How about cash? It has all of the benefits of gift cards: person can get what they want, convenience, stick to a budget. It's also harder to lose and doesn't expire.

The only drawback is that there's some stigma attached to it. The stigma is stupid. Have you ever heard someone who received cash as a gift badmouth it? Never. It's the people who put effort into getting gifts that nobody wants that are trying to lay a guilt-trip on the cash-givers.

Jeff, you guys did a great job with the conference. My big takeaway was that Atlanta has a thriving tech community.

Atlanta does have a thriving tech community. Great meeting you too and I hope we have other opportunities to run into each other. My only beef with Atlanta is that it's so far away.

Totally agree with the part about "if it feels like sacrifice, get out."

For me, the entire point of starting a company was to build a company I wanted to work at. I like working and I was tired of doing it under someone else's direction.

I just noticed that my bank was charging me a $3 service fee on my savings account because I wasn't maintaining a minimum balance. But I had loads of money in my checking account. It wasn't a matter of not being able to properly fund the savings account just a matter of not taking the time to. I wonder if other people do this?

So I called to get rid of the fee one way or another. Instead of feeling guilty I asked directly, "Am I getting anything out of this account?" They actually answered no and were very polite in helping me cancel the account.
