As a baby boomer I agree with your comments with the exception of Al Sharpton.

Al Sharpton, with whatever faults you see, has been one of the only so-called leaders to speak truth to power even when they ridicule and try to dismiss him as an irrelevant minstrel. He is not. Don't fall into the media trap of trying to make a laughingstock out of this man, who despite the attempts of the recognized organization you correctly state now work against our interest because they are beholden to their mast... benefactors, that the concerns and issues affecting the masses of our people are of little consequence to them.

As long as they can continue to have their awards banquets and conventions to shovel their manufactured accomplishments, which year after year have done nothing to improve the lives of our people, they will be allowed by the media to continue this outrageous conduct. These are the people who should receive your ridicule.

You might not like his methods at times, but his heart is in the right place. He loves Black people, and you can't say that about these organizations that have sold us out a long, long time ago.

Now that truly wants to make you HOLLA!

To the posters on this particular subject, I would advise you to be honest and quit trying to justify or diminish the bigotry and outright racism associated with hispanics in this country and their disdain for African Americans who have fought to good fight only to have latins/hispanics without fear of reprisals say out loud that they dispise Black folks.

How ironic that Blacks in THIS country stayed here to fight the battle for racial equality while latins/hispanics sit in the shade and proclaimed their whiteness, only to change once the hard fought battles of the civil rights era were won. How hypocritical can you be and still call Black folks with a straight face whiny, complainers and have too much political power? WOW. If it had not been for the whiners and complainers hispanics/latins wouldn't be able to hold their heads up in this country as well, as they try to run away from their Indian and African heritages.

So I would admonish all these Black intellectuals, academics, and so-called upper class to remember this poll as you stand up and fight the battles of people who have such a low opinion of you.

I think you should reserach your own history a little further.

When the slave ships dropped off slaves in America they also did so in Latin America, hence the large population of Blacks in many latin american countries. Within the colonization of these countries by Europeans, the Indians were indoctrinated into believing that Africans were inferior to them and anything associated with them was inferior. To this day many in the latin culture do not like being referred to as Indian let alone African or Black.

When I said fighting battles, I was referring to the battles African-Americans had to fight in THIS country, not one in which when the going got tough they ran to another country. I ask you, how many hispanics were water hosed, bombed, or lynched for participating in civil rights demonstrations, how many attempted to vote? How many are taking advantage of the gains made through civil rights legislation fought for in THIS country by those whiny and complaining black folks with too much political power that hispanics are taking advantage of now?

As I said earlier to all these pro-illegal immigrant black folks. Be careful of your hand, when you put it out there you might draw back a nub.

If you know your history in THIS country, miscegnation is a bad word to many African-Americans who have attempted to PASS to make their lives a little easier in this racis country as many latins have done when they "crossed over." We consider ourselves Black and proud of it. I guarantee there are more latins who are trying to pass then black folks ever will.

For some historical context and relevant to today's history, please go to the archives of the Miami Herald and read an interesting series that did regarding Blacks in Latin America and how they are faring in today's world. It is an eye opener and I warn you, the opinions of many of these latins is common today in those countries as it is here in Miami.

Good reading and it explains a lot regarding the self-loathing that so many latins have regarding their African ancestry.

There are plenty of Black Mexicans in Mexico.

They just have not been counted as part of the population by their own government until recently.

Remember the brohaha when Jesse Jackson went to Mexico after the Mexican government officially endorsed a racist Black Sambo image that the Mexican government did not see a problem with and wondered what our problem was.

A whole group of people not even recognized by their government no wonder they have anxiety complexes about their racial identity.

Hillary knows this, Barack knows this, and any politician with half a brain knows this, including those self-absorbed black politicians are selling out the interest of the black community for what?

It's past time for them to trying to be "fair and equal" with other groups when the feelings of inclusiveness are not returned.

Just wait until Latins have more influence and power and Black folks will become the new native american or asian as far as influencing what happens in the Democratic Party.

We have been sending missives to the so-called Black Congressional Congress regarding immigration for years, but it has fallen on deaf ears, it's just a matter of time before their ineffectiveness will bleed into irrelevance and the sad thing is they are committing voluntary suicide and taking ALL of us with them.

Too many people died for us to be able to vote so IF Hillary were THE candidate, I would vote for her, otherwise we play into the hands of many of these people try to persuade us to stay home.

One way or the other we have to make the decision for our future and our children's futures. Its not all about us but them and I mean ALL of our children. Whether we like it or not, we do have a choice and for me it could never be the selfish, mean-spirited, racist Republicans.

That list of democrats and republicans attempting to remind African-Americans of the legacy of the Republican party and its ties to the civil rights issues is often evasive, misleading and down right offensive.

In order to truly understand the evolution of the Republican Party you surely know that most Blacks who could vote during Lincoln's time did so because he advocated an end to slavery, not because it was the humane and moral thing to do, rather it was an attempt to choke the southern economy and its barrens who were plotting insurrection against the union. Slavery as liberating a race of people was an afterthought. After Andrew Johnson removed the Union troops from the south after Reconstruction, Blacks did not have anyone Republican or Democrat to champion their cause until Franklin Roosevelt, who due to circumstances and with everyone being in the same boat financially and through the efforts of his wife to bring some semblance of normalcy to the lives of African Americans, did Black folks begin to abandon the Republican Party. The Dixiecrats of the Democratic Party who were staunchly and violently opposed to several rights completed their conversion to the Republican Party when Lyndon Johnson signed civil rights legislation. Now I know you knew that right?

