in Paulson is handing out free money like candy to a baby on Credit Writedowns
And I wonder what Bush will do in terms of pardons?
Regardless of the politics, Paulson must be stopped. But is there anyone big enough to stop him?
He certainly has guaranteed himself a nice cozy chairmanship (like Ruben) or lucrative consulting contracts/speaking fees like Greenspan.
Hey, maybe they'll even announce a big book deal with a 7 figure advance fee payment!

I used to play this game all the time. I love how people can come up with so many songs by just using the composer. :D

Look at all that water you waste by leaving the faucet on. What you save on cups you will spend on your water bill.

Best of luck! I am going to try slow jogging this year so I can finally chase the kids without puffing. I'll be with you in spirit...

Oh, and the suing for damages thing is not a "mindset" so much as an unavoidable side-effect of having a crap health system. Say you're playing on the flying fox in the US, not NZ, and your kiddo flies off the flying fox headfirst and is badly injured - you're responsible for all medical expenses, care, equipment, etc, for the rest of his life. Better hope you've got a job with decent health insurance, and then better hope you never lose that job, or run up against spending limits on the insurance... fancy losing your house and savings so your child can get the necessary care? Happens all the time over here.
That said, it does become a mindset after a while. I narrowly missed a disaster the other day, caused by the spectacularly dangerous failure of a consumer product, and my first thought (after "thank god I'm alive") was "OK, so who could I have sued, and for how much, both to punish them for this appalling oversight, and to pay for my wheelchair?"

Weird... there are seesaws in most of the (American) playgrounds we go to, and while some of the newer playgrounds are definitely on the boring, overly safe side, you can still find some good arm-breaking ones here and there (hint: play on the poorer side of town). A recent playground tour of NZ suggests the same range of options.
There's also some truly awesome playground design happening in the US, including accessible playgrounds that welcome kids with mobility problems, and nature-based play spaces, like these: http://www.planetearthplayscapes.com/
Personally, I live in hope that we can persuade the very cool Bob Leathers to come and help us build a playground in our neighbourhood one day: http://www.leathersassociates.com/ The one they built in Santa Barbara is truly amazing, and has a built-in marble run, among other things. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mister_goleta/1534...
And ooh, look, he's built one in NZ too! Wish I'd known so we could have made a detour to check it out! http://www.wairarapa.co.nz/playground

Nice car... and very clever of you to take a picture of it next to a dumpster, for sharp and instructive contrast: "This is not rubbish. That, on the other hand, is."

Ah...a well-known phenomenon in my line of work. You may call it coder's block, grasshopper.
In fact, scientists have determined that it is your bottom telling your brain that it needs some oxygen and that if you don't get up and take a walk soon you might lose the use of your legs permanently. See, that's why your coding (or writing) turns to arse. Bottombrain shortcircuit.
Mmm, but you're right... when you're flying along - it's so good! Gorgeous description of it :-) Sounds like Teletubbie-land.

Well, you did get the haircut already, so maybe it is time for the real job.
But maybe the "real job" wouldn't look exactly like code-monkeying. Maybe it would be more sort of human-code-monkeying. Problem-sorting. Debugging of the "let me help" variety. Y'know? Maybe all that computer and engineer training gave you the intellectual muscle to hop sideways into Something Completely Different?
Just a random thought...
