that brandy song needs to be like a bonus b-sida japan release b/c it aint gun do shih here in the u.s. brandy needs to go bak out clubbing and roll thru the hood so she can hear wuhs hott on the radio. i mean u can tell wuh she's tryna do w/ this song and its not a horrible song, buh its certainly not strong enough to be a first single.

the dream beat is pretty dam close to the j holiday bed beat he wrote both of them songs... im a fan of the dream. his shih is easy to follow, the lyrics are catchy and the beats are always knocking, maybe a few more listens and ill be diggin this one..

gud thing i stopped on by and read this post...
personally idk about the whole "blk dl" thing, to me its sort of a myth b/c all the "DL" men that i see on the ghey sites, at clubs, at stores, etc are white. very few blk dudes i see.. maybe jus depends on the city.

my parents knew i was ghey ever since i was little and so did i. what can i do about it?
did i choose to be ghey? umm no... did everybody else choose to be str8t? umm no... sexuality isnt a choice, it just is..

informative post. didn't know what life was like for blacks in panama. people always want to quantify others to make themselves feel okay or to justify their treatment of people that they deem as [outsiders].

thought memin pinguin was just in mexico, must have been available allover the spanish-speaking world... interestingly enough, i was looking at the afro-mexican pg on wikipedia and it said that the mexican census doesn't have a category for race, ill have to check on that b/c if it's true it would be quite interesting.
i've noticed a fair number of people from mexico don't seem all that racist. maybe it's b/c they are from a society that's mostly homogenous or w/e.

i had a cuban spanish teacher that would talk about how she is of spanish descent and i wanna say "and does that make you something"? why does that matter? you're cuban, embrace that heritage and build upon it.

so your grandparents are from panama, but they are caribbean? so they spoke english and spanish both? thats interesting

i saw this story while at the gym and it was quite shocking... i mean it's a bathroom for christmas' sake!

in the piece on cnn the gentlemen were also saying that the white coworkers would go into the bosses office to get water, but the black employees weren't allowed near the bosses office.
these are [grown men] in their 50s who have probably lived through some pretty tense racial situations, so i'm sure they didn't think these types of things would still be happening in 2009...

what would i have done? personally, i'm not a fan of public bathrooms, BUT if i want to do something; nobody is going to stop me!
let's say this were a situation in which the black employees weren't allowed to use the break room to eat their lunches; i'd still use the breakroom, no matter what.. i'm just not from a generation that bows down to prejudice..
i'd take pics,vids,audio recourdings to strengthen my case..

and [semiskilled laborer] is coded language... it does take skill to protect the public from hazardous materials...

when i see relaxed hair, i think of it as dead/damaged/etc. b/c with relaxed hair you have to constantly moisturize it, do touch ups, etc. or it will fall out. that's too much for me.

i recently started using shea butter[1] and jojoba oil[2] on my hair/skin and i can really tell a difference. my hair feels soft, manageable, and clean. which is more than i can say about other hair products that i've used in the past. i don't know how these [beauty] companies are allowed to get away with selling these harsh/dangerous products to consumers...

at school a few weeks ago, i saw like 5 girls with natural hair (all different shades, length, textures, styles,etc) and it made me proud. i work with girls with natural hair, and there are alot of guys in my city with dreads, braids, and afros.

to me, there is nothing sexier than a dude with dreads.
i've also noticed that alot of commercials feature blacks with natural hair and i like that alot.

"hair story"[3] is a great book, it goes really in depth about black hair in america. all the way back to when blacks were first brought to this country

there are alot of chinese sellers on ebay that sell, inexpensive ($.99 total price w/ free shipping) silk scarves. i personally think it's important to sleep with either silk pillow cases or a silk head scarf just to keep the moisture in your hair, and to keep it in place.

I take one [half pound] container of shea butter, melt it slightly in the microwave, add about 4 tbs of jojoba oil, and mix with my handmixer for about 15 minutes. what results is a light and fluffy whip that you can put on your hair.

And i'd rather the lives be "snuffed" out, than having those kids be raised by parents who are unable to take care of them. the less parental involvement, the more likely they are to resort to crime, drugs, mischief.

While whites have brought industry to Africa, they also brought war, disease and abuse to the native people. The rice, beans, clothes, books, etc. are sourced from American companies or companies with American interests so the aid that Africa gets just funnels right back to America! How about finding African companies and using their products when sending aid to Africans?! This is very much a "give a man a fish" instead of "teaching him to fish" situation. I know a fair number of african/Afro-caribbeans and they are very well educated, so somebody is doing something right in the motherland and i think that "somebody" is the individual families, and communities despite their exposure to colonialism...

i've noticed that wytes really don't care either way, but AAs/blks are sometimes the ones who have a problem with it.

my hair is super thick and quite curly, so it does take a little bit of effort to find the best products/tools for my specific hair type. but it's worth it.

i really like the style where the hair is just braided on either side. i'ma rock my hair like that when it grows out longer.

put one texturizer in during middle school, but other than that, my hair has always been [natural]. i kno people who will not grow out their hair b/c they think it's messy, or they can't style it or whatever, but if you read books, surf the internet, you can find alot of styles, products,etc. for your specific hair type. personally, i prefer jojoba oil over shea butter/coconut oil, but that's what works well for me. it's all about personal choice and finding a good combination, hair regime that fits your schedule....

also i dun think we're frins on facebook seattleslim... let's change that....

