A faux WalMart when we already have plenty of real WalMart. I can order on WalMart online and pick up at my Local store, no shipping. Don't like it instant return while I am there.

As a former eBay user, buyer and seller both, eBay needs to get a grip. eBay HAD a marketplace and it was the place where you could find anything legal. Good luck with finding anything now.

Now I shop using Google to find what I want, no more browsing and seeing neat stuff on eBay. A lot of the fun stuff has gone to Bonanzle.

Full disclosure ex-eBay now selling on Bonanzle and my own website. Leaving it to market forces? I own a 92 Saturn, & would like to replace it with another, I get 35MPG, nothing that has been made in years is comparable in size, comfort and gas mileage. Would have bought the delightfully funky HHR but 18 - 22 MPG give me a break! For that kind of consumption I could be driving a 1/2 ton dodge diesel truck.

Every year since 1999 I wrote to Saturn asking for better options than their current line, might as well not bother. It is a tool. Many Bonanzle sellers also have a presence on eBay and or Amazon, or have their own website, I do, they are not mutually exclusive propositions. Buy it take it to a gemologist if you don't like it, return it with certification tag intact for full refund plus cost of return postage express & insured. Return it without certification tags you pay for it to be re-certified about $50 I believe and this is all stated in the listing.

Last August they were restricted from listing for 30 days. They made one sale in July, buyer "thought the stone would be bigger", and gave them a 3 in the item as described category. The stone was described by measurement and carat weight in the listing. Total time elapsed from payment to refund was 7 days.

Re: Attention eBay Shoppers! Small traders who are out of business, losing their homes, struggling, many of whom will vote to 'Neg Meg in 2010'.

Meg's hand picked successor, who as President of eBay USA had a lot to do with the decline in ebay from 2006 - 2008 and everything to do with its current inexorable swirl down the drain, is an outstanding example of her unfitness by reason of poor management choices and decisions.

Yes charming Meg was able to hold it together until she was able to step off the sinking ship with dry shoes, but a 70% turnover in upper management in 13 months is not an indication of confidence in the future.

eBay will indeed be studied by Business Schools. It has built a strong sense of community and communication is encouraged and facilitated with the individual real time booth chat feature.

As Auntie May would say, 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating' Bonanzle must be pretty good pudding judging by growth in traffic, listings and sales in the almost nine months it has been out of beta.

I agree with 'Just a thought' above.

Instant is not always best unless you want brand new and disposable, flash in the pan and on to the next trend.

Re: Editorial: Bonanzle has a long way to go to become the eBay killer

This I did not understand in your 'review' at all, perhaps you could clarify?

"Every seller gets a store (sorry, a “booth”) right from the start with Bonanzle power (Markdown Manager copycat)"

When I make a comparative market analysis I find it helps to compare, for example, apples to apples. Don't do eBay boards they are a time waster and get nasty. Used to do Answer Center Stores Board several years ago until they got nasty and you needed a posting ID.

I sell warm fuzzy hopelessly romantic Victorian repro cards, prints, bible mottos etc. My customer demographic is warm fuzzy hopelessly romantic women and the men who adore them and don't mind shelling out $10 for an extra ordinary card that will delight the women they love.

The personal touch is what leads to multiple item purchases and return customers. The personal touch, remembering names, grandkids, where they live and what he bought for her last year (I have an excellent database) is what transitioned my repeat buyers to my website when I wanted off eBay. That is money in my pocket at very little cost in my time.

When I was on eBay it was very easy for me to template a personal sounding email at all stages of the sale. It paid off, over and over.

If I am on site during a Bonanza which is the whole point of the exercise, I can point a potential buyer at an item after very few questions. By spending an hour online being nice to a bunch of people I can build a reservoir of goodwill and when the occasion arises that something out of the ordinary is called for, they come to me.

An example, a refugee from Ike whom I met in my booth during my first Bonanza came back a month later & bought a spectacular card for the friends who gave them shelter, plus three other cards. Good sale, since she was pleased with her purchases she may tell friends and so it grows.

Re: Lulu Pricing Structure to change in late October and October Bulk Discount Specials

Looking at my grocery cart and what it costs me to run my car to get to the grocery store there is no doubt the cost of living is going up.

As a consumer I don't mind paying for value received. Your statement is based on common sense and indeed in theory Diamond PowerSeller status should be attainable by anyone.

In fact, and I received this information in an off the record phone conversation so I can not ethically point you to the horses mouth source; Diamond PowerSellers are by invitation. Don't call us we'll call you.

It is also fact per rksmythe, that eBay has always refused to negotiate with existing volume sellers. This of course makes perfect business sense on their part. Why should eBay negotiate a decrease in revenue with a business they already have on the hook?

I have had a question in with Richard Brewer-Hay for months about Diamond qualification, repeated several times. RBH is VERY good about answering when he can. The fact that I have not received an answer is telling. eBay has always revealed more by what they do not say than in the words they use to say something. Never assume from eBay's announcements.

Good post, thank you, get well soon!

Re: My secret confession: I like Buy.com on eBay (and hate that letter)

You are absolutely correct that the letter is childish and poorly written. It is whiny. Although I AM a boycotter I am not a ranter. I don't do petitions (begging and whining). I don't do lemming like mass stampedes to a specific voted on venue. My business is not a democracy and one of the reasons I am off eBay is that I am 'the decider' in my business.

Would you, as a very large seller earning the majority of your income on eBay, go on record to state that you had asked for Diamond and been refused?

Wouldn't that make you look unprofessional and whiny too?

Re: Bob Young takes Lulu back to basics

I think that is a fascinating question. I adore books, it is an inherited trait and I have thousands. For real.

Printed books are readable 20 years or a hundred years later. No doubt e-books are tempting but look at the VHS format to see where I am going. Will it be possible to read a CD ten years down the road? I just tossed a bunch of beloved cassette tapes.

Every time Microsoft comes up with a new OS I am forced to buy (eventually) a new printer, scanner etc. I am completely at the mercy of whichever manufacturer made my peripherals as to whether they are going to upgrade the drivers to the very latest OS. Best and simplest scanner I ever had was not upgraded from Windows 98. Nothing wrong with it, I just can't use it.

So for me, yes, the printed word, and the eternal dusting which never gets finished because I get sidetracked into rereading an old friend.

Re: Editorial: But eBay!