So attempts to equate the Republican Party as the party of Lincoln or the party that cares about African-Americans would be laughable if it was not down right pathetic and dangerous for someone to continue to believe this myth perpetrated by the Republican Party. By its actions, not its words, the Republican Party of today, has shown its true "colors" when it comes to anything remotely progessive or advantageous to Black Americans let alone any minority. Name me one piece of legislation that the Republican Party championed that would positively impact the lives of African Americans. These people could not even bring themselves to vote for assitance to Hurricane Katrina victims, and assailed them as lazy for not being rich and unable to help themselves, yet or willing to provide corporate welfare for banks and mortgage companies crying because they are now losing money.

Yes, some of us will fall for that tired of line about the progressive Republicans, but some of us who have been around for more than a minute, now this is a tired worn out farce that I hope you will not continue to repeat.

Take it from me, it is not about the Clintons but about what would continue to happen to us as a race if we had another GWB in the White House. We can't take anymore.

Actions speak louder than words every time, and by his actions Mr. Johnson has repeatedly shown his contempt for the African American community in every way possible.

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the Republican Party was STILL the majority party in Congress.

When the Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu attempted to pass legislation that would have assisted the victims of this hurricane and its aftermath, the Republican party and its members blocked every effort until a bill could be passed that would give construction contracts to Republican countries, including one belonging to a friend of GWB, who resigned as head of FEMA to form his company to take advantage of all that money. Trent Lott in his greed literally railroaded a bill to Congress for a railway line costing more than 250 million dollars all while the victims of New Orleans and Missisppi were left to rot.

By the way, you are giving yourself a way again as a troll.

The word is DEMOCRATIC. Your childess attempts at being dismissive are amusing as is all these frat boy wanna be macho Republicans who would pee in their pants if they met a real man, or even a real woman.

I invite you Seaberry to loosen up, take that board out of your a$$, try walking in somebody else's shoes for once to see how the other side lives. You might actually learn something--humility, morality, empathy.

The Clinton's are finally showing their "true colors" as are these so-called Progressives. Did you expect anything else?

For all of you who actually assumed that the Clintons and these so-called Progressives had your best interests at heart, I will pray for you.

On issue after issue, as long as we were kept in the background until needed to vote for whatever Democrat was thrown in front of us, as we listened to homilies about the issues of concern without any mandates to make the necessry changes, we were the necessary burden that they had to bear.

How dare these Black folks demand accountability? How dare these Black folks state they have as much right to be heard? It's not time to take theem out of the closet yet.

For every issue of importance to us, we have been marginalized and dismissed with homilies about doing better THE NEXT TIME. How many more next times are we supposed to wait?

Were we listened to or even acknowledged when we vehemently opposed the Iraq War? How about immigration? Has even the Congressional Black Caucus, meaning hedging their bets by supporting the Clintons in fear of losing their "influence", selling us down the river. What will immigration do to help working class African-Americans accept take away the scarce jobs we have now?

Yes, open the door, pull us out, but keep your mouths shut and doe as your told.

Not only are the Clintons showing their true colors, but these people who consider themselves Progressives. A long contemplative look into their mirrors should make them pause as they in their own ways continue to tell us to stay in our place.

We have been played so often, sometimes it just gets boring to watch as the CBC handkerchief heads roll over while the parties that be continue to throw them a bone.

What will the CBC and its members have to say to the AA community as Hillary who has lied to them time after time, makes a Latino her VP running mate?

Whoever is advising her and calculating that Black folks will vote for her in spite of throwing us away to pick a Latino will be tossed under the train with us. If its these same old tired Negroes who think that we will still support her in fear of the big bad GOP, well we better get ready for another Republican in the White House.

I had said if she is the candidate, I would hold my nose and vote for her, but if she is so calculating that she would pander to Hispanics at the expense of Black folks who did all the dying and crying for civil rights, I will not vote for her at all. Talk about shitting on the run that brought you to the dance, that would be the last straw for me.

Latinos have taken advantage of the gains Black folks have acquired and will do it again if given the chance. For Hillary Clinton to do this would be a catatrophic mistake on her part. Remember when they ask questions about immigration, have you noticed the lack of polling among African Americans? Hillary and her pollsters already know the answer they simply just don't care, and for these CBC members to go along with it tells you all you need to know about them.

As many people are surprised at Clinton, then you will really like what is yet to come.

I am glad that your experiences in your community have been positive, however, I like the first poster live in Miami. I was here when the first Cubans began arriving, the ones with the money smuggled out of Cuba from their plantations and money either pillared from Cuba. They begin arriving about the same time that the Civil Rights Movement was taking place in this country in the late 50's, and were soon provided with the benefits that Black Americans fought and died for, but were not given by the racist in control of this city. The Cuban Refugee Adjustment Act which provided ANY Cuban who made it to the US with food stamps, housing subsidies, educational grants, a swifter path to citizenship and the holy grail, Social Security for many people who had never worked a day in their lives in this country.

Semperas, that Act is still in force today, as most of the Cubans who now make it to Florida are more economic than political refugees as their relatives before Bush cut off their cake, could go and come to Cuba on vacation!

