Did you publish through CreateSpace? Very interested in hearing more!

LakeNeuron I used CreateSpace. A friend of mine had been recommending Lulu, like you had used, and I might easily have gone in that direction. But CreateSpace had a special offer for people who completed National Novel Writing Month last year, and it was kind of a spur of the moment thing. I've been happy so far, although I have nothing to compare it to . You do have to design everything yourself (Amazon also owns a different POD company, BookSurge, which offers design and marketing services).

On a lark, I also set up the book for Amazon Kindle and uploaded it that way, which was surprisingly easy.

I haven't really started publicizing the book yet beyond my circle of friends, but I'll probably do something in the Times-Gazette soon. The people who read the newspaper have always been very receptive to my first-person stories about my mission trips, and I'm hoping that will translate to this fictional spin on the experience.

It was such a trip to actually see the book listed on Amazon!

in Happy Hour: We’re Guarding Our Gasoline on Nashvillest
We've held up pretty well with gas in the Smyrna LaVergne area... until tonight. Looks like we get the long lines now, along with police directing traffic. Sam Ridley corridor has run out, but you can get gas from smaller stations around towns.

That's a tough question. Did you explain that it was one prescription to her? I'd probably want to take at least part of the mistaken credit and buy groceries for the local food bank or something.

If you don't get that publishing contract, you can just be cheesey like me and self-publish on lulu.com. I'd buy it! Looking forward to a good read!

I just linked to your site on Shak Jill. Thanks for your comment about the cards to soldiers. A LaVergne blog commenter told me the Walter Reed link is "untrue" according to Snopes, so I provided your Red Cross address instead. Thanks, John!

in Paying Off Our Mortgage in Five Years on Trying To Follow
Though the national and regional media scream that this is a horrible time to buy, it's actually a very good time to buy. Housing prices have dipped somewhat and with sellers anxious, they are more likely to negotiate.

My advice is to get your mortgage loan through someone local, first of all.. and preferably through a bank or a lender backed by a bank. I think it's very admirable that your goal is to pay it off in five years. Besides plain lack of money, people don't pay off mortgages because of the tax advantages of having one. But if I had a choice of a tax-write-off or owning a home outright, I'd pick the loan payoff any and every day! Good luck!

Heh. You made me snicker aloud! I worked at UK in the transcript office when Ashley was a student there. She came in once and I paid little attention... but after she left, all the other transcript slaves ooh'ed and aah'ed about her. ha.

100% too! I think we're both pathetic. I actually had to think hard about Doogie v. Knightrider because I never watched either show. But the medical theme seemed pretty obvious. Thanks for helping me spend about 5 minutes of my life reminding myself what a loser I am! hahaha!

The weather is bad. The weather is grand. The tourists are on Gilligan's Isle! Ouch. I'm glad we were able to sit right down and hear a tale. A tale of a fateful trip. That started from a tropic port aboard a tiny ship.
