in Why it’s okay to be mean to the contestants on the show… on The Biggest Loser Recap
Yes, TJ was a prime example last season of BB of how a lot of selective editing can make you seem quite sane and normal and the person you're interacting with seem very meanspirited. We didn't see TJ's screaming fits of insane rage until after she was evicted.
It made me very sad as I thought she was hot before that!
Big Brother also has the advantage that they have 24 hours of footage a day, minus sleeping time. And if they can't manufacture anything they can always have "blissful" scenes of the backyard early in the morning...
I'm always forgetting things to say, not a problem! :)

Suggesting that something is a conspiracy theory is not exactly the nicest thing you can say to someone. If you weren't aware of that before, you are now.
And, again, you're completely missing the point. Alison is used as an example. Everyone always says Alison is lovely and I have no reason to suspect otherwise.
But, and this is where you've come unstuck, if Alison is not actually the lovely person we see on TV, but the producers decide a lovable mother of three is of more interest to viewers, they can leave out all the bits where she's swearing her head off about this contestant, being rude to that contestant and generally being horrible.
I am not saying that she does those things. But if the producers want to emphasise the niceness it is trivial to leave out all the swearing and only ever show her saying lovely things about people. Trivial.
Even the most horrible people will say some nice things occasionally, even if you have to take them completely out of context to make it not seem rude.
There's no need for them to say to Cosi, "Call everyone clowns!" They just wait for him to say it and get a lot of mileage out of it. They don't need to ask JJ to be an insensitive prick, they just show the footage where he does so of his own accord.
If you don't think this is exactly what happens then you are incredibly naive. Trust me, it's happening. Go ask a past contestant if you have any doubts on that score. You're in for a nasty surprise.

Nope, they didn't chat to them about it on screen this time. I guess with all the other twists and turns and recapped things they couldn't find the time. :(
The names are above the cabinets for each person. I've not looked closely enough to know who belongs to what though, sorry!

It is not a conspiracy theory.
Which you would know if you'd read what was actually written and not what your own mind substituted for my words.
At no point did I say that they manipulate what the contestants say or do, all I said was that they selectively edit what is shown on screen of what the contestants choose to say or do. This is an indisputable fact.
Of course they're showing real slices of what people are like, but if you don't see all the slices you can't possibly know the entirety of their character.
That was my point. It's a shame you were more interested in coming here to trash me than actually consider what I had to say.

No, it's really not better than the current situation. Your solution would be confusing to the viewers at home and virtually impossible to balance fairly. As you said, you'd have to keep adjusting the handicapping formula in an effort to maintain the fairness, but you would be constantly behind the curve because you couldn't base the handicapping on the results of the current season, only historical data collected from previous contestants that may or may not be a fair representation of the current crop.
At some point you'd end up with a female Biggest Loser, no doubt at all. But with the handicapping in place, it may be by a completely ridiculous margin and yet the "real" result could show that a man really won it.
Not much of a victory!

I suspect that US Biggest Loser weeks are closed to real world weeks though, because they don't have all the Temptations and Warehouses and so on to artificially inflate things. The 15 weeks for 65.3kg may very well be how long Garry has had, or it may even be less than he's had.
And your last sentence sums Garry's chances up, basically. His main obstacle is going to be staying motivated once Michelle isn't there to kick his ass. He finds it hard enough when she is!
If he's in the final three with Alison and Kirsten, we may very well get our first female Biggest Loser by default!

No, handicapping is a bad idea because you can't just multiply every woman's results by the same amount to even things out. Younger women will do better than older women, and younger men will do better than older men, too. So you'd end up with a whole mess of handicapping all over the place and things would get really ugly.
A woman doesn't even have to win for the declarations to start about it being fair though. Bryce said it last night in regards to Alison winning the title of Biggest Loser. In one week.
Was completely ridiculous. Takes more than outperforming the boys for one week to win it and Bryce ought to know that.

