I'm new to your blog and am enjoying your direct style and confidence.

Re: Money Magazine: No Fees? Get It in Writing!

Great call - getting it in writing means at least some degree of protection. Fee options for planners range far & wide e.g. fee-only per product sold or an annual fee based on your assets or wrap fees where management fees + annual percentages + fee-based amounts are rolled into one charge ... or hourly charges or annual retainers. So when an adviser says they won't charge, confirming it in writing is a sharp move, since the fee discussion may not be as face-value or overt as one would hope. I think I'll videoblog on this further! Thx for these posts.

Re: I’m Not A Women, Or Gay, But I Have Opinions

Hi Jim - Fun, useful site! And I noticed your comment on Amit's site for the beautiful-women-bloggers bit. Indeed, it was irksome considering the Net creates a content-driven democratic forum like no other medium in history. But alas, who really in the end wants to be strapped with PC-ness as you stated above. None of which stopped my attempt to playfully jab back at these sexist antics though. Fyi here: http://livingwithgeeks.wordpress.com/2006/12/26...

Happiest of New Years to you and yours. -Jill F.

Re: A Sad State of Affairs

Thanks for this.

And it brings this question to mind (...one that's a bit large and general but it won't abate): What stirs people - crowds of people I assume in this case - to misdirect their anger so publicly?

Is it the influence of crowds on the individual? Have these groups of people lost loved ones in Iraq? I'm not trying to force a devil's advocacy here at all. I'm just mentally grasping at straws on how such anger can be slung at the innocent so willingly.

Do they want to feel like they are asserting their power as citizens...despite their assertions being misguided and ignorant?

So my one question turned into a slate of rhetorical ones. I'm not looking for one particular answer at all. It just feels disappointing and desperate for service men and women to suffer in this way. It's frustrating to try and process.

Re: Rohit Bhargava Talks Personlity on the Par-Tay

Holy Smokes! - thanks for all the fantastic media and support for the event. I really liked your four tips on monitoring one's brand because they're basic and accessible steps. I'm a very small shop and sometimes cultivating a brand and marketing in general overwhelm. But your steps provide a great place to focus. I especially like "thank people for talking about your product." That's a neighborly attitude (...from Oklahoma originally so neighborly stuff stands out).

Thx for the great posts!

Re: Friday Self-Promotions Are Powerful

Great experiment Joe. It is however another way to reach & convene people. And in my experience, many folks I've met via online networks have been action-driven: canvasing for their presidential candidate; raising funds for causes; and educating themselves more on how to better help their clients (and families). Darned exciting.

Re: Things I learned

Your observations make the whole running-for-president experience more human, exhausting and complex, but human. Thx for that. After reading your most recent thoughts after getting back, I'm kind of humbled. Whatever passion I have for citizen journalism and the blogosphere would've crapped-out in the first morning of your first day - if in your shoes (or Edwards'). Congrats on sticking your neck out.

Re: Ed Cone, combo of politics, tech, community

The ConvergeSouth friendliness, the banana pudding, the conversations...it's all de-lish! In between editing/posting footage - I've linked to some of your stuff to at least keep conversational. So thanks for posting the volume that you do!

Re: Introducing “Cooking with Geeks”

AWESOME! "Living with Geeks" will ping! A few of the geek couples I've interviewed were wine enthusiasts (and they'd share some vino with the ever grateful interviewer while explaining where they found 'that year' etc) but none of them cooked a meal! Love it, love it.

Re: Thanks so much for all the kind words…

SO WONDERFUL! You, Sue, and the Greensboro gang created something great. I learned a lot on bloggerland and on good, new friends. Next year? Count me in! Since I'm in film, I don't know what the heck your blog says but shall keep in contact with it (and refer it to my IT spouse). Thx for the heads-up on Gun X Sword. And many of the folks interviewed for Living w/ Geeks include these in their collections. It's a club or something...You didn't look too tipsy in that clip - rather just hypnotized from all the ConvergeSouth greatness! :) Hope all is well.

Re: Making it look easy.. practicing the art of visual storytelling

Thanks for posting this and for your VON07 coverage.
