How can I erase that video from my mind? OMG, like everyone on campus was playing my game. Ew. When I saw the header Girls in Tech I immediately thought it was going to be a video of some high techpreofessional women visiting a grade school or Jr. High trying to get young girls involved in and excited about technology. Maybe "girls" today see the word woman as aging? I don't get it and it's not as if I'm a hard core feminist but seriously, enough with the "girls". Can you imagine if Google or Yahoo put on a tech event and and called it Boys in Tech? Ew. Well, at least it's a step up from Girrrls.

8 out of 10, I agree with Chris that both Chase bank pages looked fake. Also I thought both Paypal emails looked bogus as their emails are usually poorly worded in general. I found it surprising how often grammar was used as a measure of whether or not a site is authentic. I see poor grammar on "real" sites all the time. I am pretty surprised at how much phishing has progressed over the last couple of years. Thanks for showing us the quiz, Steve :)

This is a great post! I haven't spent much time in SL but when I am there I usually try to visit places that I have read about in a book or on a blog. As soon as I finish this truly obnoxious algebra homework, I am going to the crooked house. Re commerce in SL, we once found the biggest lamp store I have ever seen in any life, ever. Funny.

I'm changing my middle name to Stumbled Upon. I'm finding that the traffic I get from a post that has been stumbled seems to be deeper traffic. The pages per view are 3x what the Digg reader will view. Man I love Google analytics. I love this article and yes, Top ten lists are so 2005. I agree with Heather re lurking and gathering confidence and knowledge and I am hesitant to dive into a comments thread that has any Type 2s hanging out. I haven't had any type 2s yet and honestly I'm afraid of them. B-list bloggers also have a tendency to suffer form kidney stones and Rackspact just got bought by Google.

I love Slide Share and have been tempted to put up some of my shows up from my 5 years with Netflix, but there's that really thick confidentiality agreement to consider. Smoosh. You see, that's it, that's one of the main reasons that I read your blog every day. Cruising along, reading interesting stuff, learning about new technologies and then bam, there it is: "smoosh". You rule.

Two questions:.

2) What's with the Steve Jobs' uniform? Is it part of his personal branding? Funny.

Did I mention that his first name is Bob? Doesn't get more generic than that. When we first started dating I totally tried to google him. Uh yeah, not so much.

It's true the site is pretty messed up right now. It's almost like they through UI out the window. The search results seem really confusing now as well. I'm hoping they will be fixing things here and there. The other night (really late) I was blogging and I went there for some reason and the entire site was a mess, all of the text was huge and the images weren't loading in the right places. A couple of hours later the site had the new look. So much for QA.

Ah! Is it wrong that this is one of the reasons for my decision not to change my last name when I got married last October? You see, my husband's last name is Page. When were dating we had that "we're getting kind of serious, what would we name our kids" conversation over Guinness (most of our important conversations involve Guinness), and he suggested Webster. After initially protesting on the grounds of "Ew, dorky!", I realized it was a joke. Poor little Web Page would never have a significant personal web presence. It's practically child abuse.

Thank you so much, this post is really helpful. I just added the plug in. I think your guidelines for comment moderation are very fair and I will be moderating in the same fashion. Do you use Akismet for your spam filtering? I use it and I love it! I especially enjoy seeing the tally of how many spam emails have been "caught". Nope, not geeky at all. Oh and I really do love your blog. I joined your community:)