All the while, African Americans and their so-called leaders watched as government officials, and politicians bent over backward to strip Affirmative Action a program that has been in force LESS time than the Cuban Refugee Adjustment Act, that Cubans now say is not needed, since they have been catered to at the expense of American citizens.

Even though Jimmy Carter many of them get here in the 1980's, the majority are all Republicans. Every benefit they have received was the result of a democratic initiative, yet they slap them in the face and continually vote the Republican platform which is perplexing because the Republicans are antithema to everything the Cubans have received.

The tension between African-Americans and Cubans is simmering just below the surface as these immigrants have now decided that African-Americans are lazy, ungrateful for what the Cubans have allowed them to have in Miami. The outflux of both Whites and Blacks from Miami is telling as both populations in the city have continued to decrease. Don't take my word for it, check the census reports of the last ten years. And while your checking Haitians, Jamicians, Dominicans in Miami don't consider themselves Black, so please don't include them in those figures as they don't include themselves. Talk about self-loathing!

As I said, I am happy for you wherever you are Semperas, but here in Miami, our young people cannot get jobs because they don't speak Spanish, and it is constantly used as a weapon by people who do speak it in order to deny a job.

The writing is on the wall, if this is allowed to grow like a cancer in other parts of the US, native born Americans will not stand a chance, and will be relegted to second class citizenship behind people who will throw it up in your face about how Americans are such suckers. You will not go to Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica or any other country and have the laws changed to accomodate Americans, yet we are bending over backwards to help people who don't appreciate it.

Wake up and tell the real truth.

Even though slavery was outlawed in Mexico in 1846, Blacks in Mexico were not even counted as a group until last year!

They were discriminated against and marginalized, considered invisible people by their own government. I dare say that a majority of people in this country didn't even know that there are whole regions of Mexico where Blacks are large numbers of the population.

When the president of Mexico has to be scolded by Blacks from this country for making a racist coon figure part of the national logo of Mexico just a few years ago,

don't go Pollyanna on us by trying to pass off your BS that Mexicans and Blacks are walking down the road hand and hand.

My friend if most Mexicans had their way, we wouldn't even be outlawed on the bus, let alone sit in the back!

Famous words repeated countless times, in a coalition of minority groups banning together to achieve some type of political power. Yet when Hispanics and Blacks got together to achieve this goal, once all the struggle was over and Blacks had been used, they were reduced to outsiders as they watched Hispanics, particulary in South Florida, used their so-called whiteness and the so-called priviledge that provides, leave them behind.

Fall for the okey doke if you want fellow African Americans and once again we will be the losers.

How many times have you seen Hispancis when espousing their positions talk about the Brown and Black brothers working together? Not very often you say, yet when Blacks are agitating for change we are inclusive of all minorities, resulting in gains of opportunity for all.

The experiences of African Americans in South Florida should give pause to anyone posting here about the wonderful relationships so many have had with their fellow "brothers." A marriage of convenience only to be divorced once one partner gets what he wants.

To the poster advising African Americans to sit out the election if Hillary Clinton is "the" candidate, are you advocating that Hispanics do the same?

When will America accept that fact that it kidnapped, tortured, enslaved, raped, and brutalized an entire race of people simply because of the color of their skins? That the presumed assumption that white is right was found wanting.

Your lack of knowledge regarding history is glaring as these groups were exterminated along with the Jews, as Africans were enslaved in this country, its women raped, families torn apart, which benefitted people like you who now want to just forget it ever happened and everything will be okay if we just look to the future and not remember the ugliness of this country and the terror visited daily upon Americans who if they made the wrong move would be putting their lives in jeopardy. Now you try and live your life and that of your family in those conditions.

Were any members of your family enslaved, prohibited from learning, denied jobs because of the color of their skin, unable to seek protection from law enforcement, jailed (enslaved) for the slightest infraction? When you can answer yes to any of those questions, then we can talk.

The counterproductiveness is only relevant for people who would wish to dismiss the evil arrogance of this country and its sins against humanity by telling us once again to get over it with academic arguments void of common sense or facts and patronizing bromides. How dare you?

The question was asked by a citizen from Minnesota, who has seen the effects of illegal immigration on her community, as if I had the opportunity, would have asked the same question. The question did not come from Wolf Blitzer and Hillary Clinton answered it in a much better view of reality by actually admitting that citizens of this country were losing their jobs because of illegal immigration.

I have to disagree with you regarding the question posed by a citizen who asked a question if I had been given the opportunity as many others, would have asked. That nobody is talking about the consequences of illegal immigration and its affects upon the African American community. Those so-called jobs they are doing because nobody else wants to do them. That's not a lie, that's a damned lie. Most of those jobs are considered working class, which is not what most of the political intellegencia, academics, or middle class are. Its the working class that is taking the full brunt of allowing this to continue to go unchecked, resulting in lost jobs, reduced wages, unemployment, and to a lesser extent the ills of violence, crimes, and other ills that result when people don't have jobs.

Barack Obama stambled and stumbled, looking for an out that did not allow him to answer the question. HE DID NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION. He is so afraid of alienating one group by speaking the truth, that he might have done himself irreparable damage with the African-American community. To her credit, Hillary Clinton did acknowledge that AA and other working class people are being hurt by illegal immigration. It seemed that Obama was pandering, something I had not seen until that moment. He states that anyone bringing up the subject is trying to scapegoat another group, that is patently false, since it is not a perception but a truth that can be backed up by actual facts, it is not anecedotal.

