I have added this list to my favorites! I knew of a couple of these, but this list is huge. Thank you for the compilation. How long did it take to find all of these?

in Nautical Misnomers that drive me crazy | gCaptain.com on gCaptain
I like the over and out comment, and the incessant hailing! I hate to hear somebody called on the radio 700 times while they are not listening. I hear it on my marine radio, and my fire department radio too. All it does is get in the way of what really needs to be said.

Great Job GCaptain! I look forward to reading your blog everyday!

in indestructible usb flash drive on gCaptain
I like the idea of this drive. I have a 2GB Lexar "Firefly" USB flash drive that has been through my washing machine and dryer twice. I have dropped it and stepped on it too. The case is cracked (it is only plastic) and I have to watch that I do not split the two halves of the case (because it is hard to put back together), but the thing still works after being abused for two years now. I carry the thing with me EVERYWHERE (including into house fires while at work).

This was a very good article. Hopefully I will never have to fight a LNG fire, but I now have a little knowledge about something that I never knew existed. Thank you.

in ship graveyards - ghost ships at rest on gCaptain
This would be a neat place to go see. It is too bad that corrupt officials let people ruin the shoreline of their home, but I would love to see all of those old ships. One of the coolest things I remember doing as a child was seeing the "Mothball Fleet" of the US Navy when we visited Washington state to visit some relatives.

I love both of those ships. I am not a mariner (I have a pleasure boat, but I am not a professional). This story and video makes me want to take this course. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't mind cruising the Ohio River in one of these model ships.

Thank you for this story. I have heard of some of these events before (part of my duties include being on a water rescue team for our fire department) but had never heard of the Dorchester Rescue. That is a neat story and now I want to learn more about it. I am going to see if I can find more online or find anything about it in books. Thank you again. I am really glad I found your blog!

in Emma Maersk - From Shipyard Fire to the World Records on gCaptain
What a great story! I cannot imagine having to fight that fire. It looks like the fire streams being used are not even reaching the fire! There was a problem similar to this (although not on a ship) near us when the Goodyear Airdock caught fire about 1 1/2 years ago.

This is a very useful tool. I am a firefighter and always grab tis tool with a flat head ax when I dismount the apparatus. Very good video too! Thanks for posting it.
