There are a lot of mom sites out there popping up, I know Minti competes with groups, but we are mainly an "advice-opedia" on parenting..part social search, part user generated content, part social community. Most of these mom sites focus on groups and are only for moms. Minti is more a tool to share information generated by parents (care givers, grandparents, dads, uncles, aunties) yes moms are the main target, but we don't limit to just moms and groups.

Great post. Pete, just an update...Minti is now out of beta and whilst we (the founders) get involved, the community now produces the content on the site with roughly 23,500 plus active contributions - ie. article, blog post, group, forum post, comment or vote. More and more parents are using the net to connect and say hi to friends from all over the world online (there is time, instead of watching 3 hours of TV when the kids go to bed or are taking a nap during the day for younger kids)...at Minti we are aiming to create a place were advice is accessed eventually by GEN Y kids who eventually grow up and get married and have kids and whom the internet is the main source of information. We need the experienced parents to create the content to pass the golden advice on and provide a place to reach out when times get tough.
We have members looking to have children, and parents with 1 to 8 children, and a host of amazing life stories, with members aging from teen parents to grandparents.
Pete, it would be great if you had the time to explore Minti and check out all the features, or we'd be happy to take you through the site...it is sometime difficult to relate, but if you have kids, Minti is a place were we aim to empower parents, something that is a miss sometimes in the real world.
I wanted to create a site that help empower parents to change the world for parents, one piece of advice at a time.
...From the feedback from our members it is relatively easy to post a question and get answers almost straightaway, write your own advice in the form of an article, promote your own craft on your own homepage, with it's own lounge to hang out with your other Minti friends in, write and mirror external blogs and subscribe to any type of content on the site...and these are the only a few I have described...there is plenty more.
Cheers,
Rachel Cook,
Co-founder, Minti

Hi Anne,
My name is Rachel Cook, a Mompreneur and that also founded the idea of Minti. What is Minti? It is the first Parent to parent, advice-opedia and is a Web 2.0 social networking and user generated content site for parents. It`s advice articles written for parents by parents and it a wiki of sorts. I am one of three co-founders, I am a mom to my 22 month old son. Minti received US$1.19m in funding. My previous web business (which I still co-own with my husband, who is now the CEO of Minti and co-founder) called ineedhits, has over 200,000 customers mainly from the US. I am also an EO`er (YEO) and receive INC as part of being a member. So I all my web entrepreneur experience has been in the US online market, despite being based in Perth Western Australia (a booming mine resource sector investing heavily in tech).
I recently gained some press from CNET (news.com) for my blog evangelising the Family 2.0 space - from which was used as a source and the co-founders interviewed from my blog as well as myself for Minti.
I thought you may like to check Minti out.
Here are the recent CNET press which also was distributed out to NYTimes and MSN