The winner is decided solely on who loses the greatest percentage of their body weight, correct.
The reason the goal weights are mentioned sometimes is because it's an indication of what their weight "should" be... in theory. I've never paid much attention to the goal weights, personally, as I don't think they're at all useful for working out who'll win. Some contestants set themselves absurdly optimistic goals, some set very pessmistic ones.
It's not an overly useful way to judge whether they will be successful, in my opinion.
The Finale will be filmed at least 6 weeks after they leave the House, possibly more like 8 weeks, it's not entirely certain.
But yes, with an extra 6 or more weeks for people to lose weight in, the differences at the finale can be quite stunning. And some will undoubtedly be quite disappointing, too. It's always interesting, though!
You're welcome. :-)

Not so much a hater, just fair and balanced. Like Fox! ;)
You could be right that Cosi was talking on behalf of someone but that's still not unprecedented and the reality is, people are always trying to sway others during pre-elimination stuff. Bryce getting shirty with Cosi over it was silly.
It's just one example though.
Only one more week, either way!

Haven't seen it in the ads, but they might not do it because only Bryce is left to harangue him now.
I doubt it would bother the Commando in the slightest though. He'd've been through worse in his years in the military!

Yes, I doubt Alison will end up being a contender because she'll have too many distractions/responsibilities at home. If her husband and Mum can continue to shoulder the majority of the burdens though, she might manage it.
Bryce didn't start heavy enough to be a serious contender but he also hasn't lost weight consistently enough to do it, either. His good weeks have been pretty good but then he's had bad weeks right after. He'd have to kick that habit to be a threat at all.
Kirsten's main advantage is that she's already in the lead. If she can keep pushing hard from now (TV time) to the finale then if any of the others slack off even slightly, she could very possibly just hold the lead until finale.
Finale will be Thursday, 1st of May. Last episode to air will be on Sunday, which will be a weigh in and elimination night.

Alison definitely wouldn't vote for Kirsten. I'm 99% certain Sam won't either, but that's the only real sticking point for me. He might decide to shaft her, but after how bad he felt about the Cosi thing, I don't think he will.
But even if he does, I'm not entirely positive that Garry will vote for Kirsten anyway. He was the one who suggested the Fab Four thing and all signs pointed to him sticking to it.
Certainly will not be sad to see Michelle go, that is for sure!

Well, apparently Michelle's not there for the weightloss! 0.1kg! Heh.
Gladiators is great!
I think Kirsten slipping below the Line was the main reason she got riled up. I'm not sure she would have said anything if it had been Michelle and Garry pushed below the Line...

Alison is just ahead of Kirsten, you can't see her because Bryce is blocking her.
Kirsten is actually a little shorter than Sam, but Kirsten is also behind Sam in this shot, so she appears even shorter again. :)

I barely noticed it myself and only because I was looking real hard. I had to rewind a half dozen times to see if I really saw what I thought I saw and I'm still not entirely sure I did!
Well, Bryce's figures do support his theory that his weightloss goes up and down, but with Michelle gone he might finally get the motivation he needs to put in two good weeks in a row?
Hopefully it will be Bryce and Garry below the Line next week, if both even make it that far!

I don't want Kirsten to go either and I very much suspect she won't. ;)
I'm suspicious of his loss. He only lost 2 and a bit in all the time he was gone from the House, then in one week he lost 4 and a bit. It's a little peculiar!

Colleen said, "you never saw Allison crying and carrying on about her children."
So, yes, she did bring up Alison first. And then I made a joke about her possibly welcoming the break from her kids. And then THE WORLD ENDED, I guess?
I didn't twist anything around, I set colleen straight on how things really are. As for playing nice? I generally do.
But I don't tolerate people talking utter bullshit and attempting to browbeat me into submission, particularly not on my own blog. If you go back and read the exchange properly, you'll note my tone was "light banter" at first.
Yeah, that light banter ceases when you go on the offensive against me.
It also ceases when you try and tell me what to do on my own website. You don't like it? THEN GO AWAY. It's that simple. :-)
