I've been following eMail Our Military for a while and have recently been working with them on a project to personalize emails using www.qipit.com. My dad was stationed in southeast Asia twice during the Vietnam war and he very much enjoyed getting word from home. It was very meaningful to me to be able to communicate with him. All eMOM is doing is helping real people serving our country hear from real people back here using electronic communications. It's not any more complicated than that. Hopefully with Mother's Day coming up we can beef up the communications to the Mothers stationed overseas and help Mothers here communicate with their sons and daughters in the military.

It is great to read the passion of the people who support eMail Our Military. The person who is being objectionable is coming from an uninformed point of view about what eMOM does and is being irrational in his arguments. What he is confused about mainly is that people with different points of view, on many issues, could actually agree the following: when American troops are away from home and potentially in harms way we can all tell them that we miss them, we are praying for and thinking about them, we thank them for their service to our country, and we wish them a safe and speedy return home to the family and friends. This isn't political, this is who we are. First, we are Americans! Let's do all we can to communicate with the very real people who make up our military services.

Innovation networks and collaborative activities online and off will necessitate increasingly efficient ways to accomplish more. We're no doubt only seeing the sampling of the tools that will come into play in this regard. Great insights.

This is an excellent idea. Initially, I fell into the thinking of how difficult it would be to introduce the same kinds of innovation discussed in Wikinomics to the public sector. Then, as my mind opened and I began to think instead about the inevitability of the net generation coming of age, and the very real need for innovation right now, I have more than embraced the concepts and would like to help implement them.

When I first went to work in D.C. for a Member of Congress, I learned quickly that nothing is off the record and if you didn't want to read it on the front page of the Washington Post, don't put it in writing. The new truth of "citizen journalism" is that there is no down time for politicians except when they are in a very private environment. They can handle it because the public's acceptance of "less than perfect" politicians is becoming as common as the new media exposure. We all make mistakes. Now all of us decide what are the mistakes, not just the small group of journalists who used to monopolize the conversation.

What most of us agree with is that it is great when someone like you exposes the astroturfing for what it really is. Maybe we should have an "Astroturfing Watchdog Group" to warn elected officials, the media and the general public about manipulative efforts to affect legislation? That is long overdue. It's great that this one was exposed. I wonder how many haven't been.

Nice post, Robert. To really simplify what I think is going on...Ron Paul is benefiting from the same anti-Bush reaction and hype that fed John McCain's Straight Talk Express four years ago. Paul has stood on stage with candidates who are afraid to differ with the sitting President from their own party on most major issues, especially the wars. (I think we have a few going.) Paul doesn't seem to have that fear which is understandable since his nomination and/or election as President are not gaining any traction in the real world. It's just fun, not a real possibility at this point.

I, like many, believe the next President will come from the other major political party, the Democratic party. So there is a very important job of picking that nominee before the American people who choose to participate in the process. The blogosphere can be a very important communication tool for making that selection process more informed and less based on hype. You are showing good leadership in that regard. Thank you.

I don't mean this to be offensive, and somehow I doubt you'll even read my comment, but you're completely wrong to declare this race over and also doing a major disservice to the many, many of us who are actually working for Obama, when you do so.

I wish, instead, you would use your considerable network to help register people to vote and then get them out to vote, and not declare early defeat.

Please, if you actually read this, ask those who are really involved next time before making such pessimistic pronouncements. You've fallen for the McCain strategy hook, line and sinker.
