As for the music business, being disillusioned seems an inevitable, and healthy, step in the process. The challenge is to remain an idealist, a dreamer, a creator, in spite of the "star-making machinery behind the popular song".

All this blogging looks like such fun, I'm going to try my hand at the medium. I can't see that I'll have time to post regularly, but, now seems a good time to start: http://borneveryminute.blogspot.com/

cheers!

Re: My letter to CD Baby today

Thank you Rachel for raising concerns shared by many artists on CD Baby.

I've just posted the following to the "Accounting" thread @ http://www.cdbaby.org/stories/09/07/23/5144597....

"I haven't seen a sale since this started and thats odd." - Richy Kicklighter

"I have regularly made $500 a month or more from CD Baby and so far I have zero sales for July." - Rachel Harrington

"I'm assuming that digital sales
collection/reporting has been on hold the last
couple weeks and will get caught up... I've had
sales reported every week this year, but July 11
is the last thing that shows any sales with the
new accounting system." - Eric Herman

"Well no sales for me in two weeks at cd baby-just before the change over sales were thriving" - Mark Cloutier

Maybe this is all coincidental, but we're seeing the same pattern. Historically our digital sales are remarkably consistent.

Our account shows Digital Distribution sales for last week (July 20 payout date) of $0.00. I'm waiting to see what accounting shows tomorrow (July 27) - as maybe the sales data was delayed by all the tech glitches. If, however, our digital sales are nominal or zero again, then something seems wrong with the accounting.

Maybe for other folks, it's already evident. I expect to be able to tell this payment week if there need for greater alarm.

I'd like to see all the useful features returned, and the many glitches fixed. And, of course, those problems that hamper or prevent the public from purchasing CDs or downloads from the CD Baby site will negatively impact on artists' revenues.

But, the digital distribution sales - coming from iTunes, Amazon, et al - if those numbers are reduced greatly, it'd suggest there's a breakdown in these revenues reaching artist accounts (and that couldn't be explained by CD Baby public site tech glitches).

Here's hoping that's not happening - or we're looking at an even bigger problem.

p.s. to be clear, I'm not suggesting that it'd be intentional if monies for sales are not making it to artist accounts - rather that such a problematic state could be yet another function of the tech problems. It could be that the iTunes, Amazon etc. payments are getting lost in the tech void. It could also be coincidental that the revenues of several artists, in very different genres, could suddenly disappear all at the same time - but, the odds seem to be on the side of there being some connection to the new accounting pages.

It'd be great for artists to keep in touch, and if this pattern of lost sales appears more than coincidence, then, it's something to act upon.

cheers, Adrian

Re: My letter to CD Baby today

Hi all ~

What's the buzz?

One month+ since the relaunch, have you found satisfaction, or any solutions?

best, Ad

Re: Thread

Fascinating feature on inspiring individuals and their company. That seems consistent with the failures of the new search set-up. Digital Distribution partner sales seem much disrupted, and it's not clear yet if this is a result of delayed, incomplete, or absent reports/payments.

Whatever be the case, it's a sad state of affairs. What are you all experiencing?

best', Adrian