Please stop all these cumbaya sh##, by pretending that if we don't say it out loud, then all will be well with the world. That's the problem nobody is talking about it, and it should be an issued raised at every one of his town hall meetings until he gives a complete cogent answer on how illegal immigration will be stopped and what he will do to

The Cubans as you well know had a lot of help from our government that would not even give the same help to its own citizens. They brag about how they are the most successful hispanics in America, but if I received, food stamps, housing subsidies, educational grants, social security even though having worked not one day in this country, I would be expected to have made some inroads, considering that an entire society of educated Cubans were transplanted from Cuba to Miam while Blacks were still struggling for their seat at the table. Know your history before you start preaching. If there had been a Black Slave Adjustment Act similar to the Cuban Refugee Adjustment Act which allowed them to receive small business loans and would not give them to Black Americans, a policy that has been in affect longer than any affirmative action law, then tell me again about how the Cubans stick together. They don't have to the government did it for them.

This is a good sign for the upcoming November elections. I was a skeptic regarding Obama because I liked John Edwards message regarding the disenfranchisement of poor people and the left out, but the only way I would ever vote for Hillary Clinton is if she is THE candidate.

But the results are encouraging and has even my two grown sons talking about this election, something that has never happened before!

I have also listened with mixed feelings about Tavis' constant jibes at Obama, but not so much Hillary.

Over the years as I watched the State of Black America conversations with these "learned" academics, intellectuals, politicians and others representing Black America, it appeared that they were only talking to each other, did not provide enough time for adequate feedback from the audience, and many were there to incur the favor of Tavis Smiley as the "place" to have been invited.

Many times, their conversations amounted to no more than self-serving talking to myself litanies of crap that did nothing to move us on what we need to do.

Many of the intellectuals and academics can spin stories and pontificate on what's wrong with Black America, but what have they done to improve the conditions under then talk, and talk, and talk, and talk --- ad nauseum.

Its tiring, yet Tavis has a right to his opinion, and should not dare either Hillary or Barack to intend based on a threat.

It makes me wonder, if Tavis is about the Black community or is he worried about his book sales and his own perceived self-importance and anything he considers a slight to him.

Most of us are pretty upset about the tactics that HRC is using and I agree.

I have two words for you: Supreme Court.

Several of the jurist are now in their eighties and if another Republican gets the presidency, you can only imagine who John McCain would nominate. Somebody that could care less about equal pay, fairness, the criminal justice system, etc.

Now, as we try and calm down please remember this. I for one knew from the get-go what HRC was all about and my first choice was John Edwards due to his stand on helping the least of us, but when he was no longer in the race, I preferred BO as well. HRC is calculating to the point that she truly believes that she can whine and use her so-called twofer entitlement as a white woman to get over and the more she had to use it against this negro who has dared to make this a race, is now showing her true character for everyone to see.

I can only hope that someone on Obama's campaign who monitors what is being said in the blogosphere will inform him of the many people posting on this blog regarding his endless efforts to back away from his "blackness."

Yes, most intelligent people will understand that he is trying desperately not to draw attention to his blackness as some people who either consciously or subconsciously worry whether he will try to seek revenge upon white people for all the ills that have been visited against black folks. That is the way a lot of them think because they have been the entitled group for so long, it would not take much for many who are walking that fine line to turn against Obama for any indication no matter how minute it might be that he is a black man and walks comfortably in it.

For him to have to distance himself from a Pastor who is speaking truth to power worries me about what he is willing to say and do to get elected. What will he do IF elected and we have issues of fairness regarding Black concerns, will he confront them honestly or acquiesce to white folks for fear of alienating them?

For the writer of that post asking if Senator Obama approved the church's message is too much for me to comprehend. How in the hell or when in the hell, did a Black church have to get permission from a politician other than the one's who for years have looked the other way as they took handouts for the pastors, have to have their sermons approved?

When that day arrives, we will truly have sunk to the levels of the posperity preachers, the sell-out politicans, and all hope for Black folks will truly be gone.

Obama, beware. Don't put yourself in a box, or paint yourself in the proverbial corner where you have to choose between telling the truth in spite of, or selling your soul.

We are watching and waiting for your next move. This past one leaves a lot of us scratching our heads at how far you will go.

Most whites tend to overlook intentionally, the horrific treatment suffered by African Americans in this country, as if all we did was get off a boat, and start receiving all these "benefits" which we did not rightfully deserve.

As the citizens in Germany have come to grips with their racist past by implementing all types of safeguards to prevent it from happening again and passing legislation in order to TEACH their citizens via commemorations, museums, etc. about not repeating this history, White Americans cannot/will not confront the evil history of this country.

What will it take for someone to make the first step and do that in THIS country. We have all types of memorials to the Jewish experience in Germany, yet these same citizens of this country are in denial about what this country visited upon African Americans.

Just sweep it under the rug, I don't want to hear about what my white ancestors did. This selective denial of THIS country's atrocities in evident every time an African American is accused of being not patriotic enough.

Their is guilt in those phrases about not being the one who committed these sins, as they know full well that a perverse affirmative action has always been practiced to their benefit, and are now threatened that maybe if African Americans are allowed to FREELY compete, their little half-wit son John, might not be able to get that job because somebody who was actually qualified for it due to preparation and brains (hint: African-American) got it instead. This scenario has been repeated for years, and only now because an African-American has the seams began to bust and the virulent racism oozes out of these who just cannot stand that an EDUCATED, ARTICULATED, BLACK MAN could become the next president of the US. Now how's that for being threatened?