@ a. spence, i do the ACV rinse as well for any buildup/dandruff. how often do you do yours? and how often do you wash your hair in general?

hair relaxers are super dangerous, people should really think twice about using them. i mean if they knew the damage they were doing to their hair.... these relaxer companies should be requiered [by the FDA] to post videos on their websites in which chemists explain the real dangers of hair relaxers, and then people can decide whether they want to use them or not. when whites started getting long cancer from cigarettes, these cigarette companies were requiered to inform people about the harmfulness of smoking, so why not the same thing for hair relaxers?

great post, yo sabia que tu eres de panama, pero i didn't know the full story of what it was like for you when you came to america and had to assmiliate into american culture.

i've heard similar stories from african/caribbean/european friends. one west african dude who i used to work with told me that people would ask him if he lived in a house or if he had watched television before he came to america. such questions are naive at best and classist/bigotted at worst...

i like how you had a plan tog et back to panama though (through the military), thats smart thinking. too bad the canal was handed over before you could get back there...

a friend of mine always talks about the christmas holidays and "la virgen the guadalupe" and whenever he talks about these celebrations his face just lites up and i can tell it's a way for him to stay in touch with his culture.

so let me ask you, on a job application do you check "black" or "hispanic" or both?

i've never used these nor-known anyone who has used them. (no offense, but it seems like something that people in their mid-late 20s or older will kno more about)

i work with a fair number of east indians and some of them are BLACK like their skin is the colour BLACK. which is interesting.

nah, i don't think i'll be changing the colour of my skin anytime soon. my brown skin is gonna look younger for alot longer than other skin types and i can lay in the sun in the summer! everybody should want brown skin haha!!

Bueno, en realidad depende en la cultura porque aqui en este pais no es como asi. the lyrics are quite sexual/provocative, but after actually listening to the song it was really put into perspective.
to me it seems like afro/latin cultures mix with eachother to make something richer and more interesting, while american culture kinda wants to paint everyone with the same brush and make them act the same...

i stopped watching that show season one...

the fact that he would tackle her like that is just disrespectful and he should have been called on the carpet for that.
and the camera panned to the black guy to see what he was gonna do and he just sat there...

if you're gonna be a racist, why not just be honest about it? all this ambiguity nowadays is not fooling anyone. you can say "oh, bad grammar is an american thing" blah blah blah, whatever, but he obviously had a problem with the girl b/c she was black...

i like solange, her music is fun and different.
i dont think she [tries too hard], she has a widely successful sister and she's gotta stand out some how.

amber rose does nothing for me; she's using kanye (or he's using her, depending on how you look at it), and she's out there with her arse hanging out... people don't seem to have a problem with her though....

i have not once heard solange's parenting abilities called into question so obviously she's doing something right, and that's what really counts.

in the video (especially toward the begining) i noticed a few ghey dances. ghey dances, movements, music, etc are really empregnating our culture haha!
kanye's album, some tracks on the-dream's album, beyonce's dance moves, the clothes that the jonas brothers wear; its all borrowed from ghey culture! haha

i remember back in the day when tony toni tone was really popular, and you can still hear their tracks on the radio and in people's ipods to this day! anniversary, it never rains, feels good, whatever you want; thats back when people were making real music!

I don't know what it is with some white americans, but when you tell them "oh yeah, i'm of mixed ancestry part of which is white" they make it seem like you've just spoken some foreign language haha!
my familial story is similar to your's slim; all different shades, heights, noses, etc. haha

i too am looking forward to seeing this movie.

Alot of AAs were taught from childhood that the only way to have "manageable" hair is to straighten it, buh thats obviously not the case. i think the internet is doing alot for the dissemination of information about natural hair.
everybody's hair is different; so the internet allows you to connect with other people who have similar hair types to see what their hair regime is like.
personally i also like the fact that i'm supporting black businesses when i buy my products online. it's a good way to find out about good products for our specific hair type.

what others do with their hair really shouldn't concern me, b/c people can do what they please and b/c some people honestly don't know that relaxing their hair is just going to make it brittle and it'll end up breaking off.

but should relaxing your child's hair be considered a form of child abuse?

this guy is full of it, like really. how can you tell two grown adults that they can't get married?! what if the wife had been west indian and the husband had been african american; b/c while "they" might look alike, there are some cultural differences...

i saw their wifeswap episode and they were just as crazy back then. parents really need to be careful and put their children's best interest ahead of their own selfish wants...
