There's always more to the story than what you've suggested here.
I learned something from that letter. I learned how dangerous it once was for blacks during those dates when the White Sox played home games. Till reading the letter I did not know the risk black residents faced when white fans swarmed through the neighborhood going to and from games.
It never occurred to me that those white fans had the audacity to go to the South Side to commit crimes against the black residents living near the ballpark. It's as though the whites used baseball games as an excuse to exercise their brutal racist urges. Horrible.