You say Clinton only responded after being asked the question, but the better point would be, why would she have an editorial conference with a paper owned by a m/billionaire, Scaife, whose mission in life has been to excoriate both Hillary and Bill Clinton whenever he had the chance.

Scaife funded numerous investigations into proving that Vince Foster was killed by the Clintons, advocated for the impeachment of Bill and sponsored the swiftboating of John Kerry.

The paper where she was asked that question is a known conservative paper that usually attacks progressive points of views and Hillary knew that when she accepted their invitation for a sit down meeting.

Now knowing that, and better yet Hillary knowing this is a conservative paper, you would think that one of the first questions she would be asked would be about the Reverend Wright so-called controversy. Hillary knew exactly what she was doing, and they gave her the perfect platform to spew what she wanted to say knowing that they would ask that question.

With recent revelations of Powell's involvement in decision-making regarding the types of torture humans would be subjected to, in addition to statements of facts from posters on this blog, contradicts many who are desperately trying to reconcile Powell's image by stating that his defense of the Weapons of Mass Destruction lie was a one-time event.

How many events will it take before it becomes apparent that Powell is just as reckless, slimey, and arrogant as his other co-workers in this dehumanizing enterprise?

Just as an example, go to Google, put in Powell's name along with Mai Lai, Panama or any other conflict he was chosen to investigate and see what comes up.

There stood Obama trying to guide the discussion back to topical issues that affect our daily lives, only being stopped to answer another asinine question.

He should quit trying to parse his words to the point that he sometimes seems unwilling or unknowing in the response he wants to convey. His tortured answers intended to try and not offend the "others" is truly disappointing. Spit it out, just say it. Tell George S. he is full of shit for asking him about someone who committed crimes 40 years ago for which he was not convicted, who now is a leader in the Chicago area regarding efforts to make others lives better. For all the Republicans who often speak of redemption when referring to the little shit in the White House shouldn't others been allowed their redemption and even with that did Obama bombed these buildings when he was 8 years old? Once again the guilt by association is going to be the stick by which the Republicans will try to defeat Obama, they have nothing else.

Obama staying true to his commitment to try and keep above the fray, could have come at Hillary even when she was trying her best to knee cap him, but he did not. He had so many opportunities to do so, but chose not, and Hillary knows this. Here she was looking at what is a decent man that she had to try her best to gorge in order to win a nomination she will not get. She has lost all class and dignity.

Where was her flag pin?

Why was Obama asked to go into Reverend Wright's head and answer the most outrageous question of the night about his patriotism. A man who served in both the Marines and Navy and was the valedictorian of his class. He left college to join the Marines in 1961 to support this country when it didn't support him, and you ask about his patriotism? The little shit!

The curtain has been pulled back, the corporations that have taken over these news operations are now standing naked before you, and now you who depend on them for information, know that you have been manipulated. What puts my panties in a bunch is the continual need for Obama to have to not just try and explain the thoughts and comments of someone else who has shown that he is more than capable of speaking for himself, but that White folks expect him in order to be considered "acceptable" to reputiate what Rev. Wright said, EVEN if what he said is true. Yes, he acted buffonish for whatever his reasons I don't know and want try to guess why.

Saying all that to say, every time Obama is forced to get on his knees and kiss the ass of white america, he diminishes his standing in the minds of many African Americans. As I have said before during many of his unscripted statements when he parses every word to try and filter out some meaning that might offend white people, the tortured looks on his face as he tries to answer some of the most offensive, insulting questions that other candidates are not asked.

How much of his soul is he willing to give up? The much scarier proposition for me is, is this the real Obama we are seeing as every day he must genuflect to white people to receive their support as they happily announce and by saying they I mean so-called progressive whites as well, who smugly state that Obama has finally denounced Rev. Wright. Is this is what we truly want as a strong black man who over the last month time and time, has allowed his backbone to bend. How far will he go, before he loses all self respect for himself and in the eyes of African Americans?

Its not us who are making the Obama campaign implode, his choices have.

With the help of his staff, made up of mostly white folks who have cautioned him on how to approach white "working class" people at the expense of black folks, which unfortunately he has done what Hillary had-- taken it for granted, is now faced with the realization of hard, cold, mean politics. There are choices you have to make, many of them very unpleasant, unfair, and sometimes painful -- if you want to win.

This realization has hit Obama squarely in the face. It's not us, we are just witness to what the corporations with all their resources including the so called mainstream media are conspiring to belittle and diminish this man. He will either be seen by white folks as the angry black man if he defends himself too much, or he hasn't manned up enough to defend himself in the eyes of black folks.

HE, HE, HE, has allowed via his handlers trying to walk that narrow line, to have himself painted into an unwinnable corner. Its not us, and certainly not me, as I look on painfully aware that no matter in which way this man turns, be it fair or not, he has to make stomach churning choices I dare say he does not want to make.

The implosion does not have to happen if Obama knows what he has to do. Stand up and call a stop to all the BS.

