in Social Media Marketing Budgets on the Rise on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Good news :) No recession in this field, as companies realize how much they can get for their dollars online. But as you mention, the biggest challenge of the industry is finding what to measure and how. Everything needs to be measurable these days.

in Twitter Professors: 18 People to Follow for a Real Time Education on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Great list, Lon. There's some really interesting people on that list that I hadn't added already. Following people like that is what gives Twitter it's greatest value. I've never learned as much as since I started using Twitter.
I share my knowledge on social media, internet marketing and recession marketing (#recessiontips) on Twitter but I teach courses on that at Universities and privately.
Thanks again for a great list

in Google is index twitter on GissiSim.com | Gissur Simonarson Online
Hi Gissi
Google has been indexing Twitter for some time now. I've noticed tweets coming up in the SERPs increasingly. It is interesting since there's no more than 140 characters of information that will come up. The links that are tweeted are nofollow and will therefore not provide any link juice. But however, if you get the tweet it self with a link to rank well by linking to a certain tweet, that is definitely beneficial.
Google is in a bit of a dilemma here, since links that are retweeted are most likely to highly relevant content. But since it's nofollow, they should not include that in their algorithm.
Btw, nice blog you've got. Hadn't seen it before :)

in The Seth Godin blog strategy on Jim's Marketing Blog
Seth Godin is in a league of his own. I've been trying this out on a blog in Icelandic I have where I have pretty good traffic. I usually get quite a few comments on the posts when they are open for comments but trying to move the discussion to another platform is difficult. This creates a new threshold for interaction and you have to have some substantial traction to get over that. Seth Godin is of course in a league of his own. I mean, you can actually get an action hero of the guy!
One thing you don't mention that Seth does that is also brilliant, is instead of commenting, he allows track backing. That encourages people to write their comments on their own blog and provide a track back. This is excellent for link building and reaching the readers of other blogs.
ps. I like the Twitter name feature in the comments :)

in There's No I in Social Media | danny brown on danny brown - social media pr and marketing
Good point. And an indicator of how Obama thought of social media as we, while his competitors thought of it as I, is the simple fact that he followed back. Even though he doesn't read the 100k + people he follows on Twitter, it's a statement. He thinks of his communication with his followers as a two way street, not a one way.

Thanks for the mention of my post "Surreal Reykjavik". I don't read Lithuanian, so I don't really know what you were saying about it, but thanks anyway :)
I'm sorry to be posting this here, but I couldn't find your email address. I noticed that you've also been writing about International politics. I have a website you and your readers might find interesting called http://IfTheWorldCouldVote.com where we are giving the world an opportunity to let their voice be heard. Everyone has an opinion on who should be the next president of the USA. So far we've got 240.000 votes form 193 countries, but only 70 form Lithuania. I would be very interested in getting more votes from your country, so if you would like to blog about it, that would be great.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)
Cheers

in The Case of Target, Amy Jussel and Blogging's Place in the Media | danny brown on danny brown - social media pr and marketing
Thanks for the link, Danny. The target story is still a very relevant story. Though most of the largest companies have already burned themselves on ignoring the blogosphere, most companies still have a lot to learn.

in How Twitter Has Changed My Life on Ted Murphy
Good questions. I tweeted a 6.1 earthquake live, as it happened and the aftermath. I tweeted the birth of my son too, but with a little delay. I wanted my wife to have full attention, and we wanted to call our parents before tweeting the arrival. It's not that I'm not willing to share some personal emotions. It's more that I want to tell some people in person instead of them reading it on the net or hearing about from a distant friend.

in 100 Personal Branding Tactics Using Social Media on Chris Brogan
Excellent list, Chris.
I find it more about the channels for personal branding than building your personal brand, but that's maybe the purpose, so it's okay.
Keep up the good work. It brings us back again and again :)

in The Importance of Risk on Chris Brogan
Precisely! If you don't fail, you stagnate. The fear of failure stops you from taking risks, which stops you from developing.
Funny you should write about this topic today, 'cause it's the topic of my marketing column in tomorrow's paper. I see I'll have to write some more about it on my blog.

Many good points here, Chris.
I use Q&A a lot and that has proven to be an excellent way of building the network, learning new stuff and even promoting my blog and business. When you ask questions, make sure you follow up by thanking people for taking the time to answer and offering them to connect if you would like that.

in The First FriendFeed Event: MSFT and YHOO on Scobleizer
That's a nice crowd you're with, Robert.
Comparing Friendfeed to Techmeme, well, I guess it comes down to what you're looking for. If you're looking for more news on the event, I guess Techmeme is a lot better. If you're looking for your friends reactions to it, it would be ff. It also depends on who your friends are. Looking for the reactions of the industry leaders, you have them on friendfeed since they are your friends. But ff sure does look noisier.

Great article. I even signed up for the rss before getting to the last sentence ;)
I just started my blog in English after blogging for just over a year in Icelandic with good success. I'm linking to it if you want to check it out. It's about marketing the more untraditional way (internet marketing, viral marketing, word of mouth, guerilla marketing and nation branding).
And just some nice-to-know knowledge for you, it was the "frustration" image of the dog on Google images that actually brought me to this post, while searching for something completely different. One of the great coincidental stumble-up-ons on the net :)

Thanks for the comment. Very helpful information, so I appreciate the input a lot! This is exactly why they say that the comments are sometimes more relevant than the content =P
But I'm not surprised you haven't seen my blog before. I just got the domain a little over a month ago. Used to have Gissur.com but never used it. However, now I finally got very inspired to really go for my internet presence, so I really started blogging about a week ago =P
Anyhow, thanks again for the comment.
