in How to Deal with People who are Stealing your Content on John Cow dot COM
Some good information here. I have zero luck dealing with web hosts in regard to my content being stolen. The problem is a lot of these scraper sites are run by scripts that not only generate the wordpress installations but also the domains. Tracking down all those people is difficult at best.

in Is Facebook Advertising Effective? on AllFacebook
I've been experimenting with Facebook's ad system but I'm not that pleased so far. 286k impressions resulting in 206 clicks and only one sale. That's just horrible. This cost me about $100 and resulted in an $11 sale...not a great return by any stretch...so my question is where do the clicks come from and even with negative qualifiers I still get curious clicks...that sucks.

I'm looking forward to hearing your interview with Tim Sykes. I've read his book (something I won from JohnChow.com a while back) and I regularly read his blog. I haven't delved into short-selling which he is really a proponent of but I have learned a lot from his techniques and his business model is really working.

Nice post. I try to convey this a lot on my own blog to my readers. By the way, I know exactly who is on the cover of that magazine. I've got his book and soon to buy his DVD. To answer "sell porn make money"s question about profit vs revenue for mr X. He's talking about profit. In fact, last month his blog made a profit of over $45,000.00

Contact me if you want to know who it is, I'd be happy to point you to his site.

I forgot to mention, any newer version of software isn't going to be compatible with the older version...and the "file" menu is under the new little icon...yeah it's not totally obvious but it is there. I much prefer Outlook 2007 over the previous version. One more thing, you can't have office 2003 and 2007 installed on the same machine or you will get all kinds of errors and crashes, but you shouldn't have both anyway.

I did splurge on that machine. It cost me $1500.00 when I bought it a couple years ago. It's running OS 10, has plenty of RAM it's just that iTunes doesn't like the drive all her music is stored on so it crashes alot.

wow...huge MS bash post here.

Not really something I expected but I do have some comments. There's a lot of MS hating going on here. I have office 2k7 on both my home machine and my work laptop and have no problems with either. Also, backward compatibility means that if you have a newer version of an application, you can still open older versions, not the other way around. That would be "forward compatibility" which doesn't exist.

If you have a user/friend/co-worker that has office 2k3 and you save a file from 2k7 that has extra features of course they aren't going to be able to read it...that goes for any software, not just Microsoft Software...be fair.

As for the mac. Explain to me why iTunes stops working on my wife's imac nearly every day for no reason? About twice a day she has to shut down the drive her files are on and restart iTunes. I've never had anything like that happen on my PC and I use iTunes all the time.

My game system is a PC and I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate. Haven't had any driver problems, rarely does the computer crash, and it starts up in about 30 seconds compared to a good 15 minutes on my laptop and at least 10 minutes for my other work computer.

So, what all that says to me is, it really depends on the computer you are running all this on and how much memory/hdd space/video card you are using. There's no perfect system on the planet and never will be. We just use the best software and hardware for the job that we can afford. Heck, I'd love it if I could do my job with only the drum kit from Rock Band but it ain't gonna happen.

in Answer My Questions for $100 at Amazon on John Cow dot COM
* Should blogs be all business ONLY?
- Absolutely not. Blogging isn't just about business, in fact it has only been recently that people seem to be jumping on the "make money online" bandwagon and trying to make money from their blog. Blogging is and should be whatever you want it to be. Anyone wanting to start a blog should be writing not only what they know about, but what they are passionate about. This is how you get readers and eventually make money if you want.

* Is not one of the attractions of blogging –> getting inside the mind of the blogger?
- Yes, people identify with certain bloggers or writing styles because there's something about that person that strikes the right chords with you. Almost every blog I read didn't start out as a money making blog but only became so because the author started experimenting with monetization and found something that worked. I love seeing how others live and what kinds of choices they make because of their lifestyle.

* What do you look for in a blog and what brings you back… what gets you hooked?
- Honesty and topics that are similar to my own interests. are what keep me coming back to a blog. I don't whether it makes money or not or is a business or not. Some blogs I read just because they are entertaining and good writing always brings me back.

I didn't find the information in the rich jerk ebook very useful because his techniques seem like a good idea but what you really need are tools that give you an edge. Right now I'm finding success with Google Assassin. I won't put my affiliate link here, you can read what I have to say about it on my blog.

in First Attempt at Technical Analysis: EMC Corp on Investing Adventures
You can also look at earnings as an indicator which is what value investors look at. The company has 20% growth over the next year and trades at 27 times earnings, but if I am an institutional investor willing to pay twice the growth in terms of PE, that puts the PE at 40, multiply that by the current EPS and you have a stock price of $28.80 giving you your sell target.

I love my iPod Touch. The 16GB limitation doesn't matter to me either since my music fits on it fine. The problem is all the video podcasts and other videos I watch don't always fit. I have about 3GB free on mine for video. For you readers, I was one of the lucky winners from the Million Euro Wiki.