As I have attempted to say so many times, Obama in order to curry favor of the main stream masses must throw anyone over/under the bus to obtain his objective. That Reverend Wright did not stay silent as Obama basically called him the crazy old uncle to the pleasure of white folks was truly amazing. I sat and listened to that speech and listened to the pundits dissect it, and like you Nquest, I wondered if I was hearing the same words they had. Indeed, I was troubled that Obama summarized all the tortures, humiliations, discrimination, and injustices done to African Americans for centuries as the angry of a by-gone generation (which I am a member) who just don't understood this brave new world. It played well to his white listeners who wanted to hear that yes, Black folks were ready to move on and forget about what had happened to them in the past, since it would so uncomfortable to keep bringing up the atrocities that have yet to be atoned. Yes, Obama was not speaking to Black America but to those white folks who felt a little of the pressure removed from them as this man who was raised by white folks and lived in other countries, who never suffered many of the torments that Black folks in this country suffered and continue to suffer.

That was an appeasement speech to white folks. Period.

We are supposed to understand that as we always have when we have allowed one house negro to succeed knowing that maybe if he does, he can make our lives a little better, if we just look the other way.

Yes, Obama was surpised when Rev. Wright refused to play his role.

Now, the new meme is that Obama has cut him off completely. IMHO he did that in this original "race" speech, but to White folks he didn't go far enough until he denounced, disputed, blah, blah, blah.

Now, after he has done their bidding, will he be accepted? What would you have him do, you ask? You matter how much he grovels, it will not change the minds of people who had no intention of voting for him and only gave ammunition to the ones who were trying to find a so-called legitimate reason not to.

It truly amazes me at the number of either weak-willed or highly influenced people who are too stupid or lazy to do a little research to determine for themselves what is right or wrong. Maybe in their ignorance, they think they are safe or can still feel entitled to their non-sense as in the case of the woman talking. I have never supported Hillary because I knew that she was a calculating phony even as others around me thought she was wonderful. These handkerchief heads have painted themselves into a corner. Their actions are so typical and so expected, that their support for Hillary Clinton was/is part of how these handkerchief heads keep getting re-elected: they take the safest position possible which does not require them to THINK too much and which they can continue to scame gullible black folks, who make up most of their districts, into believing that they have their best interest at heart. So during the early days of this primary run they made their choices, confident that Barack Obama could be used to reflect the diversity of the Democratic Party, only to be discarded when he couldn't win, so that they could claim to be on the right side of this race to stay in Miss Hillary's good graces.

They are in a predictament that I truly am relishing watching: they picked Hillary because it was safe, but now that she is losing you don't hear too much from them why? They are scared. Scared to admit they are the go-along-get-along Negroes many of us think they are and will say and do anything to maintain their positions. Now what do they do? Scratch their head and roll their eyes? They are still scared to step up because by hook or crook Hillary just might end up winning the primary and Lordy, Lordy, we don't want Miss Ann... excuse me, Miss Hillary mad at us.

JC Watts is only the front man to serve up a right wing agenda intended to misdirect and distract African Americans from seeing what they are doing behind the curtain.

The right-wing conservatives have been trying to a least a decade to chip away at the black voting bloc to try and persuade some of us to vote Republican, even if it is against our own self-interest, by appealing to the selfishness of the me, me, me that is so prevalent in the Republican Party.

This is the same Republican Party that did all it could to disenfranchise Blacks at every turn by denying them any chance at opportunities, yet when they accomplish these goals IN SPITE OF

these people, they are then welcomed to join the Republican Party, hypocrites all.

If this is the kind of network this will be, count me out. Black folks are not as gullible as some seem to think, as we have had to discern who had our best interest at heart and who was the lesser of the two evils ever since we have been in this country, and I would dare say, we will be able to recognize what this is pretty quickly.

When he was passed over for some of the plume appointments to committees he desired only then did this Republican sycophant realize that his desire to be different from the other Negroes, that he was the one being played.

That is why he decided not to run again and used that old tired and sorry excuse he wanted to spend moe time with his family--puleeeze.

His own father said being a Black Republican is like the chicken liking Colonel Sanders.

Since she was such a formidable candidate nobody else had challenged her, but guess who was able to meet the deadline just in time -- her baby boy Kendrick.

Using his mothers drawers he has weaseled his way to voting on issues harmful to his own constituents. You might call him a Black Georgie Bush.

You are so correct. I thought it was just my imagination, but I have often wondered what his handlers are thinking by requiring that he submit himself to people who don't have his best interest at heart. Is it to prove that he is not afraid to address them, but when he gets in front of these people he almost goes into shuffle mode. When he is confronted with the fact that one focus group is not too keen on him he addresses them with his ideas in an attempt to get them on his side.

As I stated, I think he assumes wrongly that he has the Black vote all wrapped up and doesn't have to address our concerns, an assumption I think will come back to bite him in his ass.

If he has any thinking Black handlers they better speak up quickly and tell him he is showing his ass or he might be end for a rude awakening.

Black folks don't like Toms, especially shuffling ones.

Some of the scuttlebut been tossed around is that Hillary and Obama have spoken about how Obama can take some of the pressure off of the Black politicians who supported her. Seems that many of these CBC members who came out at the beginning of this primary process in favor of Hillary so that would be sure to be on the winning side, are now scared because many of them have challengers to their seats!

How ironic that it took Hillary Clinton's campaign or more precisely that of Barack Obama to shed light in many of these go-along-get-along negroes who were only concerned about keeping their "seats" instead of actively and agressively representing the people who voted to put them in these offices. Often selling out to corporations at the expense of these people who are now being called out.

