It's the value in your submission that can generate the right traffic. Sometimes a Digg can show up on Google's first page for the right keywords you target, driving traffic to your submission and ultimately to your site.

It also depends on the Mutual Friends you have created. There are many pockets of people who use Digg for the right reasons, once you connect with them, they become loyal followers and will begin to share your stuff through other methods as well, furthering the branding process.

One other key point is a person's profile. I can't tell you how many hits I get to the links in my profile, many who turn into the right prospect for my business.

I agree with several of your points, but for me, the Front Page is not the intent, it's finding those folks who use Digg for things other than that, people looking to build a true connection, sharing and responding to content that provides value.

I appreciate your post, there is a lot of merit in your comments.

Mike Witt

Re: Why you can’t “Win” at Twitter

Very nice post on Twitter. It is a little bit odd at first understanding where the value might come from, especially if you are an internet marketer.

I agree that is it not in the number of followers, it's the connection made with people of like interest. You can provide a little more of the human side and a little marketing in between, and connections can be made that reap benefits for years to come.

Some of the best customers, viewers, visitors and friends can come from Twitter, all you have to do is say hello to someone and take it from there.

Thanks,
Mike
@mikewitt

Re: Avatars in Social Media: Value or Risk?

Excellent post and topic. Some might depend on a person's overall marketing plan and strategy, but in my opinion branding is key and to do that people need to know who you are. A real picture is a great way to connect with your readers and followers, showing them that there is a real person behind the words.

There may be a little risk, but so far, in my experience, it's mostly email spam, although I did see a few footprints in the snow outside my house this morning that I didn't recognize, oops, those were mine :-)

Great post, hopefully people can see the value in showing who they are and providing a better connection with their customers.

Mike Witt
www.WorkFromHomeSmart.com

Re: Snip URL is Better Than Tiny URL… By Far

Hi Diana,

Excellent post. I found SnipURL a few months back and used it mainly for email marketing to start out with, but there are many other uses when it comes to tracking your messages.

There are many other services like SnipURL that cost, so Free is an added benefit, but the overall goal is to see if your readers, visitors and Opt-In subscribers are connecting and using the links you provide them.

If the result is not happening, then maybe a tweak of a link or different placement, or change in message will grab their attention and see value in what you provide them.

Thank you for the reference at the end of your article to a Hub Page I wrote on using SnipURL, I appreciate that.

Keep up the great content,

Mike Witt
www.WorkFromHomeSmart.com

Mike Witt’s last blog post..Shaping our Children’s Lives-3 Business Philosophies that Instill Leadership in our Kids
