
Ryan

Loic this is one of the functionality that we're really excited about in REACH. Luckily there is another level to ours that twitter hasn't done yet. Thanks for sharing this b/c I wasn't aware.

in The Psychology of Automation: Building a Bulletproof Personal-Finance System on The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss
I bought Ramit's book and have been taking some of the steps suggested towards automation.
If no money is saved over what I was already saving I will still be happy with the decision to follow Ramit's suggestions. The reason is that when you automate you allow yourself to achieve a peace of mind that will lead to increased productivity and confidence in your financial situation that manually transferring savings just will not allow.
Great post Tim.
Cheers,
Ryan

in Why Facebook’s Conceding the Redesign Battle to Win the War on Marketing Pilgrim
I think that Facebook is definitely going in the right direction. However, this time it seems as though they've copied Twitter a bit to closely and need to identify their own still before they are done with this iteration.
I completely agree with them moving towards a model that will fill the bank account. This will keep them around and thus continuing to iterate. Always a good thing.
I think you're on the right track here Andy. Facebook should be sensitive but not submissive to their users.
Nice post.
Ryan Graves's last blog post..Can Copycat-ing be a successful growth strategy?

Jenn- I totally agree. Last.fm takes the cake here for sure. Slacker also seems a bit to main stream, and you know those web folks don't adopt mainstream to easy.
Great post.

I think you'll be hard pressed to see Twitter going in this direction. They do platform well. They've focused on dependability and I think they're finally there. They will leave the Tweet__(insertnamehere)__.com applications figure out which features will be most popular.
However, I agree with FB, where the hell are they, definitely late to the race but they may launch a version that blows these other "cheezy" ones out of the water.

in If you are laid off, here’s how to socially network on Scobleizer
My sister is a perfect example. She was laid off 3-4 months back and starting hitting the social web hard. Picked up her blogging and tweeting, continued to meet for informational interviews and network hard. Then she got a job as the PR department for a high profile wealth manager in San Diego, Ray Lucia.
She's bloggin at http://taylorgraves.wordpress.com and really kicking ass. This is a super tough thing to have happen to someone recently out of college but by embracing the web and not running from what happened she learned a ton and came out on top with a great gig.
The social web is real and its valuable. Great post Scoble.

in Financial crisis, startup opportunity. NYC developers, join a startup! on Enter Venture
So- Is this going to make it ridiculously tough for those who want to get into a startup job but aren't coming from the NYC finance world? Do we think that the startup positions will be flooded with financial crisis "left-overs"?
Time will tell. Kopelman's site is awesome by the way. I love well timed/positions sites like that.

in Crazy Egg tells you what your users are doing on Enter Venture
I went to the Crazy Egg website and couldn't figure out how to get the 5 free trial? Any advice?

but from the other side. I was thinking that it might be harder for
me to meet someone (unless they're from Bay Ridge, no offense to girls
from the Ridge ;) ) living in Brooklyn. Perhaps I should be
looking for "roots planters".