Hillary in many ways did us a favor.

For that I would say to Hillary thank you for exposing these handkerchief heads. Thank you!

Now just imagine what would have happened if Hillary had actual won the nomination and then the presidency. All these people who have donated to her campaign and to Bill's library and foundation, along with the handkerchief heads would be standing in line for their piece of the pie. Maybe that is why Hillary was fighting so hard, because of all the IOU's made to who knows and for what.

There are no civil words to describe that weasel Harold Ford, who would sell his soul (and almost did) to be one of the players at this political table.

He is/was one of the corporatist CBC members who voted time after time against the interest of his own constituents and was ALWAYS one of the members of the DLC who bent over everytime a Republican told them to, yet here he sits as usual given praise for a speech that was judged as horrible by everybody who saw it accept--Harold Ford. Obviously, it is a reflexive act, since he has bent over so much to the Republicans that he just automatically falls into line, SOP for Harold Ford, nothing new.

My "there it is" moment during Hillary's speech came when she said she was not making any decisions tonight. For those who still support Hillary, can it be any clearer? She had the war chest of money, name recognition, and all of that, yet she lost! She is a sore loser who cannot let go, and now has the audacity to say she will THINK about being the VP if asked.

This is what she has become, an extortionist and blackmailer. Are you Hillary fans with that?

The DLC has used the CBC as an arm of its operations for years. Unfortunately, year after year, their constituents keep re-electing them not realizing that the corporations have literally bought them as if they were actually on the auction block.

There was a report out yesterday that the Black politicians who supported Hillary are begging her to talk with Obama about getting those challengers off their backs. How ironic, that they assumed by supporting Ms. Hillary against Obama they would be taken care of, yet here they sat crying for Ms. Hillary to save them to speak with the man they were trying to eliminate to save their sorry asses.

Stephanie Tubbs is scary. On MSNBC last night Chris Matthews started speaking with her before her picture was on camera and when she did appear with all her teeth and gums showing and those glasses on-- she scared me. I screamed turn it off, turn it off! I'm wrong, but that's what I did.

In the next couple of days I guess Hillary will release those house negroes so they can get on the Obama bus, hope he ain't smelling what those rats are cooking.

Most of the white women who are going through their own form of withdrawal are what we call in the south Ms. Ann.

You all know her, she might be different in the north, but the charcteristics are usually the same, the air of entitlement and priviledge, and their condescending attitude toward the lesser humans among them, with their benevolence towards others that goes only so far IF it doesn't impede on their selfish lives, in essence any leftovers after they are finished. And don't you dare disagree with them on any issue because Ms. Ann knows best, as long as you stay in your place.

This is nothing new. Some of these women actually believe by allowing us, in this case Barack Obama to compete, they are enlightened, BUT, once the game is at an end we are suppose to lose and let them have their perceived and expected and most times unearned rewards. When that doesn't happen, the results are what you are seeing from these women: anger, disbelief that those people (us) didn't know or stay in our place. How dare we.

Nothing new, but maybe new to some of you who have never experienced it in such outward and upfront displays. Thus, the woman's outburst the other day when she could not understand how Black folks were voting for Barack Obama because we did not understand what we were doing and as a result should not be allowed to vote.

Al Sharpton is filling a void that other spotlight seeking Black folks have failed to do: use it for his own engrandizement, while to a smaller degree highlighting the concerns of the Black community. In other words, he is killing two birds with one stone: a little bit for us, a lot for him.

If some of us could get over this need for a "spokesperson" and instead invest in our own ability to speak truth to power, then we wouldn't need the Al Sharptons or Jesse Jacksons. Until that day comes, these people will continue to profit from our need to have a savior.

As far as Barack Obama talking about absentee fathers; he was correct, but he was also playing the politician talking to white folks who were nodding their heads in agreement. Once again, he USED the Black community to score political points. During his speech which I have not seen the full transcript, did he also praise those Black fathers who get up every day and take care of their families?

Why is it every time he comes before a predominantly Black audience, he is often scolding, preachy and arrogant, yet when was the last time he spoke to white folks about their need to hold onto to their whiteness when they don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out? When?

Now when will he make that speech about white folks who are holding onto their perceived entitlement of whiteness because they don't have an education, skills, jobs, etc... but have the audacity to talk about the inadequacies of other folks (Black) while ignoring their own high rates of the same societal ills.

I am going to wait for that speech, but I won't be holding my breath. Obama has determined that he has the Black vote and doesn't have to pander to us, so in his own way, we will be the bogeyman for the entitlement-prone white man who lives his life thinking that his superiority trumps all, and Barack Obama is playing their game, don't forget he is half white and has heard it all before. If he demonizes Black folks he won't be called on it because he is Black so he can give out those dog whistles that Black folks can hear but are choosing to ignore.

Congratulations on your whiteness, as you tell us how he was not negative.

I suggest you go to the Chicago Tribune or any other paper that carried the story of Obama's speech and read the post from many of your fellow white folks who were impressed by how Obama spoke truth to power to the Black men in our community who needed to hear the truth. How he was impressive, forthright, truthful, said what needed to be said, all the while not plucking that plank out of their eyes.

I sat amazed at the arrogance and condescending attitudes of SOME people when referring to others they deem as less (inferior) to them (superior) when referring to responsibility.

