as someone said on twitter the other day: "the only time i want to hear "that's just the way it is is when we're talking about the laws of physics"
sadly twitter search can't find it.

you cannot change the laws of physics, captain

That is sad. But what's happy is that twitter is investing heavily in this area

in Me, Amazon, Scoble (Scripting News) on Scripting News
how would you know who on your facebook network had the best taste in sushi? like with music taste- lots of people i would follow to the ends of the earth on other things listen to music that would scare me away again just as fast. not insurmountable of course- a mix of Amazon augmented intelligence with the ability to tag people on Facebook - good taste in beer, say.... should do the trick.

actually you need to look into the Azure specifics. notably the SQL Data Services, which really are not SQL at all! Its an abstraction hiding the "relational" stuff, providing a data index. Azure is very much focused on scale out- though as you point out it also offers service bus in the sky function.

Very interesting lunch. thanks for sharing information with us. It was very cool to catch up with Andy Hood, too. I have some evil plans in that regard.

Evil you say? Sounds great :o) Monday was good fun and I'd be happy to do it again. I've also added @monkchips so no doubt the referrals from here will now be coming thick and fast ;o) Cheers.

in Do Social Networks Follow the Traditional Business Cycle on Social Times
Growth doesn't come to a complete stop once we're past the initial spike. Take even an old line business such as IBM - which is as mature as they get... its still growing. I think you may be confusing growth with subscriber numbers. Or maybe I am.
"suggesting that a community will grow indefinitely is absolutely ridiculous" - ergo Wall Street and entire tech industry is absolutely ridiculous.

in Publish Your Blog to Twitter on Oracle AppsLab
just read the last two sections. details of next releases of SAP Collaboration Server, and a writeup of a "packaged M&A scenario" which looks at enterprise data, and imports from orkut. the blog itself has some nice touches of humour if i do say so myself, but not enough to draw you in/keep you interested evidently.

in Framing the DRM Debate on The Technology Liberation Front
I frame DRM as digital lard. it clogs up the arteries of high value digital lives. why would you eat lard by choice, and become far less healthy in the process. DRM = digital lard

in Killer demo? Listen to the keyboards on Scobleizer
you need to watch out for peoples head nods too - its a sure fire sign. i love it when you even hear them when talking to clients on the phone. head nods and hammering on keys - those are the signs.

in Drinking the Adobe coffee on Scobleizer
hey robert- we need to talk about corporate developers. you're possibly missing some context about java people using flex to extend apps like SAP. Check out this case study - http://redmonk.com/jgovernor/2006/12/01/case-st...
there is a lot of this going on. Flex is a great SAP extension platform.
disclaimers: adobe is a client
SAP is in the pipeline.
Microsoft is client in some areas.

in Bill Marriott on importance of education on Scobleizer
I think even Dennis Howlett was touched - and you know what a cynical old git he is. i really like the marriott blog - and its hotels, funnily enough. they were the first major chain to make broadband as easy as taking a cable out of the closet and plugging into STSN box. but the blog has a really excellent tone. i think shel will like this story too.

in Of course data security is (NOT) important in the US on Newest Industry
actually its funny - i envy some US laws, notably around notification. any company that wants to trade in California needs to be careful about customer data, because they have to let people know. a lot of this leakage goes on - often because of what i call information bulimia- they hoover up so much info its bound to puke out sometime.

in Software Patent of the Week: A Poster Child for KSR on The Technology Liberation Front
The broader context is exactly what you fail to offer.
IBM explicitly created the PC clone industry, with a licensing-based approach, so the revisionism is a bit jarring here. I am no fan of patent abuse (or software patents generally) but given IBM already saw an industry of clones (called plug compatible mainframes)- Amdahl, HDS, Comparex and so on - as forced by the consent decree, this blog entry just seems to be to lacking in context to take seriously.
IBM is a very interesting case study in terms of its approaches to IP, patent law and so on. Why not engage with the history to make more compelling analysis?

in Big Company PR: turning the heat up on the PR kettle on Scobleizer
surely this is just Google business as usual? their PR approach generally relies somewhat on secrecy - much like Apple. both companies have great external cheerleaders to pick up the news once its run. they create scarcity of information, which creates demand, and then ride that buzz into revenues. its a very different model from Microsoft or IBM say.
