in How to get a job in 2009 on This is going to be BIG!
If you are unemployed, I would also recommend offering your specialized expertise for free to a nonprofit organization that can't afford to pay someone. For example, if you're a PR guru, write a press lease; if you're a social media geek, help them start a blog; if you crunch numbers, help them navigate an audit, etc. This is great way to add something to build up your resume (since you will have no trouble finding said work). It says you're actively "working" and that you care about community services. You'll also help a bootstrapped nonprofit make it through the down economy.

Big hug Nick! I know there's nothing to say that makes this any easier, but you should be proud of yourself for acting in such an honorable way as a result. Most of us are guilty of giving our time and attention to those things in life that are not the most imp. We work ridiculous hours and tell our loved ones "maybe later." It's crazy. I'm inspired by your decision and I hope to see you very soon!!

in I'm in a painting... well... sort of. on This is going to be BIG!
Charlie, it's kinda funny now that I've said out load that it looks like you, I think about you every time I look over Matt's shoulder from "my seat" at the dinner table at the painting that hangs directly behind "his seat." I guess he should be jealous. LOL

Looking forward to borrowing this from you soon. I hear about it everywhere I go, and most recently in relation to this post (I sat next to one of your co-workers at the Idea Festival tonight who commented on it).

For a visual person like myself, this is great way to get my hands around illness. Although I'm fearful it's another way for insurance companies to discriminate against customers and potential customers.

It's terribly selfish, but I couldn't care less about how it impacts the original retailer because I'm a 6' 0" tall woman. Whoever finds jeans that fit my long legs, gets my money (which for MyShape, is exactly what they're counting on).

Surely this news comes as a relief to future or expecting parents, but I do stand on the cautious side of the issue. As you mentioned, this stirs ethical issues (and not specifically about abortion). For those who have seen Gattaca in its entirety know that it's set against a backdrop of people so artificially designed and modified they hardly seem human. How far should we take it? Somewhere between stepping in to preventive down syndrome and creating a race of Frankensteins there is a line that shouldn't be crossed.

in Donuts and Flu Shots! on punctuative! by Matt Winn
All of a sudden it becomes controversial and slightly immoral. "We want you to be healthy, vibrant and flu-free this winter...even if we have to bribe you with caffeine and fried white dough coated in sugar." Is it worth the loss? Maybe you'd be less likely to catch the flu if your immune system wasn't already battling refined sugar-loaded junk and constant doses of caffeine.