You have read most of the posts to that blog, yet have you not comprehended the responses from a Black perspective?

I can't go there with you because evidently you just don't get it and no matter how much many continue to try and communicate that to you, you just don't understand. That is why there will always be two Americas, one black and one white, and why Obama actually did choose to pander to get votes from people who appreciate him confirming that misconceived opinions about Black folks, but who still will not vote for him.

As BPM said, lets see him give "responsibilty" speeches in the BPM mentioned and see how he does with that!

Take a valium and calm down. By your moniker alone you identify yourself as from the Caribbean in apparently and obviously your perception of the African-American experience in THIS country is probably seen in a different prism from mine.

Saying that I will say this. I thought about whether to respond to your vile, and dare say, overly-sensitive response to a valid criticism of Barack Obama. He is not God. He is man who has and will continue to make mental mistakes when addressing not only this issue which was influenced by his upbringing by white parents which I dare say skewed even if unconsciously his views regarding black men and what he heard growing up.

The attitudes of many in the Carribbean regarding African Americans in this country is another topic that should be explored, which i will not go into here, but suffice it to say, I in my humble attempts to remain relevant, offering MY opinion of this speech and any other actions taken by Barack Obama which my affect my ability to live in this country will not stop, even with the vitrolic, unnecessary name-calling. I am not a liar because I offer a difference of opinion. He did state Black men and did reference some as boys. Now where does that come from.

On a day when we should be cherishing the outstanding contributions of fathers to their families, this was not the place or time.

To say that if someone was talking about you, it doesn't apply. That's a tired old trick used by people who want to make a comment about an entire group which includes you, and then slyly say they were not referring to you. They wait for your reaction to see if you identify as part of that group which was offended or insulted. If your response is to say they were not talking about me then they know that you can be used as a sounding board for every type of vicious comment about that group as long as they add the tag line ... we are not talking about you. You feel accepted and now in their eyes are no longer a threat to whatever they possess: power, authority, etc.

Now had you called them on their attempts to villify an entire group, you would then be labeled, angry, outspoken, radical, militant, pick one. I am sure that most posters to this blog at one time or another been called one of those names for standing up and being included in the maligned group.

So I would be very careful about being proud or special when some of these people say to you, "Oh I wasn't talking about you."

What did you expect, competence, humility, forthrightness, clarity, judiciousness?

Sadly, the NAACP is no longer an effective group that truly cares about the concerns of everyday Black folks, just the ones who preen and prance as part of the accepted group of African Americans that I would not want to be a part. These folks in the rarified air in which they live don't have an inkling as to the lives of the people who are suffering as they hold conventions in swanky overpriced hotels, conferences where the talk to each other, slapping themselves on the back in self-congratulatory kudos for the wonderful things they are doing. Where, what, how has the NAACP been effective anywhere? Someone else starts a movement to change something in the community and once the press shows up here comes the late and wrong NAACP to cash in and get their share of the glory. Sad but predictable. No wonder they have continually lost members. I would be surprised if they had 50,000 nationwide.

The above paragraph in the post pretty much sums it up for me. There you have it. She is not one of them. No matter how accomplished she is still an accomplished BLACK woman. This political race is exposed a lot of the ism's that had been forced behind closed doors, including the large schism between Black and White women that has existed forever. That this had opened your eyes and minds says a lot about what has not been said openly and earnestly. As JJP stated, Black women have always been feminist because we HAD to be, there was no choice. To equate feminism with the daily grind that is/was the lives of Black folks is not being honest when white women could always get special privileges not accorded to Black folks.

Thanks again for your post, unfortunately many of your sisters because of willful denial cannot/will not accept that there continues to be a double standard when it comes to Black women. When white women truly want to be inclusive of us in the struggle for equal rights fully will Black women choose to participate, after they realize that we are not to be patted on the head used when convenient and then tossed aside when they get what they want.

Feminism should be a two-way street, which at this point it is not, and I for one choose not to part of it.

It didn't take long for that social phenomenon we all know, the scared threatened little white boy came out of hiding to throw his rocks at Black women.

A woman he can't control, intimidate, or scare. One he sees on a daily basis who could whup his ass with one hand tied behind her back.

The same scared little white man who tries daily to scare white women about the evils of Black men, and will lock a Black man up for the slightest infraction. They haven't figured out how to lock up a lot of Black women yet, and have not been able to shake our defense of Black men, so they hide and throw their rocks.

These pathetic poor excuses for manhood.

Thanks for your post. I agree with your comments both about Obama's positions of these two critical issues that disapportionately affect Black folks, and also the unwillingness of many Black folks to want to discuss these issues and why Obama is in support of them.

I was totally shocked when he said he agreed with overturning the ban on guns in Washington, DC and as for the death penalty -- WOW. Yes, it is an abomination to rape a child, but death? How many black folks have and are on death row for crimes that did not commit, or were put to death proclaiming their innocence for crimes they did not commit.

Tavis was correct and that many in our community have not fully vetted Obama on many of his positions and how they will affect THIS community. I know that he is a politician trying to get elected, but if he truly believes many of the things he is saying to get votes, regrettably, we will continue to be treated by the Democrats as we always have; a inconvenience to be used during election time, only to be discarded when no longer needed. Let's see how long our expiration date is if Obama is elected.

As you stated is this the change we can believe in, because I can't.
